I'm so tired of reading all the messages complaining about all us terrible Cheer Parents.Yes every gym has one of those parents that make you cringe and yes even the nicest parents can be a pain at one time or another. We are only human.Face it when it comes to our kids sometimes we only see what we want to see. What kills me most is when I read some of the responses from kids and how negative and thankless they are.FACT without us you would not be cheering. For once I'd like to hear about some of the good things I see some parents do.I'm a firm believer that a good gym usually has good parent participation.I've met some awesome cheer mom and dads. From the mom/dad who take hundreds of photos at each competition. Those parents who make all the Goodie Bags, and put in all the extra hours arranging trips, sleepovers, etc. Parents that spend endless hours organizing Booster Clubs and Fund Raisers that help paying for cheer just bit easier.Don't forget those Team Moms. Most coaches would be lost without them.We parents love our kids and sacrifice a lot so they can do something they love.It would be nice for just once to hear a little appreciation.Tell us about an AWESOME Cheer Mom or Dad you may have from your own gym.
I am going to root for the underdogs...the parents who just come and sit and visit with other parents and make it pleasant to while away some boring hours with fun hearted conversation. I'd say that represents MOST cheerparents.
Back in my daughter's day, we had these three parents (two were married) that were amazazing! Two were the gym moms and the things those two came up with...beyond belief! There was the "Amazing Race" senior retreat, the well-thought out comp gifts (NOTHING was the same old same old), the hardback school-like yearbook, etc etc etc. The third was the husband that took all the pro-like photos and played much fun pranks on the gym director. They were great! I miss them!
I applaud all those cheer parents that keep it fun and put in hard work not only for their child, but for the whole team. It is a team sport after all. The parents that set good examples by being there for all of the kids on their team shows what true cheer should be about and maybe those parents that seem to be overbearing just don't realize it.
Cheer parents ROCK. We are dedicated to our kids and their teams. We spend endless amounts of time driving them to and from. I have met such awesome parents through the gym I wouldn't know who to list first. I had so many questions my first year in cheer and a couple of the moms took me under their wings and let me call them whenever I needed a question answered. Not all parents are able to spend as much time with cheer, but we all know that sometimes it isn't possible. I just really appreciate the encouragement I received from them. Not all parents are "beauty pageant" moms, there's always that one, but the rest of us? WE ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By far, the most entertaining and enjoyable retreat/team bonding event I have EVER experienced. Nothing even comes close. When I compare that event to others its like comparing Nolan Ryan to a better than average Double A pitcher.
However, the pranks that Tamara mentioned...not funny. Especially the one where when I turned my car on the alarm went off. Or the pink wall in my office.

Hooray for our senior team mom who painstakingly videos the entire season (tryouts, practices, fun days and all the way through the last competition) and then compiles a year-end video set to music that makes us all laugh and cry, and duplicates it on cd (at her own expense) for every member of the team and all the coaches. She's done this the last several years, and it's the highlight of our year-end banquet and a priceless memory for every cheerleader and family on the team.
Hooray for our parents who volunteer their time for our banquets, bbq's, fundraisers, office work, carpooling, and so many other things.
And hooray for the poster who finally thought it was time to acknowledge the parents who don't cause the drama who actually help things run more smoothly because it's nearly impossible for our gym owners and coaches to do everything themselves.
Not all cheer parents are from HELL - ours are a BLESSING (or at least most of them are)
Well we have awesome parents at my gym (California Spirit). I can't even tell you how much they do on a daily and weekly basis from team events, goody bags, popsicle sales, website updates, pictures at EVERY event and just very supportive for the most part. I encourage all the parents to let me know how they feel about something and it seems to work out well. In all honesty there are crazy parents in every gym and every sport. Even though I don't understand why some parents are so eratic and negative, the positive parents out weigh the bad ones. Its just fun meeting them and seeing their child grow along the process. Basically our parents do an awesome job helping us during the ENTIRE year.
Our gym (Pacific Coast) has a gym parent coordinator who is beyond awesome. He is at every function, organizes fundraising, sends out emails, takes pictures, and is the "go to guy." There is nothing he won't or can't do. He even greets every parent and cheerleader that walks into the gym when he is there, which is about all the time. So, a huge KUDOS goes out to the ultimate gym parent.............Alex, we love you. You're the best!!
