They should in investigate the CHEERMOMS from HeLL

Now that would pull in the ratings...that would be great...but that wouldn't be fair to cheer they should do a follow up with the BASEBALL DADS from Hell.  I thought cheer moms where the worst till my son did a certain league last year....so much worse.biggrin

Definitely agree about the flyer vest, looks like a great item to have in any gym. Can someone please post where to find all of these items?

One of the flyer's mom's saw the show and now wants to get a vest.  I think the injury was a freak thing.  I have seen teeth get knocked out in cheer but nobody walks around with mouth guards in-there are risk in cheer-but for the most part there is lots of safety in just what we do-I think some of these devices could do more harm-what if the girl had in a mouth piece and choked-that would be real scary-or if she yelled "stead" to her flyer and the flyer thought she said "ready"-lots to think aboutsmile.

Agreed! I've been coaching for a long time and never seen any injuries like that on this show. Alot of it has to do with conditioning and teaching proper technique. In America we have the habit of showing the absolute WORSE case scenario and use that as the "example" of what it is, which usually isn't the case. You should take precuations and use safety measures, but that shouldn't replace reponsiblity and technique.

It's interesting that they always highlight the catastrophic injuries in cheerleading as the highest among female athletes, however, they never, ever compare it to the rate of male football injuries, which is by far the most dangerous youth sport.  Because football is the revered all-American sport, they never bring those skeletons out of the closet.

I had a feeling that would happen; paranoid moms would start insisting their little flyers wear these vests.  Of course all the flyers on that team would have to wear them so nobody stands out.  Just how much are these anyway, anybody know?

I'm a base and I actually did wear a mouth gaurd for one season when I had a flyer who had a hard time learning to full down (and then later in the season double down) without sticking her elbows out. I had gotten several busted lips and when my tooth finally when through my lip i decided I should wear a mouth guard the rest of the season. It worked, but I didn't need to continue with it the next few years. I would recommend it to any one else who may feel like their mouth is an elbow magnet. But I too think the chest thing is unnecessary..the incident was tragic but also incredibly unlikely.

Okay so I am watching it now... I only cought the end when it debuted! OMG  I am totally annoyed! I fell if these girls had good qualified coaches these major problems wouldn't happen... It is not our fault that high schools are hiring the science teacher to coach the team. I think for the most part Allstar gyms have good qualified coaches and the gyms take pride in saying they do. Of course there are always going to be minor injuries... i think i just need to stop watching. yea its driving me insane! Cheer uniforms should NEVER inculde pants!!! unless your a boy! Im so annoyed currently!
