GAS N CHEER

How is everyone dealing with this gas crisis?  I know quite a few people who no longer take private tumbling lessons because of it.  I feel for all those who have to drive distances to get to their gym.  At over $5 a gallon some will pay double or triple what a normal season costs.  The thought of having to give up cheer breaks my heart for my kids (and me too), even though they don't fully understand the impact that high gas and groceries will have on our overall lifestyle.  I, like all of you parents, know that -without question- cheer will HAVE to go if things don't get better...and I don't see them getting better any time soon.  I watch the news daily hoping that instead of reporting the new hike in cost per barrel someone will have breaking news about a solution.  Is there truly NOTHING that can be done??? This is all spriraling out of control! (Sorry to get so deep with it.)

In short, I think this season will be stressful, expensive and emotionally charged for many.  I think it will reveal the struggles of many many gyms AND I think this may be one of our most competitive seasons yet, if for no other reason than this may very well be the start of an indefinite hiaitus for a lot of kids and family. Sometimes the emotion that accompany's "indefinite" can cause panic or it can push people to new limits....I'm hoping for the latter.  Let's make this season worth the million bucks that we're about to pay (a little humor?)  It's the very least that we can do.

May every gym from the West Coast to East and from North to South kick MAJOR boody this season!  aww

I too worry about how this season will play out, because as you said it's not just the cost of gas, it's the rippling effect it will have groceries, services, etc...   We have a few parents who drive 45 miles each way, I'm not sure if they will be able to this season.

I think gyms can help.  Every gym should have a way for parents to setup carpools.  Gyms who have members come three days a week could maybe condense it to two, with longer practices?   We have given up tumbling and go twice a week now.  Down the road (probably too late for this season) why not look into less expensive uniforms?  Do the uniforms really make the team if you have the talent?  I say no, talent makes the team.  Choose competitions that are less expensive.  If all the gyms in the area do it, you'll be competing against the best so it wouldn't matter which venue you're at, right??   I don't think gyms can just leave it to families to work this crisis out, I think it is to their advantage to find ways to help.

If you don't vote for Obama in essense you'll be voting in McCain (Bush2), and it will be more of the same.  If you're happy with the same, that's fine.   But the majority of people in this country are not.  I heard some people interviewed say they will be writing in Clinton's name.  Again, that's a sure way for McCain to win.

I did a cost analysis before decided weather I was going to make the 70 mile drive or stay with the 20 mile drive.  In the ended with the making the 70 mile drive was a little bit cheaper.

How can that be you ask?  When you start to add up the amount of times you have to drive for privates and the cost of the private for the year, it is the same amount of money that it cost extra to drive the 70 miles to another gym.

Increasing gas prices is a rip off!  The gas companies, the Bush family and who knows how many of members of our government are making soo much money off the American people.  And Bush says we need to learn how to use gas more efficiently.  HA!

With GAS PRICES on everyones mind rite now, here's a solution:

Those emails and chain letters everyone receives saying boycot gas on this day never works, everyone need to buy gas from one chain like ARCO or Mobil then you will see the other gas stations drop prices because there not getting any business. I say every and anyone involved with cheer in anyway buy from ARCO starting as of today, lets see what happensconfused

Note...... I have no ties to any gas stations, just used ARCO as example and if you have a better idea I would love to hear itsmile

NO, ARCO is a great one. It is one of the only gas companies around that use oil from the USA. In return our money stays right here instead of going over sees to people who would rather see us dead.

Is it safe to say you do not have an IRA, 401 K, Retirement Annuity or a 529 for your childrens college education!! What industries do you think are in alot of these investments. Oil an Gas companies, exploration companies, equipment manufacturers. JUST THINK OF IT AS ADDING TO TO THE INVESTMENT EXAMPLES I HAVE USED ABOVE.PLEASE DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE(SP?) BEFORE YOU SPOUT OFF ALL OF YOUR LIBERAL TALKING POINTS. DO SOME CRITICAL THINKING AND GET INFO FROM A VARIETY OF MEDIA OUTLETS!!!!

Interesting comment, seeing how most folks are seeing their retirements funds (401K's, etc...) dwindle slowly into nothing, mainly because of the rising cost of fuel and high unemployment rates.  Anyone who thinks that fuel costs today are a good thing for the economy and retirement funds are living on some other planet?

The person that spoke of earning profits from the gas prices isn't that far of base.  This person has a point.  If you are invested in the stock market and you have deversified funds sources and those sources invest in commodities, then you are making a ton of money right now.  It's an investment boom right now.  People are flooding the commodities market with their $$$ in hopes the gas prices increase.  Right now it's happening.  Is it an investment bubble?  You bet.  when will the bubble pop, it's anyone's guess.  As long as people throw money into the commodity trade the prices that you see at the gas pumps will increase.  The investors are winning this game right now, just like the last few years with real estate.

The best thing to do is to start searching out for the next up and coming investment bubble and start investing now.  In a few years that market will be huge and you will make a ton of money.  THINK GREEN!

The president election isn't going to change how the economy works, it's the major investors.  Vote for who you believe has the same common values you do.  And trust your internal instincts.  Not someone elses.
