Parent teams are just embarrassing to watch.  I'm sooooooooooooo glad our gym doesn't do this.  Even when they try to make the routines funny, I can barely stomach watching them.

But the question is, why?   Let  your kids have the glory and attention, why do you feel the need to as well?

Why not. Our gym does not have a parent team, but it would be awesome if they did. I think it's a great way to get parents more involved in thier gyms. Besides just attending comps, fundraising, and making goodie bags it's a great way to bond with the coaches and other parents. Parents get a bad rap on this board sometimes. A gym only benifits from parents being involved. It can make a good gym a great gym. It by no means takes away from the kids. From what I've seen the kids love it. Kudos to all the parent teams I think your wonderful and enjoy watching you. biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

Yes it is a lot of fun!!  We get to see the hard work it takes to put a team together.  We're not trying to take away from the kids and I dont think it does anyways!  The kids really enjoy it and cheer us on!  My daughter loves it! She likes going through the routine with me at home just to make sure my motions are sharp!! aww
Don't worry we won't be wearing any spandex so that should relieve you!! LOL!! wink

Just curious what most owners/coaches think about having Parent Teams. Do you like the idea and if you currently have one is it a good experience?

I would love to have a parent team. Every year my parents see another parent team and tell me "we want to do that" but we never get it off the ground. I think it would be an awesome experience not only for the parents involved but for the kids as well. I feel it shows the kids that the parents support what they do by doing it too! It also seems to be a great way for the kids to lighten up a sometimes stressful day, how fun would it be to see your mom or dad out there shakin it. I applaud parent teams. My favorite are the parent hip hop teams.

Way to go parents!!!

It just all gets so tedious to watch.  Parent teams at the end of the competition, dance offs with the cheerleaders, dance offs with the parents . . . . At the end of a long day of competition, out the door early to support all our gym's teams from tiny to senior, listening to very loud music (between performances) and various noisemakers from the crowd all day, the absolute last thing I want to see at the end of a very long day is someone my age or older shaking what their mama gave 'em and thensome.  At that point, I just want to enjoy the awards program and go home.  Cheer competitions are really long.  It's a bunch of filler that just makes the whole day a lot longer.  I love the competition - I could do without all the extras.  I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels that way.

Most of the time parent teams are used as fillers while waiting for results or during breaks. Your day is probally going to be just as long with or without them. I suggest if you don't like watching it would be a great time to go get that cup of coffee you will need for the long ride home after a long day of competition.

I noticed in some of the videos posted that quite a few parents were throwing pretty good backhand springs and even saw one or two back tucks. Do a lot of parents take privates at your gym? I know at our old gym one of the mons did privates with her daughter. Just curious because if I tried that I know I'd kill myself. I refuse to give my age but I know I would never attempt any of it. I quess I'm asking where the heck did they learn to do that. Maybe it's a case of cheerleaders spawning cheerleaders. LOL it's in the genes!!!

I think most parent teams have a few seniors or newly aged out kids who do the choreography that also perform with the team.
