Quick Question: Does everyone consider pace's win at worlds the first gold for cali?weirdface

I saw the video and they were a mess but they did bring home a 1st place globe! Even though they didnt compete against anyone! hmm

confused

well technically it was a gold since they got first... but they didnt beat anyone... and it was pace phoenix, they are from ARIZONA so no i would not consider it the first gold for cali... LOL

Pace did bring home a gold for Arizona, not California.  Also, Pace Empire not even the size of ca or cf brought home a silver in level 6.  cf didn't even make it to finals with two of their teams.  so don't even go there.  ca stacked the teams from all of california and couldn't even bring home a gold.  Arizona is also small in comparison to these big california teams( with all their hype and money) and look at the arizona extreme team (wow).  cf and ca's staff was too busy warring.  So with the small gyms, look out.  And by the way, it's a new season and we will see what happens with these small gyms that aren't caught up in all the drama.

not caught up in all the drama!?!?... LOL you just started drama... and YES LETS GO THERE... california all stars Got 3 silvers... true not gold but every team got 2nd... IN MUCH TOUGHER DIVISIONS THAN OPEN 6... for one allgirl had no competition and two coed was against one good team... the only powerhouse gym in that division BEAT THEM (Stingray)... third was china... CA international was in the open division with the most competition and beat many power house gyms including top gun... but its ok we will see how this year goes...

Why do you always have to post like a complete imature jerk. It is so hard to believe that TITAN ELITE actually lets you out on the floor with children. Although I agree with your opinion on the above post you need to GROW UP.

Bottom line is the smaller gyms who are not part of a larger gym are struggling and eventually folding.  The larger gyms have more members (so they can field stronger teams), can sometimes charge less per member since there are more of them, and they have strong coaches.  Typically they are gyms who have sent teams to Worlds and know what it takes to be competitive.  Let's face it, it's too expensive of a sport to go to a gym that is just a small step above youth cheerleading (we've been there).   Of course not all small gyms fit into this category, but most do based on what I have seen at competitions throughout the years.   This is just my take on it.

Right, do you just like to talk to hear yourself.  Well good for you, but obviously you don't get it.

Perhaps you're the one who talks just for the sake of talking.  Learn to respect the opinions of others.  The poster said it was THEIR take on it.

Enough already with the sarcasm and ridicule.  To each his own!

NOT all small gyms are folding! Nor are they merging with larger gyms...... and what do you consider a small gym?

Well if you stop and think about it most of the gyms here in Northern Caifornia would be considered small.  Power, Cheergyms, NCE, etc., etc.  I don't think this theory holds true.  Now you have gyms merging or combining forces to help field teams that can compete for worlds.  Numbers wise they really have not grown that much more.  I think as big as cheer has gotten it is still got some catching up here.  Alot of kids choose to cheer on High School squads when they reach 14 and 15 so gyms loose quite a few.  Blame it on the ecomony, cheer is expensive.  Blame it on to many gyms in a specific area with to many gyms competing for a limited number of kids who do All Stars.

If you look at what gyms have not succeeded over the years, they are small gyms (60 or less members).   Large gyms or small gyms who are part of a large gym (Motions, for example) have succeeded.  Here in Northern CA it seems our definition of a large gym is around 100+  members, which is not the definition in other parts of the country.   Do you know of any large gyms  (100+ members) here in Northern California that has folded  in the past five years?  I can't think of one.   Strength in numbers.

I wanted to throw in an example of a small gym (unless I'm mistaken) who has managed to be very successful and continues to grow, and that is Airborne.   I think it's fantastic they sent a team to Worlds.  Maybe they have 100+ members but I don't think so.  So you can look at a successful small gym like Airborne and wonder what makes them successful when so many other small gyms are folding.   Prime location?  Talent that walks in the door?  Great coaching?  So I am not saying that small gyms can't continue to grow and thrive and be truly competitive, what I am saying is that there are way too many small gyms who go the other direction, maybe because like the other post said, there are way too many gyms.

There are many more amazing small gyms that are successful.  Ones that have sent teams to World's, we will see many of them next year at World's.

Throughout the country?  Probably so.  Here in California?  I don't think so.  Can you name more than two or three gyms (under 100 members) here in California that sent a team to Worlds?   I would love to see more small gyms unite.  We will see what happens this season.

