RE: Professional Cheerleading

Wow! Crazy thread growth!

While I would not respond to the situation the same as OCMom, I do not believe her to be wrong nor am I surprised by her opinion. I've only quickly met her in person once, but she's never posted on here anything ultra-conservative to make me think she felt one way or another. I, too, do not believe that a woman's body is something to be ashamed of; however, I do believe that it's something more special than to be shared with the entire world. I've also learned that the times I've resoundly put my foot down with nothing more than "because I said so" are the times when my oldest has shown me I really can't control what she does. On the flip side, when I've taken the time to explain why I don't want her to do something are the times when she does as I wish.

As for the actual topic, yes I think professional cheerleaders are really cheerleaders. I do think that what they do affects the way outside people look upon all-stars. Hopefully some day all will know what the difference is between school, all-star and professional cheer, but for now it's up to the people in the know to realize that not everyone knows the difference and help politely educate them.

I wrote the post above, I did not write it to upset anyone, please understand what I m saying. My life experinces have taught me the things and reasons I listed. You really never know where life will lead you and while Grandma may not be happy, if it was between you eating or starving (the economy has taught us this) I think she would just be happy that you could eat.

Not being disrespectful at all, please understand I know what you mean! Some of the things I have done i would die knowing my grandmother seen that, but if you beleive in GOD you know we are forgiven for ALL of our sins big and small and as long as grandma's looking down on us, she understands trust me.

God does not want His girls to prostitute themselves.  And He will forgive.  Oh sure but just remember, when we lock God out and give the devil his rights to us.  He, the devil  gets to play with us.  So, your question, will God forgive?  Yes, but will the devil in the process devour us.  Yes on that too.  So, how did it get to this, just raising the question on professional cheerleading.  Wow!  can you take it any farther than this?  I don't really care for the whole cowboy cheerleaders, because I love to watch competition cheer with extreme power tumbling and so on.  But to put these girls under the same  as prostitution is ridiculous.  Please get a job at Mcdonalds, get respectable if you aren't able to make it financially.  Because, seriously things aren't that bad.  And in Cali, there is always welfare.  or some other government program.

To all the kids out there.... welfare is NOT a solution. Get an education. THAT is the solution. Please do not rely on public assistance. It's really not the way you WANT to go. Use it should you completely have to but not as a choice.

Thank you everyone for a really thought provoking thread. I will always give everyone my open mind and open heart and will ALWAYS take your opinions in consideration. Because I am human, I am never ALWAYS perfect or correct.

I am always open to listening and learning. This is promise to each of you.

Ok, this is a great thread.  What I was trying to say, never prostitute yourself.  Jobs are out there, and if your really down and out.  Our state has welfare for those who are going through some major hardships.

Geez, give me a break!~

Do you think that professional cheerleaders like the Saber Cats, Raiderettes,  and the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders are really cheerleaders.  I personally would not call them cheerleaders more dance teams.  Do you think the image they project effects changing peoples perspective of cheerleading being a sport.

I think they are more like a dance team.  I do think the image they portray does affect the sport in a negative way for allstar teams, because there is just so much more to the sport in allstars.

Yes, getting back to the original topic, it most definitely portrays the sport in a negative way because when you get to this level it really is no longer a sport.  If you look at the girls that are selected it seems it's more about their physical appearance than anything else -- they are there for the males in the stands who buy their calendars and pose next to them for pictures.   Calling them athletes is like calling the girls who pose next to cars at car shows mechanics.

First, I want to say how proud I am of most of us posters for being adults and disscussing not arguing our points.  Threads often turn so ugly as we all know.

While I think we have gotten a bit off subject, I wonder how many of us would support Professional Cheerleading and not Playboy?  To those parents out there who started comparing the two, do you tihnk they are really that similar?
I would support my adult child in either.

To anon who brought up God and the Devil, First I think its not fair to judge others baised on your religious beliefs.  Second bringing up God and the devil is about as far off subject as we can get, and you ask how we got this far out there.

I do not believe that Professional Cheerleading or Playboy is prostituting its not even remotely close.  I think Professional Cheerleaders and Playmates alike would be horrified to hear that compairison.

Just another thought...what makes a UCA or similar companies staff members or even us gym staff members / owners not Professional Cheerleaders???

The definition of Professional is: "following an occupation as a means of livelihood or for gain, following as a business an occupation ordinarily engaged in as a pastime."  I think with these definitions a UCA staff member, gym staff or owners are also considered Professional Cheerleaders.

I do not consider being a Pro Football Cheerleader a form of prostitution.  However I do consider posing in playboy a form of prostituting yourself.  I do not consider it art to pose naked in sexually provocative positions that are meant to sell sex to an adult magazine for men.   If my daughter became a Pro Football Cheerleader of course I'd support her decision.  Although I do not consider them to be athletes, but more a dance team.  On the other hand no I would not support her if she chose to pose nude in a magazine and would let her know I did not approve.  Would I still love her yes, and I would never turn my back on her.  I have a right to stand behind my own beliefs.  As an adult the decisions you make can effect others and sometimes come with consequences.  One being that not every decision you make will come with the approval of your parents and family.  I think that the the word Professional is being misused here.  Pro Football Cheerleader vs. Professional Cheerleader.  I would consider Coaches, Choreographers, Pro X, etc. to be Professionals.
