if someone wants to do an individual, maybe they are in the wrong sport.....cheer is a team sport, go over to gymnastics, or even tramp and tumble if you want to solo
If someone wants to do an individual, great for them as long as I don't have to watch or have my comp day extended by it. Daughter has done them and wanted to do them again because she loves cheer, I but let her do a second team instead which I think is a better pay off for her time and my money. She loved it, but it meant more time out of school, sometimes an additional night at a hotel and honestly, it was kinda lonely being the only 2 or 3 from your team there. To me, cheer is a team sport.
I never understood why the coaches want to do it. It seemed to me to be a lot of work on a weekend where they are already working pretty hard. Coaches, what do you get out of it (besides money ).
And on the stunt groups (I'll probably be killed here), but each kid has to pay an entry fee for the comp, right? What do the bases get out of it? I understand the flyer getting to do their stuff and being proud, but the bases are having to pay all the money too...do they feel like they get any glory. so to speak. My daughter is a base and loves basing as compared to flying, but it is as part of a team putting on a show...she also wants to tumble, dance etc. Just curious. Try not to harm me. It's just we have a little flyer doing an individual at our gym whose mom is running the other kids/moms in their stunt group ragged with practices etc, and I kinda wondered why they bought into the whole deal.
You're joking, right? You just equated bases to grunts with no skill. Without talented bases, you're daughter would be on the ground.
Please do one of two things: 1) stop trying to start stuff or 2) slow it down a little when you read.
The poster stated their daughter is a base. I think the question was a valid one. Everyone knows that it's the flyer that gets a majority of the accolades (as well as the blame). So they just were wondering if the bases that participate in stunt group "individuals" feel the same as flyers. I would guess that bases do feel the excitement. After all, as the poster I quoted pointed out nearly all in the audience know that without the skills the bases have the flyers wouldn't be able to pull off their triple tuck, twice pulled scorpion basket toss...yeah, I'm not too knowledgable on stunting names. ;) So the bases know they are accomplishing something just as great as the flyers, but my daughter never competed in these, so I could be waaay off base.

maybe u should go over to gymnastics, or jenny craig, weight watchers, something other than worrying about some little kids and what their doing
Whoa, wasn't trying to start drama. I was just confused as to why she thought bases (in and of themselves) wouldn't get any "glory" unless they were tumbling or dancing, and that a stunt group was all about the flyers. Yes they are the focal point, but that doesn't mean bases wouldn't feel great about executing a great stunt routine. You don't always have to be the center of attention to get a great sense of accomplishment. It just seemed like she was undermining the importance of that element to the team.

I was that poster that asked the question and you answered it....yes that they do get that "great sense of accomplishment". I wanted to hear from bases and how they felt about it. I just wondered if that feeling was enough to pay $50 to $75 to compete individually a piece in a stunt group. If you went to 5 comps and paid for stunt group practices and choreography, it would be in the $500-$800 range, so is the feeling of going out there worth spending that amount of money to be in an individiual stunt group? I only know about the team aspect of stunting...that it is part of a great show. I was really asking in terms of an individual stunt group. I come in peace!

My daughter has been part of a stunt group for the past two season. She loved it. She is a backspot. Was it worth it... Yes if it's something you reall enjoy. Her group only performed 3 out of the 7 competitions we attended, which helped keep the costs down. They received a team award and each received trophys. She is taking a break from it this year, but plans on doing it again next year. I hate to admit I really don't enjoy watching the individuals that much either.