You forget...It's NOT all about the worlds for some gyms or the kids. For our "small" gym,  it's about the kids and teaching them about cheer.  Sure,  our gym would LOVE to take a team to the worlds......BUT if not then we keep doing what we are doing and that is making sure everyone gets to cheer if that's what they LOVE to do.  OUR gym is in Northern CA and we have about 60 to 70 kids. We have NO L5 and we are JUSt fine!  So the large gyms....hey for you to the small gyms.....keep going!biggrin

Agree, it is not always about taking a team to Worlds.  But it should be about producing competitive teams and so I hope while gyms are making sure everybody cheers (which families can do in youth programs for a lot cheaper), it should also be about bringing teams to competitions that have a chance to win, not just participate.  We just see too many teams in various divisions that are performing on stage and participating, but are nowhere close to having a winning chance, and that is what I personally would love to see less of.   I feel confident the quality of teams will be higher this season with some of these merges, in combination with the smaller gyms who ALWAYS produce high quality teams.

I know I'm going to get bashed for saying this but I don't really care that much about all the hoopla surrounding level five teams.  Hey I think it's wonderful for the gyms here in northern California that took teams to Worlds, and sounds like everyone did great.  Congratulations to Motions for making it to the finals.  It's an awesome accomplishment and you should feel very proud.  My issue is that it's not all about level five.  There are more kids out there on lower level teams that work just as hard and that will never be part of a level 5 team.  Some of these kids making a level 3 or 4 team is just as great of an accomplishment.  I also feel that you don't have to be with bigger gym to have winning teams.  I assure you that working hard with the goal of winning is just as important in a smaller gym.  Hey it sometimes can be discouraging going against some of the larger teams.  But heck when you do defeat them the victory is even sweeter.  Last year everyones numbers where down, and I noticed that a lot of the so called smaller gyms where doing just fine.  The reason I liked coming on to this board is because unlike Pro X where sorry they are a bit snobbish.  I like learning about what was going on locally in cheer.   Lately I keep reading about this gym merging with this gym, and so on so they can increase there talent pool and stand a better chance of building stronger level five teams.  Good luck to you, but I think we we stay where we are at for now.  My kids happy she is gaining skills and confidence and so our her team mates.  So watch out for all us little guys next season.  While your busy merging we will be working even harder to give you a run for your money.  Cus we like winning to!

If all the small gyms have your competitive spirit, it should be a fun and exciting season.

We are a small gym in Southern California and aren't merging and wow, couldn't have said it better.  Our numbers are up this season. See you at comp!

it should also be about bringing teams to competitions that have a chance to win, not just participate.  Winning is Not everything!  OMG, you just do NOT get it. Yes, I would LOVE for every team to win, BUT you must lose in order to learn how to pick your self up and keep trying. To participate is the ONLY why you will know how they will do!   We just see too many teams in various divisions that are performing on stage and participating, but are nowhere close to having a winning chance, and that is what I personally would love to see less of. So then you better kick out the special needs teams too!  Who do you think you are?  Are you a gym owner? Or a parent?  If youre a parent, I pity you!    I feel confident the quality of teams will be higher this season with some of these merges, in combination with the it should also be about bringing teams to competitions that have a chance to win, not just participate. smaller gyms who ALWAYS produce high quality teams. So now you have changed your mind..NOW you feel that smaller gyms produce quality teams.  Hmmmm. Yet, they will NOT have a chance to win. Please who are you kidding, you keep telling your self that being in a BIG gym is better, sure it is.more coaches, more kids, kids, bigger headachesect..OH YA, a chance to go to the WORLDS..  Youre a BIG GYM SNOB!  LOL!  Good Luck in your big gym and us little gyms will try and produce HIGH quality teams!!!!! biggrin

Pretty rude and insensitive to bring the special needs teams into this discussion.  If you read through the posts nobody said small gyms can't produce high quality teams, it said that too many don't.  It is you who isn't getting it.  There is nothing wrong with trying to better our sport by upping the quality.  All of this was in response to someone's opinion about why so many gyms are closing.  It's fairly easy to figure out (not rocket science).
