so i know there was a thread that asked for your favorite part of the season. but i didnt want to look for it. and with all the negative posts i wanted to say sumtin at least a lil nice. i wanted to say this video was my favorite part of the season. but THEE best part of all of it starts at 2:46. its one thing to know you hit a perfect routine, but when the same faces that drove your body into the ground 5 nights a week, for hours a day. closing the hot gym doors in 95 degree weather on a saturday when everyone else is at the beach. it was my favorite part of the season when those faces jumped over the coaches box in tears and picked us up in tears of satisfaction and fulfillment for us giving them the ride of their life with that performance, and doing that made everything perfect
http://youtube.com/watch?v=2Jg-gA4XMTc
these were the same faces that we wanted to beat to the ground when they said line it back up to the top while ppl were throwing up outside the gym doors at 10 at night. the same faces that conditioned us saturday night at worlds for being late to a meeting. the same faces that ran 5 miles to the gym from their house to prove a point about working hard. the same faces that taught us that hard work makes miracles happen. the same faces that went miles, hours, and thousands of dollars out of their way for us to do what WE love. these were the same faces that made it worth putting a year of life on hold for a cheerleading team. and i'm not joking when i say putting it on hold. the miles we moved, the meals we missed, and the work we put in all was worth that two minutes and thirty seconds on that floor with the reaction we got from those faces. so i just wanted to say thank you to those faces:
Jeff Mcqueen, Shawn Miller, Tannaz Collier, Burt johnson, and Just Chris
and like shawn said, anything can happen with nothing but hard work and he and all of them are prime examples of it.

KISS AsS
????
There is really no need to wonder about the ???? and lets not assume it came from a rival gym because that is the reason for the ???? JUST TO START THE NEGATIVE POST'S AGAIN.
Quotes from Alex: "when the same faces that drove your body into the ground 5 nights a week, for hours a day."
"these were the same faces that we wanted to beat to the ground when they said line it back up to the top while ppl were throwing up outside the gym doors at 10 at night."
"putting a year of life on hold for a cheerleading team. and Im not joking when I say putting it on hold. the miles we moved, the meals we missed, and the work we put in"
I'm sure these are heartfelt words from Alex, yet as a parent I have a question. I'm not ignorant nor naive to think our kids don't have to work hard at something to be good or win, but how far does it have to go? According to Alex, this was worth it to him to see the joy on his coaches' faces.
Another quote: "the same faces that went miles, hours, and thousands of dollars out of their way for us to do what WE love."
This is a business, and that's what we pay the owners and coaches to do. How far they take it is their choice. I'm sure that "thousands of dollars" came from someone in the gym paying their bill.
I'm not trying to take away from Alex's post, but he brought up some interesting points, without probably even realizing it!
Sorry Alex I dont mean to hijack your wonderful post but one of your statements made me think of something I was discussing with another cheer parent the other day.
After noticing all the cheerleaders at worlds walking around with knee , ankle ,wrist , wraps ETC... I got to thinking
I am 40 ish and I have arthritis in my back as well as a bad knee. I did not participate in such a physically demanding sport such as allstar cheer although I was a cheerleader. I was wondering how will all these cheerleaders feel when they are my age after all the pounding their bodies take from tumbling.
Of coarse this would apply to any physically demanding sport but I am only interested in the all star aspect of it.
Thanks for listening to my thoughts and one more time sorry Alex for the hijack
I understand what you're saying. When I read the post I thought, My goodness!" But I also thought, "No wonder they changed in leaps and bounds so quickly." I also see that this young adult Alex seems to redefined his old definition of dedication and what it means to push through. The end result, it seems, was far greater than he ever imagined. Some of us are older (I speak for myself here) and wiser (Def OldCheerMom). But this person has gained some wisdom and may now be further ahead in the game of life because he has learned that it pays to have a strong work ethic. This has been a life experience him (or her). Sometimes we have to let people figure out the rest on their own. We can't deny that some great tools for life have been passed on. Now this person and hopefully many others can decide which road to travel when they get to future forks in the road. Who knows, maybe now that they've all been pushed to the next level they will have the will and determination to continue pushing themselves and won't need quite so much outside "encouragement" from their coaches.
Not disagreeing with you OldCheerMom. Just adding to your observation.
Oldcheermom I think you are completely out of line here. I can say as a cheerleader from a different gym, we all feel the way this kid does. We all practice our booties off. My practices didint go until ten at night but they did go until nine. Sure, kids got sick. I am sure a lot athletes miss meals as well. I can tell you I certainly did. Eating right before practice can contribute a ton to the throwing up during. Also, I would be a little worried if my coaches didnt drive my team and push us as hard as they could. It sounds weird, but the coaches are just as much a part of the team as the athletes. And I think everyone at some point in time wants to beat their coach to the ground especially when they say "one more time" and we have already performed that trick what seems to be a million times. Get over yourself. As a parent you should be mature enough to not bash other gyms.

I agree completely.
As a mom I can understand where Oldcheermom is coming from. 5 nights a week for many hours a night interfears with school and other activities. I understand the need to win but at what cost? I do not want cheerleading to come before grades and other high school commitments. I think this is something the USASF should address as to how many hours a week is appropriate for practice. Congratulations CA on your amazing year but I hope you have not only good athletes but well rounded children at your gym.
