so since we are going to start talking about comps... im sooo excited for this competition this year... it finally looks like this competition is going to be a good one again. it died down a little bit the last few years... there is going to be some amazing competition this year and i cant wait to see who is going to be recieving some bids here!!! what do you guys think and who are you excited to see??? :)
cant wait to see the junior 5 competition!!! and senior 5 should be amazing to watch as well
i am excited to go back after 2 years of not going however i will admit i am a little disappointed. It seems majority of the teams that are attending are from california. I do realize there are three teams that arent, but we will see all three of those gyms in february. I dont understand why we are all driving/flying to vegas to compete against each other when it would be cheaper and more convenient to compete somewhere local in california. I understand it is fun to have away comps. I think it is great bonding for the kids and parents as a whole. I just wish it could be the american grand of a few years ago. With cheer athletics, with woodlands elite, with denali allstars etc. it was fun for west coast teams to be able to see some of these gyms instead of just the same old same old.

Very true. The organization could have just as easily chosen a nice blinged out hotel in California to compete at. I vote for Morongo or Pachenga...LOL There are certainly nicer hotels but you get my drift. Maybe there are kick backs involved in using Vegas hotels. I'm sure in years past, going to Vegas was actually the draw for out of state teams. I'm thinking we're going to continue seeing changes in this industry over the next year or two (or more). You never know, maybe we will have a major comp in Califorinia next year.
On another quick note, I think its kinda cool how the economy has changed the dynamics of the gyms. it has proven difficult for some gyms, but for others I think they may see some growth - especially those who have had to compete with larger gyms in the past for talent. I envision people choosing to stay closer to home, including commiting to their local gyms and opting to travel less during comp season.
I think all teams are cutting back on travel due to the economy which is probably why American Grand is only attracting teams that are driving distance. I think Vegas still holds an attraction to gyms wanting to still provide a "destination" competition, without extreme travel costs. Those that can afford may choose to fly, but those who can't can always drive.
i feel like american grand wouldnt be "american grand" if it weren't in vegas. but at the same time... i feel like since it's left the MGM it really hasn't been the same.
but i still love vegas!

yes i agree.... it has changed alot since MGM... its sad..; but all in all i hope it turns out to be a great competition. There is still about a month left for registration so hopefully there will be alot of last minute gyms who decide to compete and make the competition even more exciting :)
