ANONYMOUS BOARDS vs. PROX STYLE

I was wondering how many people visit ProX message boards.  The reason I'm asking is because I've noticed that they seem to have pretty good success with control the level of disrespect paid to gyms and and people. That's not to say it doesn't happen cause they can get down and dirty too. LOL  But, they have quite a few regulars who seem to work with another to keep the boards reasonable.

There also seems to be a high percentage of adults on there.  I'm not sure what our percentage of adults would be since ours is anonymous but we either have a lot of kids or a lot of immature behavior, I feel due to the anonymous postings.

Not too long ago Cheergyms.com required that everyone identify themselves in order to post.  I also remember hearing crickets during that time.  Why do you all think that was? Why can't we identify ourselves and say what we want to say, but with respect, to hold down the backlash.  I like the anonymous status but I'm not so sure it's best anymore.

What are your thoughts?  Anonymous boards?  or Identify yourself some kind of way?  It doesnt have to be your real name.  On ProX they come up with all sorts of ways to identify themselves so that you know who you're talking to or who said what, but they don't give their real name unless they choose to.

Input?

I for one am tired of all the crap talk. The only reason people come here is to talk crap about their rival gyms because they don't have the guts to do it under their user name.
So what if the boards die down i don't care. maybe we will all discover a new hobby or even get some homework, housework,ETC done.

I come on to see what's happening with comps and other programs.  It is a great site.  I don't agree with everything, but then that's life.  We have teams in the southern California area and a coach from another program told me about it.  Like I said, I think it is great!S

It's easy for me to ignore the negative posts that I know are just one or two folks bickering with each other and don't represent the view of their gyms AT ALL.   I like posting without having to log in (okay, I'm lazy).  I like that more will post if they don't have to log in, and they'll feel more comfortable being completely honest with their comments, whether they're negative or positive.  At any given time I think if you took a snapshot of the posts and threads, you'll always find more positive posts than negative.  I like it the way it is, but it's true I'll get more done and will visit the board less if it goes back to having to log in, and maybe that's not a bad thing, lol.

I think the reason why people don't like logging in here is because it's directly related to a gym, it's a smaller board than cheerxs, people believe that Danny is able to spy on them and tell their gym owners that they are posting when they aren't supposed to be.

If you are too lazy to log-in, just click the "remember me" button then you are automatically logged in when you visit.

Based on people's response, being anonymous is best for the board. I think the moderators are doing a fine job of keeping the boards mostly positive. I think we humans just tend to focus on/remember the negative, but I agree with the poster that said the positive posts are more numerous than the negative.

I think each and every board has its purpose. ProX has become almost like the first place to go to address your need for any cheer news. This board is more of a California board, but has people from across the country (like me) chime in because we heard of it via ProX. (Personally I also find i can share my opinion freer here since it is not automatically assumed that I am talking about a competitor, which 9 out of 10 times I am not...a ProX fallacy which is why I don't post there much anymore but read every day) CPBG is a kind of BFF club for cheer parents that grew out out discontent for ProX and the inability for them to just vent and talk without being chastised for taking threads off topic. Cheerfriends is more of a site geared for children although it has impressive sponsorship.icheerspace is a combination MySpace type site with a message board geared more for the smaller gyms, is new that has a lighter moderation than ProX in part to some of the percieved favoritism that was experienced by many on ProX. Then of course you have several states that have their own cheer boards, plus gym message boards, and new message boards being created every day.

Whether a poster can post anonymously or not, every board has it's share of just want to stir up trouble folks who through their negative posting are seeking to destroy and not discuss anytging of true value. The danger is in believing that every negative post has no value. Even if it says in effect, don't trust what I am saying because I am a fool, then it has a purpose. Wise man once said that a fool is known through his much speaking. I am a member of several cheer boards as well as religion boards, education boards, money boards, etc. All have the same dynamic that the original poster states. All have very opinionated people on both sides of any issue. If person A sees person B for something they will automatically be against. All have people who do nothing more than stir up trouble. All have people who either make up false accounts (like ProX) or post anonymously (like here) All have people who stir the pot and sit back and watch everyone else fight it out. All have people who by being friends off screen, affects their conversation and posts on screen. All have people who will privately say one thing but never post it publicly.

Having been a severe critic of ProX due to either lack of moderation or questionable/perceived favoritism in moderation I will be quick to say they have done a whole lot better this year. I give the moderators credit this year for at least trying to validate things that were posted before allowing them to continue or delete if an absolute fabrication. They have added moderators as well. The only they seem to miss now are the inter gym innuendos and swipes that they usually would not know about anyway. Of course now that has made some others mad because they can no longer bomb another program without deletion or not being protected.

To the point, there is no way to absolutely identify everyone unless you really want a dead board or a one sided board where there can be no differences of opinion. if proX crushed all dissent, it too would shut down. Anytime there is an opinion board people want to share. Sometimes it is in very bad taste, sometimes it crosses ethical lines, sometimes it is boorish behavior, but if not directly slanderous, defamation of charector,  harrassment, or any other punishable ofenses we need to allow it, within the lines of each boards TOS of course.

We live in a culture where the majority of people do not want to take responsibility for themselves in anything. They want the thrill of getting away with it. To be able to post anonymously "legally" allows a certain freer discourse to take place by all. If I had something very critical but still true, I could always not log in and post it and no one would know except for the moderators who can track IP addresses. Otherwise you have to create false profiles and after awhile you just might forget who you really are...rofl! If we would remember that once we write it and post it we can never retrieve it and take it back, it may change some of what we post.

tea time!!!
