Now that tryouts have started for most gyms, what do you think the numbers are~How many kids are going to be a part of the various programs? Our gym had about 95 kids last season (we were quite small, being we have only had 2 seasons behind us), now it looks like we're going to have about 175! smile.gif We're growing!! So excited. How is everyone else doing so far?

For our gym not everyone shows up at tryouts so we usually have everyone who will be part of the new season by early to mid-summer.  So it's too early to tell for us.

Our tryouts are this upcoming week, from the sounds of things we will be bigger than we were last season. We continue to recruit throughout the summer so I am keeping my fingers crossed!!! Good luck to everyone!! Hopefully the lousy economy wont affect us all that much!!

What gym are you from? I would like to know what gym in their second season has 175 cheerleaders.   If so good for you!!!.  I know we are struggling to keep our numbers the same and most gyms from what i am hearing are about 1/2 capacity compared to previous years as a result of the economy "Parent just cannot afford it" Also with the rising costs of compeitions and uniforms I project this will be a very slow year for cheerleading unless there is a drastic change in the economy.  I did not see any gym owners actually respond with their numbers and I think this is because they are low and if they announce this of course people will come on here and start DRAMA as they always find a way to do this in an effort to slander their compeititon and make them appear to be not as successfull.  The success is not in numbers it is within the gym itself.

We are with a small gym and we love it.  Yes we tend to loose kids to the BIGGER GYMS because some think that if you are with a large gym you are getting something better this is not always the case.  If there are any gyms out there willing to share thier anticipated numbers for the year I would love to see how they are doing just for comparison and not for any other reason.   If you choose not to post your numbers I would still like to hear why you dont want to share this with us and if this confirms my suspicion of why they do not choose to share this information.

I have heard there are several new gyms popping up in Northern California and I wonder if they will be able to succeed barring the over abundance of teams in the area.  Not everyone can have an All Star Gym and with the economy in its current state it is going to be difficult for a new gym to survive in my opinion, UNLESS of course you are ONE ATHLETICS. I hear they are really doing well which is likely due to the fact that they have been in the industry for many years.

Another question I have is does this new gym One Athletics has any impact on the other gyms close by?  I also hear there is a new gym in Elk Grove California now that makes 3 gyms within a 20 mile radius I cant imagine how all 3 will succeed in the area.  How are the other neighboring gyms doing as a result?

Well the One Athletics website it said they had about 105 kids. That was a few days ago so who knows now. That's great to start out with and I'm sure that number will grow.

There is a new program trying to start in Elk Grove. I think it's called Edge Allstars... don't know how that will go.

I am just coming home and thought I would get online and see what is happening. Great job for one athletics. Also, I was not aware of a new gym in Elk Grove. Where are they located? How many teams do they have? With so many teams already in Elk Grove I wish them the best in this challenging time.  I know many gyms are really struggling to stay on top due to the costs rising.  Does anyone know the website to one athletics and the elk grove gym?  Has any of these gyms impacted the other gyms near them? Has any cheerleaders left to go to these new gyms?

One Athletics used to be Roseville Cheer Starz.  Roseville Cheer Starz had an existing clientele.  I don't have a clue what the size of the clientele was but my guess is that they had around 50-75 kids in their gym.  This gym isn't starting from scratch and trying to build from the ground up.  I checked out the website and did see the announcement of 105 cheerleaders however when you actually count the names under the team distributions there is just about 80 cheerleaders.  So, really did the gym grow in size?  Not really?  Did they draw cheerleaders from another gym?  Probably?  That is normal.  There are always cheerleaders that will move to a different gym because they like a certain coach.  In addition, it's those cheerleaders that a gym is usually (not always) glad to see go.  It kid was obnoxious or their parent was so difficult and demanding that it's a great relief to see go.  Wishing One-Athletics well this season.  It's going to be a challenge to live up to all the hype.

I also heard about the Edge Allstars.  Saw an newspaper ad in a town newspaper.  This is an allstar program hiding behind the Elk Grove Jr. Herd football/cheer program.  The cheer coordinator for the Jr. Herd is also going to be the coach for the All-Star team.  This team is hiding behind a Jr. program to avoid some huge overhead costs and they really need  to be careful with this effort.  Gyms are expensive and must be done correctly from liability insurance, disability insurance, paying employment taxes, and many more small business expenses that go along with owning a real business.  This cheer coordinator is trying to avoid all this and build a team under a jr. program.  This team is going to be for girls 15-18 years old.  This is a bit puzzling and something that doesn't seem on the up and up.  The by-laws for this jr. program www.norcalsa.com states that they league has been formed for cheerleaders and football players from 5-14 years old.  In addition, the by-laws also states that the volunteer coaches can't be affliated with an all-star program.  This cheer coordinator will be wearing two hats this season as the allstar coach and the Elk Grove jr. cheer coordinator.  The Elk Grove Jr. Herd board members (understand the a several year president just left this season and there are several new board member including a new president) may be a bit naive as to what is going on and this coordinator may get the entire board in a whole lot of trouble.  They need to be careful with this effort.  There may be no all-star team in the end and even no football league for the Elk Grove Jr Herd to play in once the league finds out what is going on.  Sticky situation here and something that can clause the jr herd more trouble than it's worth.  She needs to pick one team or another.  The jr. herd or the new Edge allstars?  but don't think you can do both.

I live in an area where a major gym closed, leaving only other gym (or so I thought) to supply the demand for all star cheer in the area.  I would have expected to hear about significant growth with that gym but based on "hearsay" only tryouts are about the same as they have been in the past.  Don't get me wrong, their numbers are actually pretty good, especially since they are a small gym.  I guess I was both expecting (and hoping) to see some growth with the program.  I think the talent from the closed gym would have helped them.  Instead, I'm told many families opted not to go to this gym (a rival of the one that closed) and they are either choosing not to cheer at all or have ventured out to other small gyms in neighboring cities.  This was unexpected and changes the tide in all of this.  I did notice this season that some of the normally obscure gyms were a little more noticeable.  Now with their draw from our area it changes the dynamics.  Our one little gym is no longer the major supplier.  I wonder how this will all pan out in the years to come.  Man is it difficult to make predictions where this stuff is concerned.

Aren't there All Star Cheer bi-laws in place that stipulate that a gym can't open within a certain proximity to other gyms?  If so, is it 20 miles or it it a greater distance? 20 miles is WAY to close. I would imagine the gyms would deal with quite a bit of gym hopping and/or ostracize people who do creating unhealthy rivalries. Is that the case or is it more civil?

Titan Elite and Pace are about a mile apart
California Flyers and SCV are about 7 miles apart
CA Camarillo and CheerForce West are less than 14 miles apart
CheerForce West and VCSC pride are less than 3 miles apart

Interesting so are you saying EDGE Allstars must be freestanding in order to actually form as a program.  I did not realize this.  we were considering checking them out but there is not enough information available about their program anywhere.  Have they even started or are they are still working on it.  If they have not started by now it makes me think they will not actually open.  I would hate to sign up only to find out they dont have everything in order.  Does anyone know where we can find out if they are actually going to start or not.
I also went on the website referenced and it looks like EDGE cannot be part of the Junior Herd Program due to the bylaws of the organization so they must be moving on as a freestanding program.  Also the Junior Herd Website does not mention it and I am sure their website would be updated with this inforamtion if they were affiliated.  Does anyone have any information on EDGE or is it just a name and a dream with no actual program.
