Competition Refunds

Is it true competion companies give gyms refunds?

If so, what does gyms do with those refunds being that the parents paid the money and not the gym owners?

Wowser! I know that some gyms apply to the replacment competition's fees.  Others (hopefully not as may as I think)...

Stick it right in their big fat pocket and keep it pushin. LOL

Refunds as in you pay up front  the initial cost of bringing your 12 teams to XYZ company and on the back end refunding the gym a certain amount.

I just heard this through the rumor mill (darn parents always gossiping and really never have the information correct).  And if this is the case, was wondering what the gym owner's did with that refund?

Parents WAKE up !!! This is a business. Your gym owners are not in it to make your day better. They are in it because this is their livelihood. If any kick back is given, it is given to they gym and not the PARENT. It increases thier profit if there is any profit.

Also, don't be naive to think that the price that you are quoted is the price that the gym pays. It is highly inflated. Just like the insurance fees, registration fees, etc.

People are in this to make money.

give me a freaking break!!! just because your gym owner has a mercedz so what, do you think they dont work another job to pay for nice things.  I am so sick of parents sitting around talking about what the gym owners have etc.  I am a parent, my coach owner has a wonderful house and nice cars.  its their money. it is none of our business what they drive or where they live, where they shop or how they spend their money.  you have to be naiive if you think they dont work other jobs and they use the kick back they get to get them a freaking car. and if they did???? ok its a business. all stars is a business not a rec sport and they are supposed to make money.
you pay your bill and as long as you get what you pay for then it is none of our business. PERIOD.  we all knopw that gyms have fees well over the competition price.  no matter what they call it.. competition fee, coaches fee, overhead travel etc.... you are paying extra somehow.  they are supposed to make money.  my goodness.  you dont know thier finacial status.  There is a thing as good credit, leases and gifts.  you have no idea how they got their mercedes. you have the right to drive what ever car you want and pay for it how you wish, they have the right to do the same.
lets just say this, if you dont like that your owner has a mercedes...... then dont stay at that gym go to another where the coach drives a hooptie if that will make you feel better
give me a break

Yes, it shouldn't matter what the coach drives UNLESS and I will say UNLESS that business is set up as a profitable business.  I do know a gym that is not for profit and the coach has received many luxuries out of it.  A mercedes, condo, etc.  Non-profit clubs need to show their books to their customers and justify their "perks".  In addition, they also need to notify the same customers when they are unable to make rent or pay their utilities.  If they can't make the rent then it's time to sell the mercedes.

it's also quite comicial to see a private tumbling coach drive up to it's own tumbling gym in a hooptie during the evening hours and then see the same person drive throughout town during the day in a convertible two seater BMW.  Oh the games a business owner must play to make sure the parents don't know the real story.

I would much rather be part of a program that's prospering than one that's barely making ends meet and on the brink of closing year to year.  I love our gym owners and hope and pray that they are doing well financially.  They are honest and up front about the program costs at the beginning of the year, the costs are in the contract, and the costs are reasonable.  If they are doing well, then that means they are being responsible with their finances.  Our owners can pay for quality coaches, our gym is not in danger of being shut down or bought out for financial reasons, and there is less chance that they will be burned out year to year by trying to make ends meet.  They don't drive a Mercedes, but thankfully they have a nice car that is reliable and that gets them to competitions safely.  They are usually transporting coaches and sometimes cheerleaders who need a ride, so I am thankful for that.  They are not cheating the families out of anything.  They are honest people who deserve to earn an honest living.  They don't have time for other jobs, as they are at the gym 6+ days a week, usually working more than 50 hours a week.

uhhhhh, you may want to check into this.  There are certain rules and requirement a not-for-profit must follow.  There must be a summary budget sheet at the not-for-profit site.  In additon, they must also have regularly schedule nominations for board members and post those duty statements someplace as well.  Voting must take place for purchases and special events, they also must let the membership know what type of money is being raised during fundraisers.  I understand there are websites available that will show you the not-for-profit tax statements each year as well.

Wow! Nope, nothing like that going on there.  Their really secretive with the money.  Even fundraised money. You don't always get to know where all of the money is going. As far as a board is concerened, are you talking about a board that consists of parents?  They dont want parents chiming in on how they run their business.

I won't give the name of the gym because I don't think it would be right to "out" them on this board.  But I will say that any parent who goes there will know EXACTLY which gym it is and the gym owners will know that I am talking about them.  They've lost lots of families over the seasons and that's before anyone confirmed how crooked they do busines.  This makes me angry!!!

That's too bad you won't name them. If they truly are running a non profit business then is a matter of public record and if they are not running it according to the laws governing non profits then someone needs to know as they are abusing it unfairly and unlawfully!  Staying silent is what allows crooks to keep stealingfurious

Yes, someone needs to start an investigation.  Perhaps you can call your local tv station, they all have investigating reporters that look for the unjust and can get to the bottom of the situation.

The board is an elected board.  A president, vice president, treasurer, and what ever need  to be nominated by the collection of members (parents) and once a year an election needs to take place.  If that's not happening then that's were corruption could start and the books are concealed and only the members lose in the end.  Not-for-profit companies have to work that much harder to play by the rules and if their aren't someone needs to blow the whistle.
