From what I've seen over the years there are two types of parent teams. In one of them typically the majority of the members are young parents who used to cheer and want to show everyone they can still tumble and stunt. In the other the members are typically older and not so athletic, and they do it to entertain the crowd, and for some kind of exercise. I agree you don't see this in any other sport (and as we have argued with others plenty of times, cheerleading is a sport). A sport even your parents can do, apparently.
Oh, but baseball does, football does, basketball does, volleyball does. The parks have them and they play against other park teams. Do a little more research. It is for fun just like the parent teams.
If your kids play football are you getting the parent team together to play at halftime what about baseball track swimming how about dance? Why do that to cheerleading. It should be your kids time to shine not Mom or Dads. Work out other ways it comes across as a desperate.
Get over yourself. I think the programs that have the parent teams are the better gyms. And besides the kids love giving their parents a hard time. Please, I think your probably a parent that isn't into it, go get popcorn while they perform. The judges love it. It breaks up the day.

That is true, but it is on their own time, not before, during, or after the kids play. They don't jump out there and start playing for the crowd during breaks from the real reason we're all there, to watch our kids. Just pointing that out.
I have no problem with parent teams because I know if I don't want to watch I can go take a break somewhere. I don't get the point of them, but that's my problem.

I wonder do they have to pay a fee to the competion company if so there is the reason they like it more money. Please parents do us all a favor, do it on your own time I would like to watch the kids and go home.
Well, I think it is great. I don't know about the whole payment thing. But they do pay to get into the comp. And many of them have more than one child so they live at the gym. They actually build a relationship with the coaches in a coaching situation and I think makes for a better understanding of the sport, of importance of a team member and better for gym unity. I would not do it, and some of the parents that are on the team are a little annoying. But hey, they make me laugh.

When my kids ran track, the last event of the day was always a parent team, 4x100 relay. You could tell it was just for fun, except for the Marine Corps team, they were hardcore and definitely in it to win it, lol.
If you still got it, your body can take it and your gym has the team...sign up for the college team! It was fun! Good work out and My daughter LOVED theh fact that we did something togetheher ( not the college).
I think they are fun to watch. Comps are serious business for gym owners, parents and athletes. Parent Teams come out are crazy and fun to watch. If your embarrassed by it, lighten up. Don't watch, turn the other way. But for the parents that want to have a little fun on a stressful day, go for it.
I have to agree - Parent teams are about the most embarrassing thing to watch, as are the competitions that bring moms and dads on stage for dance-offs to kill time before awards ceremonies. Not fun or funny to me. That's usually my cue to use the restroom or step outside for a break. Not my cup of tea. I'm there to watch the kids, not other people my age who want attention.
What gyms are having them this year? What are their team names?
