How many kids for each location? Guess we'll find out when teams are posted.
not sure but over 550 for three locations is an average of 183 per gym which is pretty darn good considering its just the initial tryouts! Gyms always pick up a bunch of kids over the summer and again in the fall so just very excited to be a part of the CA family now. I was thinking about at competitions if they have say 600+ kids and each kid brings just one family member to support the CA teams omg that would be over 1200 CA fans at one comp!!!
well i heard there was about 160 at carmillio there was about 250 at san marcos which means there would have been around 140 at san diego these are all guesses
I have found in the past that numbers usually drop off through summer and the fall for whatever reasons. Some kids come to tryouts to check the gym out, get put a team and nerver show up.

yes that does happen but normally the number of kids that dont return after tryouts is matched or increased by the numer of kids who come during the summer/fall

OMG congrats - but I am hoping that CA doesn't plan on bring every team to every competition at once this year. It 's overwhelming for a medium sized program like ours to attend competitions where one program has a team in nearly every division. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad your program is flourishing and wish you well. But at the same time, I hate it when one program dominates entirely, especially when it comes to spectator seating. We all want to watch our teams compete, but when a huge crowd from one program comes in, they take up all the good seating and save seats for all of their crowd while the smaller programs are relegated to the outskirts of seating. Sort of like they are entitled.
Also, question: do you feel that competition companies show favoritism to the larger programs so that those programs will keep coming back and spending big $$ on competition fees? (this is in no way against CA - just a general question about bigger programs) Where I sometimes see this might happen is in the younger and/or lower level divisions where some of these teams are up against a mega program with a team in nearly every division and may have a great level 5 team(5) there. While their level 5 team usually deserves the top prize, I sometimes notice one or more of their lower level teams getting a 1st place when they were clearly outperformed by a program that has maybe just a few teams at that competition. What do you think?

1.)we already got our competition schedule and as far as i know all of bullets gyms will be at every competition together however their is one where the level 5 teams wont be and everyone else will and then of course level 5 will be at worlds and no one else will be there with them.
2.)i do think that big powerhouse gyms can walk in and dominate competitions because of their names at some competitions. jamz and american championships are the two competitions that come to mind when i think of powerhouses being favored.
My question is to all parents...How do you feel about all the hours and money spent on cheer for maybe a total of 23 min of actual competition time
Wow! Is it really only about the "competition time"? Really? I don't believe it's the case for the kids that are enrolled in the all-star gym in my area. it's about the friendships, it's about coming to a safe environment to work out with kids their ages to achieve a certain goal. I'm sorry but their is so much more than the competition time.
high school sports offer everything listed above but the PRICE
"Well I tried High School Cheer for my daughter and the price was much more up front than allstars. And she just isn't about the cheer for just the other sports, she loves competition and having a real sport."
The sad fact is that many of the high schools are doing away with the competitive aspect of cheerleading as they feel it takes away from supporting the school sports programs. If you like the competitive aspect of cheer, all star is the way to go. If you like the crowd leading/team support aspect of cheer, then high school cheer would be better and costs a bit less. However, high school cheer costs can rival all star if your team travels to competitions.
My daughter is doing both highschool cheer and all stars this season. Surprisingly, the cost for highschool after all is done which includes only 2 competitions and a Nationals is costing us close to $3500.00 and the All star gym she is at the total cost including nationals is $2500.00
so highschool is not nec. cheaper than all stars. I think it appears that way because, you pay for things differently. They give you the cost for the cheer year which is about $1000.00 but then you have to pay for competitions etc if you compete. The above price doesn't include the price we have to pay to go to football games every weekend and 2 or 3 times throughout the week for basketball.
The economy is really bad, but if you can afford to keep your kid in all stars if that is what they love to do.... Then don't count on hs cheer being any cheaper in most cases. I personally will make whatever sacrafices have to be nmde to keep my daughter involved in her sport and doing something she loves.
I also dont expect the cheer gyms and owners to suffer because our goverment has messed up our economy. I dont think its fair to ask them to cut corners on things they cant cut corners on in order to have a good program.
I sit back often and think this is only temporary and I def. want my gym to be around when this is all over. We are all suffering with high gas prices, cost of food and the cost of living. Together with our gym owners and cheer orginizations we can come up with ways to keep our sport heading in the right direction. Keep giving positives ideas and voicing our concerns to the big money makers who can cut some of the cost down.
These hosting cheer orginizations can choose less expensive place to host competitions, like vegas.... Fun comp but way too expensive. Lower comp fees and offer less competitions so that comps are full with tons of teams instead of 1 or 2 in each division. Get back to comps with 7 or more teams. Then the entry fee wont be so high. Allow parents to video tape and take their own pictures. Just for a while so we can get through this crunch and when the economy is headed in the right direction.... do what you need to. But its so frustrating as a parent to be penny pinching and budgeting and you afford to purchase a memory of your childs performance.
Cheer gym owners should really look at competiting locally this season. It doesnt have to always stay like this , but show your parents you appreciate their business and concerns over the economy and help cut the cost down on over night trips and too far comps. The gym I am at is competiting in sac at almost every comp and only doing Nationals as an over night trip. We parents were thrilled. See its not about the monthly fees, its about everything in between. You can lower your monthly fees, but if we are still shelling out big bucks for hotel stays and too many comps in a season with cost of gas and entry fees. Then those low monthly fees means nothing. Cut out the buddy program where you have to buy gifts. Teach the children in your program to make cards or write a special note to their buddy. Have them partner up at comps etc... Its not about the gifts they get. Better yet incorporatethe buddy thing in the gym instaed of comps, so that when you have special events they pair up. To either share the cost of a food they have to bring or special days like twin day. Fun stuff like that.
Parents, we can do our part too. car pool and save on gas. Limit your children to getting something special only at nationals. they dont need every tshirt. Wait until after a few comps if you cant video tape and order the best one. Same with pictures. Pack your own food. The food at venues are not good for our athletes anyways. Share suites with other family you are close with on away trips. Teach your children the value of money, help them understand that every part of cheer cost money (dont make them feel guilty), but this worked with my daughter. She knows how to budget her money for comps. You dont have to have the $6 smoothie. sure its a treat but.... its never too early to teach our children how to budget.
Together we all can get through this economical struggle if every one is fair and respectful of each other. OUR SPORT AND OUR GYMS CAN SURVIVE... I KNOW I DONT WANT MY DAUGHTERS GYM TO CLOSE, SO I ENCOURAGE THEM TO KEEP STRONG THROUGH ALL OF THIS

Worth every second of it to see my child, who's shy, freezes when someone asks her a question and says nothing, out there having a BLAST. WORTH IT FOR ME because I get to see a different side of her.
I had a dog name REX that acted the same way
Cheer mom ignore this stupid-I agree with you 100%. It is probubly one of the diva cheer boys again being mouthy!
