RE: Abuse by coaches

There is not only abuse by coaches, there is abuse from parents to coaches and cheerleaders to coaches. I am a parent that has seen this first hand. I think this thread should be closed if it is only directed to be a subject about "abuse by coaches"...

I, as a parent feel sorry for some of these coaches who have to contend with these parents. I have witnessed the parents who think their daughter should be this or that, or the cheerleader who disrupts team practices by crap talking and talking back to their coaches.

This is a never ending subject that can only bring lots of negativity. Let's focus on the positive these coaches bring our children, the time, the patience, the love and the dedication.

I give kudo's to these coaches, I also give kudo's to the parents that are supportive, that teach their child to congratulate other gyms and cheerleaders on a job well done...even if their daughter didn't win, the parents who put goody bags together for teams, the parents who commute 50 plus miles one way to take their child to practice.

Does anyone want to add any positive to this thread? smilebiggrinawwwinkidea

smileThis thread is not meant to be negative. It is for parents to know who is teaching thier children, and to make an informed decision. Remember that cheerleading is a business. They are paid to teach our children. We should expect the very best from the coaches and the staff, just like we would from their teachers anywhere else.

What about the coach who blames one cheerleader for the placement of the team? Then the rest of the team believes it and blames the same cheerleader....

This happened to a team I know last year at worlds. She ate a tumbling skill and the coach blamed her for their score...she was one of the best cheerleaders on the team....others got mad at her too....luckily, she and her mom were smart enough to find another team- where she found a great deal of success!!!!

Is that what she told you?  Or did she feel responsible and say that they blamed her?  Just the facts, please.

Oh Yes so many times they say that the coach was mean to them and that they yelled at them and it never happened.  I have noticed that kids now a days if you correct an athlete they turn it around that you yelled at them and embarrassed them--and they act like everything is ok but get in the car, start crying and making up stories , next thing you know you are on the phone with a lame parent till 11 p.m. trying to convince them that you didn't do anything wrong.  They say things like " are you calling my child a liar".  Some of these kids are such spoiled bratsbleh

What is so ridiculous about warning parents about danger signs of possible abuse???  It is one thing for a coach to share some correctful criticism with an athlete after a rough performance, but to demean, ridicule or swear at an athlete, and especially in front of fellow team members, most certainly is abuse.  I do not know one cheerleader that doesn't beat themselves up after a rough go and being reminded of it in a brutal way only leaves them feeling even worse about the situation, as well as worse about themselves personally.

So many times the kids beat themselves up and then the parents think the coach did something.  A lot of time kids just put pressure on themselves and know they didn't do their best and that they made errors.  But the parents will put it on the coach.  It is a coaches responsiblity to tell their team after they came off the floor what happened in the routine - good and bad.  I am not talking putting anyone down but just tell the team what happened.  This way at awards they know what to expect.

I know of several large programs that tell girls to watch what they eat-that they won't re-order them a new uniform till they get toned, there are ones that tell kids to tan (think that one is evil to the fair skinned kid that burns), I was floored this year when I heard about a program (in So. Cal) that told some of their flat chested girls to purchase fake boob's the gel kind and put in their bra (not lying about this one)-if you think real hard who has the bro-ho look you will figure it out.  What are we teaching these kids!?  What is this sport coming to.

Add it to your cheer bill $50.00 for a spray tan. $6000.00 fake boobs or a bargain $25.00 gel inserts LOL!!!
