Everyone wants them safe at home. You are a moran and you have no clue. We were all just minding our own business and then 911 happened, 3000 innocent Americans were killed. And you know what, they are still trying to get in here to take over our planes and figure out ways to kill us. Iran right now is waging war, why because they are crazy. They think that if they have a war with us and the Jews, that their messiah will come back to earth. They think women are less than dogs, property to hit, kill whatever. Our troops are seeing this treatment of woman and young girls for themselves. Instead of playing on the internet watch the military channel. Get an education before you spout off all the junk you know nothing about. People have died for decades to keep people in this country free. Educate yourself. Never Forget 911!

The prices would NOT drop for years down the road, and there are already places we could be drilling, but the oil companies are holding out because, well, they can. They want MORE places to drill and they figure now they just might get it. It's all about money if you haven't figured that out by now. Thank you Arnold for going against your party on this one. I'm not sure why people on this board are misleading readers, but I would encourage everyone to do your research and not take my word or theirs, find out on your own.

Your facts are misleading readers, I know for a fact that supply and demand is what it is about. Our country is now buying oil from other countries throughout the world. There is now drilling in the Gulf of Mexico near Florida by the Chinese, why wouldn't we want to drill instead of getting the oil from China. I don't understand where this is coming from. You need to educate yourself. We have not had any new drilling for the past 27 years in the USA.

Oh and yes about your good friend Arnold, the reason he just said there is a water shortage in California, which there isn't is because of a fish called the "Smelt". He is trying to protect at the point of telling the California's you have to cut back. Please!

Dont believe the hype! Many posters give the impression that we believe liberal politicians have some agenda to make oil prices higher. In fact, no politician, liberal or otherwise, has any influence on how much oil is available or what it costs. Here's why: The price of oil is set by commodities futures traders. Oil has not become 50 percent more scarce in the last year, but the price has more than doubled. Like grain, gold, and orange juice, not to mention hog bellies, oil is a commodity that's traded far from the oil fields and refineries.

Exacerbating the situation is the fact that the current administration has made the dollar's value plunge, due to its profligate deficit spending combined with the amount all of us Americans have put ourselves in hock to the Chinese so that we could have cheaper goods. Why does this matter?

Because oil is traded in dollars, not Euros or other currencies. Because our dollar's value has eroded in the past five years, the price of oil is about 30 percent higher, even if the amount of available oil hasn't changed one iota. Politicians aren't solely to blame for this mess. It's us. Sitting in gas lines in 1973 and 1980 apparently didn't impress us enough to demand more fuel-efficient vehicles here in the US. Instead, we have Escalades, Yukons, and Hummers to drive the same size families around that we once drove around in Novas, Impalas, and Fairlanes. We favor big vehicles with lots of horsepower over conservative usage. And since the last oil shock a quarter of a century ago, China and India have become major consumers of oil, competing with us for the same resource. This is only going to get worse.

Europeans and Japanese get it. Americans, by and large, don't. Detroit didn't come up with hybrid cars, and they killed the electric car. The rest of the world drives more efficient vehicles and somehow they do just fine. Currently, the U.S. uses more than 800 million gallons of oil each day, of which about 20 million gallons is burned in cars. Californians alone burn 14 billion gallons a year, more than 400 gallons per person - and we rank eighth lowest in consumption of all 50 states, per capita.The U.S. uses four times as much oil as China, and we use more than China, Japan, Germany, Russian, India, and Canada combined.

Finally, note that we still get a large amount of our oil from domestic U.S. sources, but the U.S. producers sell their oil at the worldwide price. We don't get an "American discount for Americans" from our fellow Americans. They stick us as hard as the Saudis, Venezuelans, and other oil producers. So, even if we drill every inch of Alaska, the Gulf of Mexico, or Peoria, Illinois, the price of gas isn't going to come down. The best thing isn't to find more sources of oil; it's to find smarter ways to use less.

I agree 100% too, thank you for the informative post! I do think people need to research this on their own if they are leary of believing these posts or don't know who is telling the truth versus who has a hidden agenda (desperately trying to sway you a particular direction during this election year).

I will be trading in my SUV for either a smaller car or a hybrid. It's a start anyway.

The oil companies from America have said that there are so many restraints on them. Did you know 70% of the fuel that you pay goes for federal taxes. Now who is making the money? California alone a least 10% tax to the fuel that we use. Seriously people, we need some changes in our government. Go to other states and see what they are paying compared to California. So Dakota 4.00 a gal for diesel. Our truckers can't survive on this. So you go ahead and buy your iddy biddy cars, but think what this is doing to the small business. Cheer and Gas! Think about it. Politicians are more involved than you think.

Yukon, Escalades, Hummers use less fuel than these vehicles from the past: Novas, Fairlanes, Pintos, Impalas (seriously we have come along way!)

I will not change my vehicle. I drive too many young children in my car to go small. It is just too dangerous on the roads. Our country is so rich with what we need as far as resources, I don't understand why they will not let us use them. So much is being closed down in the name of preservation it isn't funny. Yukon, Escalades, Hummers use less fuel than these vehicles from the past: Novas, Fairlanes, Pintos, Impalas (seriously we have come along way!)
