RE: Day Care at Practice

I really don't feel that this message board is the appropriate forum for this topic of discussion.  Isn't there a parent section or somewhere else it can be placed?

The topic dealt with teen pregnancy, so we are still on topic. I think this is a healthy discussion. If kids are sharing a team with teen mothers, then this isn't an inappropriate discussion for all age levels. That being said:

Teen pregnancy happens.

Parents and teens should do everything in their power to discourage it.

If it does happen, there's a right way and wrong way to deal with it. We can use the example of our VP candidate's family as a good way of handling it. She made a choice to keep her baby, and although her life will be a little more difficult as a result, she has a strong and loving family that will be there to support her.

Being a working mom - even with the demands of a powerful and difficult job - is possible. Yes girls, you can have it all. Yes you can be a Mayor, a Governor, a Vice President or President and have a family. Having a loving and supporting husband helps.

Being a cheerleader is a great start for leadership and people skills. Many famous and professional people were cheerleaders. President Bush was a cheerleader in college.

Being a teen mom will make having it all more difficult. Don't get pregnant. Abstinence is best, but if you can't commit to that, please use birth control.

Are we forgetting Palin's infant has down syndrome?  If that isn't yet another reason to take on less responsibility in the workforce I don't know what is.  Yes her husband will be taking care of all of them, but he will basically be a single parent because she'll be gone most of the time.   The thing is, speaking as a mother, I just don't know many women who would not put their family first in this situation.  She is not a woman I can admire for a variety of reasons, but this is the icing on the cake.  I have a good feeling she will have more time to spend at home than she'd prefer, in less than a month from now.

This was Sarah Palin's statement about her daughter's pregnancy. This is hardly the heart of a parent who doesn't care. The Palin's are not the same as the Hollywood names you quote. I think most reasonable parents would understand that at times our children disappoint us by their actions, but that we still love and support them.

"We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us. Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.

"Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi's privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates."

Wow this post really got off topic. As far as the cheerleader bringing her baby to practice. Hmm, i don't think this is acceptable. On the flip side of this I don't think it's acceptable when the coaches have their little kids in the gym running amuck when they are trying to coach a team. It is dangerous and at the very least distracting. I view a cheer gym just like any other business. Some businesses are just run more professional than others.

Sara is amazing ,who else she flies in choppers shootin the big bad wolves with her amazing red rider gun. Who needs sex ed especially in Alaska they need people up there.

It's funny how you can crack jokes about people in Alaska, but if people were to say how "crazy and liberal Californians are" then you would cry prejudice and rudeness. "Open minded" people are the most close minded.

You are so on it! Californians are so liberal, so prejudice and so rude. And help, I'm living in the midst of it. yuck!

So why then are you there? Are your feet glued to the ground? If I was you I would load up the mini van and get the heck out.

I drive an Escalade and I don't do mini vans.  My work does not permit me to move because I make too much money. My daughter loves her team. And I like her gym and her coaches.  And I love the weather in Southern California.  That's why I don't leave.

It's unfortunate the liberals you've met are rude, just like it's unfortunate the religious conservatives I have to deal with on a daily basis are also rude.  But there are always exceptions, thank goodness!

And we know that your going to be there first to point that out. To be honest I don't think anyone in Hollywood is a "role model." I think its funny when actors try to speak on politics or anything educational. They are ACTORS, yes some might be smart, but seriously Hollywood doesn't portray America or its true values. Its the land of FAKENESS and make believe. Why people even value their opinion is beyond me. I would value someone who has actually done some good work in the community versus someone like Tom Cruise or Ellen DeGeneres.

Umm, not really. The only thing they have in common is that their teenage daughter's got pregnant. Aside from that, they are worlds apart.

Many thought provoking posts.  I do think the original poster who started the topic was pretty heinous.  If you can be general about a problem sure, but it just specific enough to be tacky.  That was being cruel to a particular person which is not nice.

And back to the melee, I heard Jamie Lynn is pregnant again.

Doesn't Barack have two young children?  Why is it ok for him to be away from the home and Michelle to be a "single mother," maybe we still believe deep down that the raising of the children is the mother's job?

As for the teen parent at practice: we need to remember that the gym is there for teaching skills required for cheering not sex education.  We should be instilling the values we want to see our children live, but they will be the one to ulitmately make the decision to or not to have premarital sex.  We cannot lock our children in a box to prevent them from being around or seeing actions that we do not agree with, but we can use those moments as a time to teach about the consequences of our choices/behaviors.

I think the issue is Palin has more on her plate than the average mom, and it's hard for some of us to imagine adding even more considering their circumstances. Most of us can't relate to someone who wouldn't put their family first, especially when she preaches family values as much as she does. And I won't even get into the results of the latest probe regarding her work ethics. For someone who supposingly not only talks the talk but walks the walk, her actions speak otherwise.
