do you all think it is appropriate for another team to try to recruit your girls at a competition? we were at a competition where a team was recruiting from all the other teams. is this right?
whoa..not at all! why would they do that?! were they actually asking people to come and join their team? obviously they are already on a cheer team its not like you are gonna quit and go to that team..
It did happen...I'd love to name the program because it was just so tacky but since I'm not giving my name I suppose it's not fair to give mine either. Someone tried to recruit one of the owner's children, not knowing who she was! Something like 15 of our girls were approached when we asked around.
Of course its not right to recruit kids from other programs at a competition...but be careful of labeling it right away. I have seen girls from certain programs approach other coaches asking them about their programs and so the coaches responded and gave them the information they wanted but they were in no way recruiting. I have also seen some coaches blame "recruiting" for kids leaving their gym to go to other gyms even though nothing of the sort even happened.
But yeah, it is pretty obvious that its not an okay thing to do at a competition and that kids will go to whatever program they want...if they are not happy they will find a new gym and if they are happy where they're at then no "recruiting" will convince them go to a different program. Plus, gyms want kids that are at their program because they love it, not because they were convinced to try it out.
