GAS PRICES ARE NOT BECAUSE OF BUSH, THEY ARE BECAUSE OF THE RADICAL ENVIRONMENTALIST (WHO SUPPORT DEMOCRATS). EVERYTIME THEY (THE OIL COMPANIES) TRY TO DRILL OIL IN THE USA, THE SIERRA CLUB AND ITS PUMPED UP MORONS LIKE MICHEAL MOORE TAKE THE GOVERNMENT TO COURT CONCERNING ANY SO-CALLED ENDANGERED SPIECES THAT THEY CAN DRUM UP. WE HAVE OIL, BUT THERE HASN'T BEEN NEW DRILLING ALLOWED IN THE USA IN THIRTY YEARS. AND THE ARABS, THE CHINESE, THE CANADIANS, SALVADORANS, MEXICANS ETC LIKE IT. BECAUSE WE HAVE TO BUY FROM THEM. SO THE NEXT TIME THEY WANT TO SALE YOU THE CRAP, WHICH WALKS HAND IN HAND WITH THE DEMOCRATS, ABOUT THE SPOTTED OWL, THE RATS, THE FLEAS, THE WHATEVER. Oh Boy first the INVESTOR and now the Republician! I thought this thread was walking about how the high gas prices are effecting us parents out in the cheer world.

What are some of the things that parents are doing to help balance life with the high cost of gas and paying for such a pricey sport?

Republican and investor, works for me. At least someone has brains.

Anyway, our gym keeps their prices down compared to some of the gyms out there. They are keeping most of the competitions more local and we are trading our SUV Hummer to a compact car, the CTS caddy. Because my level 5 child has got to stay in cheer. It is just too important to her.

Our gym has set up a carpool system that gives parents the option to carpool especilly those of us who travel 30 miles or more.... The receptionist organized a list of parents who wanted to carpool and gather all the info for us and we set up car pools. she supplied numbers and addresses as well as emails after getting permission from us. it is perfect each of us takes a week. they also allowed us parents to stay at practice especially those of us who travel so far so that we dont have to sit in our cars and run the air or drive around town until practice is over. we all signed an agreement to not be disruptive and so far it has been a blessing and we are so thankful. believe me we are super quiet because we do not want to lose the privelage of not wasting gas and money because they had to close practice. It work great.... any parent who comes in there and they dont follow the rules we save the staff the energy and ask them politely to be quiet so they dont ruin it for us. we only had one mom who couldnt stop talking and when we all jumped on her she left and hasnt been back lol. peer pressure i tell you lol
we really appreciate them taking a chance on us parents and helping us save money. boy has this helped our bufget a great deal. we only have about 4 to 5 parents who take advantage of this but we are so thankful.

MEDIA???? get info from the media/? You do know who owns the media! perhaps it would be prudent to READ and reseach.... I think the first comment was the most accurate, and it nothing to do with 401k, IRA, etc... yes that may all be in place but it does not change facts..... check on them!

I wouldn't care if my 401K funds were getting fatter because of what people are having to pay for gas, it still makes me sick to watch families struggle, many without such funds. Being happy that the rich are getting richer off of the less fortunate, spoken like a true Republican.

Anyway, aside from the political stuff it sounds like based on these posts there are things gyms can do to help, things we can all suggest to our gym if they're not doing them already.

Please, people who say that is what a Republican are so NOT educated. Republicans stand for less governemt, more independent choices and doing what is best for your individual needs which CREATES freedon of CHOICE. Sorry I don't want the government to run my life like a little uneducated drone. The president has knew this was going to happen but thanks to the wonderful democrats and crazy environmentalists we are in this crap and its going to take a LONG time to get out. You are so right. Do you like being told what to do, and who to give their money to? Me on the other hand, remembers a check being sent back to me as a tax rebate from "BUSH". OBAMA AND HILLARY RUSHED IN THE MIDDLE OF THEIR CAMPAIGN TO VOTE AGAINST THAT TAX REBATE IN THE FUTURE.
The rich keep getting richer, like the kennedys, oprah, obama, hillary, the stupid music and movie stars. ( and they will be rich and you will be just poor little ol me, because that is where they want you.) They live on there ranches and you can't even go to the fed and state parks because they close at a certain time. You like all these laws and taxes, well just keep voting democrat. And keep paying the government for all those nice government jobs. Who pays for all those government jobs, people like you and me. My tax rebate went and helped pay for cheer this year. But obama gets in, instead of taking 40%, he said he is going to hike your taxes up to 65%. Start voting smart. Quit listening to CNN, CBS, NBC, MSNBC. Because those people don't know squat.
Educate yourself for a change, read what is really going on. And stop listening to the propaganda. Everytime they pass another law, you loose a FREEDOM.

What government job to you have? Democrats have control of the state. And if you are proud that our deficit, is the highest it has ever been, that sure is a lot to be proud of. By the way, deficit means: the amount by which an expected or required sum of money falls short. That means there is too much spending going on. I am a Republican and think we need government jobs, but we don't need the foolish government spending on programs that DON'T WORK. Seriously why can't ever get accountability on these social programs. See if it is effective.

We do need government jobs, you are right. But we need accountability on spending. We need to stop listening to special interest and allow the oil companies back in to drill in our country. We also need California to quit taxing our oil and let the people have a break. Fuel in other parts of the country are so much cheaper.

We are ridesharing at our gym. Buying our food and preparing it at home. We figured out fast food, we were spending $400 to $500 per month. It has seriously helped us financially.

Sometimes the emotion that accompany's "indefinite" can cause panic or it can push people to new limits....I'm hoping for the latter. Let's make this season worth the million bucks that we're about to pay (a little humor?) It's the very least that we can do.

May every gym from the West Coast to East and from North to South kick MAJOR boody this season!

It will be an interesting season for sure.
