RE: Did You Cheer?

I was searching You Tube for old Cheer Videos and came across this song by Paul Petersen who use to be on the Donna Reed show in the early 60's.  I know I'm really dating myself but I got a kick out of it and thought I'd share.  It's call The Cheerleader and was made in 1963.

Paul Petersen - The Cheer Leader - 45 rpm - 1963

What about summer 1993 USA Camps called " Dare to Dream" hosted at CSU Longbeach, the theme song was so corny it was great!!!!!!

Chorus was something like this:

" Just Dare to Dream, U-S-A , UH!

those were the days

OH MY GOSH!!!  I went to that same camp but in Santa Barbara!!!  It was USA and yes the theme was "Dare to Dream."  They always had these corny themes each year...do you remember when it was "Take it to the top?"  HAHAHA  I used to love going to camp each year.  My daughter cheers for school and they are non-competitive and she LOVES it!  She loves camp and all the little poster parties they have (yes they still have those...to my surprise)!  Good times!

Oh YES! I was a Rah Rah (somewhat derrogatory term during the late 60's and early 70's)  I did Song Girl (pom squad) 2 yrs in HS and Cheer 2 ys HS, cheer in Jr High, Cheer at Jr College. My daughters carried on with Rec league cheer, All Star Cheer 9 years, High School cheer and Now college cheer. We have traveled all over the country, traveled to Europe, and have met the most wonderful cheer moms and dads along the way!  I would'nt trade these years for anything in the world.

No. Never cheered although I was "recruited" by the coach and members to join my college squad way back in the day because I could out tumble any of them. But that was oh so very long ago. It hurts to do a cartwheel now...rofl!

and No - I never ever cheered - I was a cheerleader hatin' surf rat. Except one of my best friends was a cheerleader - so I was a fake hater AHAHAHAHAH -
But i was known to be LOUD (oh?) and during school rallies in High School my friend would get me to get everyone in our class to yell the loudest...funny....not much has changed today....You should have heard me at the Sharks playoff game ............

Ahhh the days of cheering.  Second generation right here.  James Logan High School.  Mary from Varsity fit me for my uniform, about 13 years later she sized my daughter for her uniform.  Bobby Biggs was one of my camp instructors at UC Davis. "Pumps in a Bump" by MC Hammer was the bomb dance my sophmore year!  Doing the butterfly in it!  I remember 1-2-3-4 Logan Colt Victory lets spell it out and it starts with V, V-I-C-T-O-R-Y (R).  LOL!  Back then in the cheer world we call a half an elevator and a full an extension. If you knew how to do a full down you the AWESOME!  I think towards the end of my high school years Cheergyms and Power just opened. Coached high school a couple of years then opened a cheergym...now I'm just a mom! Ahhh but those were some fun times.
