No - I did not cheer. In fact I was the anti-cheerleader. I played soccer, basketball, and softball. Back then, I would not of been caught dead, being a cheerleader. But let this be a lesson to the young. Be open to everything. Watching my daughter cheer now, has opened my eyes to this sport. Ad yes, it is a sport!
I cheered in 8th grade! We wore sweatshirts with iron on patches of our school mascot, parents made our skirts (we did have our name on the inside pleat), we had HUGE pom poms and white church gloves. Hopefully my daughter will never find those pictures.

Yes I can relate my mom had my uniform sewed by a lady on my 15th birthday and the poms were bigger then a beach ball.
I cheered all 4 years of high school. We competed and it was intense. I'm the opposite of what everyone is saying as far as it being "easy." I'm from Kentucky and now live in so cal. In Kentucky (at least where i'm from) high school cheer came first before anything as a way of taking pride in your school. We did the whole Flordia high school nationals, we were on TV...it was great. This was before all-star cheer though so really high school was all we had. Now that I have a daughter of my own, and we live in California, in the area where we live the high school team is good but the all star team is AWESOME! My daughter did one year of high school cheer, liked it and competed locally and went to USA nationals in Anaheim and placed. But she wanted the intensity of all-star cheer and the chance to go to worlds so she is only on an all-star team now. She might go back to high school her senior year or possibly do both, but she is only a sophomore now (soon to be junior) so she has some time to think about it. Yes cheer is a sport!!!
I cheered in High School and we had to cheer for everything boys and girls sports and all sports basketball and football, which was great because our school was CIF in those sports but also wrestling and water polo, yes I said it water polo.
Here is the cheer
H20 P- O- L- O H20 NORTH WATER POLO
and yes I was the bomb, cheer and pom squad captain. (I think I just tooted my own horn)
I remember going to NCA camp a couple of times for pom poms. It was a blast. It was stressful learning routines and staying up all night to perfect them for the judges the next day. Each camp we also learned a fun routine that we did sitting in the bleachers while we all sat in the bleachers. To funky songs like "Freak Out". Is that the name or just part of the song, can't remember, but I still remember some of the moves. Hilarious! Those are some of my favorite memories.
Oh the memories... Push em back push em back way baaack.... Lean to the left lean to the right stand up sit down fight fight fight! Dance done to the theme of Hawaii Five O...
You just put a big smile on my face by posting "Makin it". Myself and two other girls from our pom pom team were the only ones to go to NCA camp that summer. Not sure why. But I remember going to my friends house learning a routine to that song. Going out on the floor with only the three of us and winning a think a small division or maybe we just got a blue ribbon. Doesn't matter it was a blast. Wow what a long intro on that song!!!
I'M GONNA PEE MY PANTS FROM LAUGHING... I CANT WAIT TO SHOW THAT CHEER VIDEO TO EMILY...................
