Hey, I was curious how late in the season gyms take members? Is there ever a deadline? Should gyms still accept members who take most of the summer off?? I was just wondering how other gyms handle it. I can see both sides of the issue. You don't want to turn members away, but it also seems kind of unfair to those who have worked hard all summer.
You know, when we switched gyms, my previous gyms season ended later than others and and i looked around at gyms and we finally found our home with Cheer Odyssey in the later part of July Early August. I do not think that was too late at all, We did not miss camps and it was just enough time to learn the routines. But I have seen people join even later than that.

I am curious to see what other gyms do. There are those talented kids and their parents know it. So they play games and get away with not paying-it would be nice if all gyms could at least say their not coming in without paying an extra fee then it would set a standard at gyms. But we know that won't happen.

Our gym charges a season cost. There is no way for a parent to skip out on any extra fees. The season starts the minute the cheerleader walks in the gym. It's actually a disadvantage for a cheerleader to wait until the summer months to start at our gym late in the game. They are missing out of all the conditioning and tumbling. It's these cheerleaders and parents that complain when their daughters remain at the same level year after year, and watch other girls that worked out year round pass them up and move forward to the next level. I guess you can say, if your want your moneys worth, at our gym, then you need to get in and start working out on day one. No since paying for a full season when you are only getting 6-8 months worth of training.
We don't necessarily have a cut off date for new members to join. Alot of our lower level girls take the summer off because they feel they can get more from privates throughout the summer than from teams. They also take it off because their parents see it as a way to save money by not paying for the 3-4 months of summer. The only issue is that if individuals wait until the end of summer, they are at the mercy of whatever team has room. If our teams fill, which is a possibility, then they will not be able to be placed until we have enough members to start a new team. The people who wait until after summer also miss out on team bonding events and team bbqs. They don't establish that trust with the other girls on the team and that takes time to get in place. If someone joins after choregraphy is done for the teams, then they have to earn a spot on a higher level team. Thus, a girl who joins in November and has a full will still be placed on the level 2 or 3 teams. Once the competition season is in full swing, then we have the option to move her up once we feel she is committed. At the end of the day, we understand that some people want the summer off to recharge their batteries, but at the same time we are also committed to our athletes who push through the summer.
We never cut off kids joining. They can join all season long. They still have to pay the same fees the other kids have they just have less time to pay for everything. Then I determine when they are ready to be placed into a routine. It is a disadvantage to kids to wait or join late, they miss all the bonding and skill growth the kids who join at the start of the season get to do.
