Really interesting....CF diamondz, AZ Power, CA, PAC Lions...all in the top ten at Worlds last April. But can any west coast based team win that darn Worlds event over and over again like those pesky southern teams??

2 Paid Bids and 4 At Large Bids Of the 5 National Champions in these divisions, the 2 highest scores will receive the Paid bids and the other 3 champions will receive at large bids. The remaining at large bid will be givein to the highest score without a bid.
Junior 5 and Junior Coed 5
1 At Large Bid The National Champion with the highest score will receive the At Large Bid.
Open 5, Open Coed 5, Open 6 and Open Coed 6
3 At Large Bids The 3 highest scores of the 4 National champions will receive the At Large Bids.
A couple of interesting things to mull over for this competiiton -
1. There are currently no Open teams on the schedule. So if there are no bids to give out, where do the other 3 At Large bids go?
2. There are two divisions (Large Limited Coed and Large Unlimited Coed) that have only one competitor. Are those two teams given bids automatically since they will be come National Champions as there are no teams in their division? Not to say that none of them will deserve it, but what if one of those teams absolutely tanks. Should they get a bid over a team in Small Senior that placed 3rd in what should be a tight division?

Good Questions, i would like to know the answers to these also.
I know that happen last year also where there werent many int'l open teams so the ones automatically got bids! But the teams that did get bids were good so i dont think anyone even noticed.
If they are going to do that with large limited and unlimited coed i think they should combine this division and give one of them a bid then if the other scores high enough they should get a bid also.
Also it that from last year or this year because they did change the way the bids work this year so that may no longer come into play now that int'l open and int'l junior teams can get paid bids

This is for this season. I can't imagine that nothing would change as there are currently no teams enrolled for Open. Personally I would like to see those bids go to teams that deserve them, not just automatic winners. I believe that a bid should be awarded to a division winner if and only if there are at least 3 teams in that division. From there, the top scores.
But what if a team in their sole division has the highest score of the comp? Are you saying they dont deserve the bid? Those teams dont have any other control over who registers for each comp.

I think you are misreading my comment. Let me try to clarify. I think bids should be given out to division winners if and only if there are 3 or more teams in the division. From there, bids should be awarded to the high scores. So if a team is in a division by themselves, and they get a higher score than a team in a division with more than 3, then they would be awarded a bid as well.
In the case of American Championships, California Large Coed is in a division by themselves. Let's say that in the unlikely case they tank both days but the 3rd place team in Small Senior (let's say for argument's sake its CA as well) nails both days as well. CA coed scores an average of 82 and CA Small Senior averages 89. Should CA coed get the bid instead of their Small Senior team simply because no one else was registered in that division? I know that it wasn't their fault no one was registered in their division, but it's also not CA Small Senior's fault that a lot registered in theirs.
Basically my argument comes down to this, in a competition where there are 26 teams vying for a bid and only 10 bids being passed out, no team should be handed a bid without actually having to compete for it.
I'm curious to see if American Championships will change the way they will pass out their bids.
I agree with you, no team should get a bid just for being the only one in their division. They call it "earning or winning a bid" for a reason. If other teams in other divisions have higher scores they should "earn" the bid.
How do you judge a Large Coed team against a small Senior team..? Skills are a lot different.
And how do you allow a team to win a bid simply by signing up for a competition? What's to stop any one of those small senior teams from switching to Open 5 and winning a bid simply because no one else is in that division?
Is it hard to judge Large Coed against Small Senior? Yes. Impossible? No.
Let's be realistic here though, CA was second in the World last year in the Large Coed division. I have no doubt that they will earn a bid. But what's to stop them from going out on the floor, hitting a Hi V on 1, then holding it for the remaining 44 8cs, winning their division, and taking home a bid? I'm not saying it will happen, but something like that could.

My Picks
This comp is going to be so intense. All contenders are strong. We all know CA & CF will most definitely get paid bids. They are powerhouse teams. Who do you all think the underdogs are this year? Why?
~Victory is always clean, but doesn't step "outside" of the box when it comes to difficulty, and they are very conservative. (not a bad thing though)
~Cheerz Odyssey has always been strong as well. They're clean, and have fun choreography, I wouldn't count them out.
It'll be interesting to see how the Senior Small 5 plays out this year. Victory, Magic, Fierce, OC and Pride Athletics all did well at various competitions last year without one of those teams firmly establishing themselves above the others, maybe with the exception that Fierce had a pretty bad year, but I've heard they're stronger this year - so the competition between these teams should be fun to watch. Cheerforce, AZ Power Extreme and CA were all strong teams last year and expect that to probably be the case this year as well. I wish I was going to this competition to see this division.

I think pride athletics definitely established themself above the other last year. They did place 9th at worlds. I was very impressed with them last season

That's true - they did improve by the end of the season. Victory beat them once or twice earlier in the year, but by Worlds Pride seemed like a different team altogether
