Pretty rude and insensitive to bring the special needs teams into this discussion.  If you read through the posts nobody said small gyms can't produce high quality teams, it said that too many don't.  It is you who isn't getting it.  There is nothing wrong with trying to better our sport by upping the quality.  All of this was in response to someone's opinion about why so many gyms are closing.  It's fairly easy to figure out (not rocket science).

I did not mean to be rude or insensitive to the special needs teams......I love them, I feel that those who take the time to teach them are wonderful people!!!  They are giving them the chance to do something that most would never try.  What the other poster was saying was he/she was tired of seeing those who do not have a chance to win on stage.....the small gyms that are merging, the owners just do not want to close, I get that....BUT do NOT put down the small gyms that are working just as hard as the larg gyms to bring good teams to the floor even if they do not win! I get why they are merging.......it's not to "up the quality", it's to still be in the game and go to the worlds....... for some!

For everyone who is on the band wagon of "large gyms" did they all start off large or did it take time for them to get the number of athletes they currently have. I think the latter. There is nothing wrong with a small gym as all gyms have been there at one time or another. It all comes down to coaching and what each parent/athlete wants out of a program. Not everyone feels that if they do not reach world's they didn't have a successful season.

To my fellow "small gyms" keep shining, see you all at comp and we hope that EVERYONE has a wonderful 08/09 season!smile

Agree, it is not always about taking a team to Worlds.  But it should be about producing competitive teams and so I hope while gyms are making sure everybody cheers (which families can do in youth programs for a lot cheaper), it should also be about bringing teams to competitions that have a chance to win, not just participate.  We just see too many teams in various divisions that are performing on stage and participating, but are nowhere close to having a winning chance, and that is what I personally would love to see less of.   I feel confident the quality of teams will be higher this season with some of these merges, in combination with the smaller gyms who ALWAYS produce high quality teams.

it should also be about bringing teams to competitions that have a chance to win, not just participate.  Winning is Not everything!  OMG, you just do NOT get it. Yes, I would LOVE for every team to win, BUT you must lose in order to learn how to pick your self up and keep trying. To participate is the ONLY why you will know how they will do!   We just see too many teams in various divisions that are performing on stage and participating, but are nowhere close to having a winning chance, and that is what I personally would love to see less of. So then you better kick out the special needs teams too!  Who do you think you are?  Are you a gym owner? Or a parent?  If youre a parent, I pity you!    I feel confident the quality of teams will be higher this season with some of these merges, in combination with the it should also be about bringing teams to competitions that have a chance to win, not just participate. smaller gyms who ALWAYS produce high quality teams. So now you have changed your mind..NOW you feel that smaller gyms produce quality teams.  Hmmmm. Yet, they will NOT have a chance to win. Please who are you kidding, you keep telling your self that being in a BIG gym is better, sure it is.more coaches, more kids, kids, bigger headachesect..OH YA, a chance to go to the WORLDS..  Youre a BIG GYM SNOB!  LOL!  Good Luck in your big gym and us little gyms will try and produce HIGH quality teams!!!!! biggrin

oh wow!  way to go, they are getting on my last nerve.  They do talk out both sides of their mouth.

I can see it now all the gyms start merging and before you know it there is hardly anyone to compete against.  Small gyms are your competition.  Our main goal is plain and simple.  We are out to beat you.  We will remember how concerned you where for us next time we meet up at an awards ceromony as we are go up on stage to accept our first place trophy!!!!  Yeah lets here it for all the small gyms.  Can't wait to see you all in the upcoming 08-09 cheer season.

Throughout the country?  Probably so.  Here in California?  I don't think so.  Can you name more than two or three gyms (under 100 members) here in California that sent a team to Worlds?   I would love to see more small gyms unite.  We will see what happens this season.

Airborne, Cal flyer and Supreme

Those three teams should have saved their money!

No, honestly, they went to World's because they got a bid.  And who are you to say a thing.  If your a coach or owner your all about money.  And if your a parent, your clueless.

Way to go Supreme, Cal Flyer and Airborne, you got a bid and your deserved to go.

"Those teams, should have saved their money"........YOUR a Duma$$....... IF your a small gym(100 and under) and you won a bid to the worlds.....THAN YES go to the worlds.....I am sooo proud of the gyms from CA that can go to the worlds no matter how big or small.  I'm telling you, those gyms that have merged...lets see how well they get along in the next year or two!  I know of two big gyms back east that merged and after one year, and they made it to the worlds, are no more!!!!  They have once again parted.

I wish those who have merged a lot of luck.  Your going to need it. Those gyms who can make it another year....keep dreaming and for those who think they are better than everyone....I hope your humbled.

Getting hard to breathe at Worlds!!! I'm drowning in mediocrity

I think many will agree that to qualify for Worlds, teams should have to get a certain minimum score based on specific criteria.  Simply beating the other teams at a less traveled comp that happens to give out bids isn't really earning a bid.  Not taking away from teams that get to Worlds that way, but if we are to assume that the teams at Worlds are the best teams in the world then they should all have earned their positions there in a similar manner.  You don't get to the Olympics by winning a meet, but by making a minimum qualifying time in your event.  I think it cheapens the event to give out bids like a pass/fail in P.E. class.  Y'all want all-star cheer to be taken more seriously??? Then start by taking it seriously yourselves.

RE: levels for next year ?

Regarding why gyms are closing, were any of the closed gyms mentioned large gyms?   Lets face it, we can count the small gyms who are REAL competitors on one hand most seasons (if you don't believe me take a look at past posts on this board and previous results from competitions).   Personally I would LOVE it if that were NOT the case this season, who doesn't love competition???   It's nice to see some fire in these comments, hope we see it on the floor too.

In a nut shell, what is the Parent Action Committee?  When I was reading the thread, I was concerned this was coming from the USASF.   Is that true?confused
