RE: ECONOMY AND CHEER

I felt the pressure of the start up fees too.  I went to the gym owner and asked about breaking down the start of fees into monthly payments throughout the season and they were willing.  There are several gyms who are doing it this way this season (thank goodness and thank you!).  If yours isnt doing it this way for you maybe you can ask if they can work something out with you. smile

Cali Camarillo is in the middle of an amazing tryout with an even more amazin turn out

interesting question I too was wondering how the economy would effect the turn out at tryouts this season but when I couldnt get into the parking lot at the CA Camarillo gym (and it was just the 9-14yr old tryout time) I was blown away and pleasantly surprised!!! Guess we will do what it takes to let our kids cheer even if we have to count change to pay for it!biggrin

You know what's funny about this ? I just looked at a satilite picture of your parking lot and it only has 22 spaces.

All I have to say about this is OMG - get a life! Your looking at Sattelite pictures to refute a post about someone's surprise at how full the parking lot is. What is your point? That they didnt have a lot of people at try-outs because you claim they only have 22 spaces! MY GOODNESS! I'm at a loss for words at how petty that really is. GOOD LUCK to all of the gyms for a good turn out... I hope you all have a successul year.

oh wow I'm the one that posted about not getting into the parking lot and it's got someone looking at sattelite pics?!?! I was making a statement that I too was curious how the economy was going to effect the tryouts not only at the CA gym but for ALL gyms across America my point was that apparently my worry about the effect of the economy was pleasantly dimissed when I couldnt get into the parking lot at tryouts! I've never checked the sattelite picture of the gym's parking lot but I can guarentee you I coudln't get into it and had to go into the lot of a building 3 doors down to park. It's good news for our sport of cheer that a gyms turnout was so good, sorry you're making drama out of it, it is what it is. Maybe at the next tryout you can come direct traffic with one of those hand held counter clicker thingy miggies and report back your stats.

My question is to all parents...How do you feel about all the hours and money spent on cheer for maybe a total of 23 min of actual competition timeconfused

Wow!  Is it really only about the "competition time"?  Really?  I don't believe it's the case for the kids that are enrolled in the all-star gym in my area.  it's about the friendships, it's about coming to a safe environment to work out with kids their ages to achieve a certain goal.  I'm sorry but their is so much more than the competition time.

Worth every second of it to see my child, who's shy, freezes when someone asks her a question and says nothing, out there having a BLAST.  WORTH IT FOR ME because I get to see a different side of her.

My daughter tried out this year.  Depending on the competition schedule and and what my monthly fees are going to be for the year will depend on whether she will continue.  The fees the gyms are collecting are getting way out of hand.

Our comp fees are actually 100 bucks less this season because of this alliance thing.

So we've many discussions about how the economy will effect allstar business. For those who have already had tryouts, are in the middle of it or just have info from friends and family - how have turnouts been?  Bigger than expected?  Unaffected? Difficult?

Affect is the correct term to use.

It's what you do in those 23 minutes that makes it all worth it.   Kind of like the Kentucky Derby ... those races are probably less than 2 minutes, but look at all the money and training that is put into each race.  Maybe that was not a good example to use, but you get my point.
