But couldn't u believe the talent if they were combined??? That's the problem. That's why these gyms don't get that far in bigger competitions.... they just can't compete. Not to say they aren't great gyms with styles of their own, but if the goal is to be recognized world wide, they better open up to other ideas. I think all three owners are great people. I just wish they could see the potentialsmile

Exactly my point! This example could be used almost anywhere, especially in California. All these random gyms complain when they get beat, then they better get with the program and either get more kids or merge with another gym.

It's a business. It's about so much more than winning trophies. The bottom line, none of the three see a merger as a profitable business venture.

Not posting with any ill intent whatsoever here, but I was thinking about this thread. My neighbor makes pretty good money and so do I. We could buy a house together and have a much nicer house, but my American dream is to have my own house even if combining with others could cause a greater result. I KNOW, not apples to apples, but that is what I thought.

Stepping away from the thread now.

Not a very smart business plan. Like it or not ,combining resources is better if its done correctly. Bottom line is people have EGOS and want to do it their way. Cheer gym owners have been doing it that way for years and you see very few make it to 5 years, let alone 10 years.

LOL keep your small house, I rather make more money in the long run and get a bigger house. :

The house post was mine....and to you I reply (with goodwill) biggrinbiggrin-----I hope you get that bigger house!!!!!

Ok just something that has been on my mind lately.  With everyone complaining about the economy do you think opening a new cheer gym is a smart move right now?  Also do you think that there are already too many in certain areas?  There are just so many kids and too many gyms fighting to get new athletes into their programs.  Is there really enough kids to go around?

LOL I posted this comment and I'm just curious why it was edited by the Monitor on 10/21/08. Bad spelling? Anyway after hearing there where two new gyms opening up in the Pleasanton/San Ramon area it made me wonder if this was such a smart business move. From what I understand enrollment is a little down from last year at a lot of gyms, and adding two additional programs in this area I was just curious if this was such a good idea.  In the long run everyone will be competing for the same pool of kids.  I know it's a business and bottom line you have to be able to have enough atheletes to survive.  I don't think most gyms can make a go of it without having at least around 60 kids after the first year.  Gyms do have to pay the rent and thier staff.  I don't think the majority of the gym owners are getting rich running a cheer gym.

Well our gym is doing better than it has for the past three years.  We almost added 30% new athletes and still have kids coming into our gym wanting to be placed.  We have actually had to tell kids, our new placements are in April 09.  No one rides for free, we have about 5 kids that we hire to help with their cheer expense.

Same for my gym. We have grown this year and continue to have athletes come in with intrest in our program. I agree there are alot of gyms and not enough kids but it makes us want to work harder to keep our families and athletes happy!
We are not worried about the other gyms opening in our area. The coaching and program we run will speak for itself. Good luck to any new gyms opening in the east bay. It's a rough journey you are about to embark on. Have lots of comfort food near and remember it doesnt help to pull out your hair. Lol.
