Since it was brought up, even the best in the business has obstacles to overcome; since you brought up cheergyms, and I mean no disrespect, but they have had gyms close over the years and are now down to two.   So don't assume a gym bought by a parent or parents won't last because I know of a few gyms that might prove you wrong.

Derrick from Pyramids or somewhere else? Not really sure because the cheergyms.com site isn't really updated with their new staff, teams or anything really so everything is up for assumption unless proven otherwise.

I think any gym can close for numerous amounts of reason. Regarding NCE, Roy pretty much built up that program, including the college program they have. Yes the gym will exist and move on, but it won't look like the same program. Existing isn't the same as doing well. Look at Mervyns, been around for 50 years and now they are all shutting down.

So gyms who have been around for ages could end up like Mervyns someday?  Better start having clearance sales... old trophies half off.

LOL! Well look at what gyms were around in the mid to late 90s and compare that to todays gyms. Even in Northern California.

Nor Cal may have some talented kids in their program, but we all know that it is about winning and for level 5 making it to Worlds.  Are you really going to stay at a gym that doesn't have a program director or head coach that does not know how to produce winning teams, Worlds level teams?

so then the question becomes - where does everyone go from here? I love our coast's strong gyms but I hope that transitions bring strong talent to smaller and/or new gyms to revitalize this sport.  I really don't want to see too many Top Gun situations (don't twist this - I love me some Top Gun!).  I just don't want the kids who lose their home gyms or lose faith in their home gyms to head to the "sure thing."

Also, a lot of people keep bringing up how successful gyms are going under one at a time.  I, for one, think its sad.  I'm excited for new times and flow with change.  But I just don't understand how these original gyms have come to suffer in recent years.  What the heck is going on???

Sorry to hijack the topic...I'm excited for San Jose! (is that better? smile)

So what you are saying is nobody is going to stay at a gym that doesn't produce world qualifying level 5 teams? Try telling that to cheer odyssey and other gyms who have been around for years.
