we attended our awards banquet for our gym and one of the owners stood up and told us that our team was only minor points from winning grand national champs. we all applauded and of course believed them. but this gym continues to lie to us parents about things. so i go online today to look at the scores through the comps website and we were the second lowest score in level 4. do gym owners think it is ok to lie to us parents to keep us coming back. did they think we wont look them up on the site pr did they bank on that the scores wouldnt be posted. how coulod they stand up there and lie to us and the kids. why am i surprised when our gym has been fighting rumors all season about the lies they feed to our kids. they put down other gyms and programs. i am so upset that i trusted them. now i resign this season based on their lies all season. they were always telling the kids how they were so close to winning or they were only .2 something away form championship. now they have it posted that they are national champions 2008 when we were in our own division. no fault of theirs but my goodness, it is never what it seems with them. does anyone else think that this is wrong. to state bold face lies to us parents and the kids like this. is this a normal practice. when do should they be held accountable for thier lies and actions.
Honesty to me is always the best and only policy. I find I can deal with anything, even knowing we werent even in the running for a win if I was just told the truth. I know my daughters felt the same. Now I know where we stand and can respect that. Now I know where we need to be and can work hard to achieve that.
When it comes to speaking negatively about other gyms, there is no need for that either. Speaking of other gyms, their weakness and strengths is fine with me in done in the right context but simply attempting to degrade their programs is not necessary.
I dont like rumors!! They simply perpetuate non-truths and cause more trouble and confusion.
I would suggest you do what you feel is best for you and your family. I wish you the best and hope your travels take you to a better place.
The Polly Anna in me needs to ask, how many points was your team from first? Maybe it was a real tight competition?
I do appreciate honesty in my gym, and both of the gyms my daughter was a part of provided that. And gym owners/coaches that bad-mouth other gyms is never a good idea, it usually just ends up making you look bad...like they say the cheer world is a small one.
I don't mind stating "National Champions" when you are "National Champions", yes I get that they were the only ones - but that's marketing for ya and cheer gyms are businesses.
I can read your frustration, and it's probably too late for this, but did you talk to the owners/coaches about your concerns?

Are you serious, if you have had issues with your gym all season, you need to take your daughter and move on. This is the type of negativity no gym owner wants. It would be best that you walk away from your gym before the season really gets going again. Best wishes to you and your daughter. Hope you find a gym that gives you the "honest truth and nothing but the truth, so help you god."

Wow, this is a GREAT way to start a new sesaon. Ask for a refund and join a new gym!!!!! No owner wants you anyway with your negative attitude on cheergyms. Seriously, get a life!

And this is why Gym Owners need to put written language in their contracts to not post information on message boards. Because someone will take something so positive (an awards banquet) and find the most mi-nute element from a happy event and turn it around and broadcast on an annoyomous board. Sad, for the gym and sad for the cheerleader.
Allow me to shed a little light on this team. Basically this is a team that has been put down on cheergyms all season, only to rise above everyones crap and finish out the year with so many more skills than they started with. This team was and is still LOVED by their owners and coaches, as well as all the other teams in the program. Who gives a crap about points. In the end shouldn't really be about how far your daughter/son has improved skill and life lesson wise? Everyone on that team is a winner and grand national champion on paper or NOT!
Also, I personally know these owners and coaches and they are MORE than honest when it comes to their program. If you don't like it there, do what the above person said and ask for a refund and find a gym that is PERFECT...oh wait, does that even exsist?? Good Luck!

I don't agree with the beginning of this post. Why wouldn't a gym/team be proud that the competition was so close, they were within half a point of the Grand Champion? I know as a parent and hearing my daughter ask, people always want to know "how close". What's wrong with the gym stating really close?

That's exactly why I like seeing all the scores posted, every competition should do it.

Drama for sure. Than leave the gym. Rumors all season, sounds like gossip to me. Are your kids happy? Or do they have problems with the gym?
One thing I'm really glad is that my parents always stayed out of the drama. If I had told them I wanted to switch gyms we would have switched, but as long as I was happy they stayed out of it. Even when their were some seasons that they weren't particularly fond of a certain coach or someone who was running the books or didn't agree with something someone on staff said or did to them they did not ever decide to leave, it was all about whether I was happy there or not.
It's great that parents get involved but if they become extra involved suddenly everything is a big deal and they get sucked into scrutinizing everything too closely. Unless your kid is unhappy, why get sucked into the politics of it?

They held an event in honor of their competition year, and were lifting up their teams. Yes, I think it is important to know when it's close and to share that information so that your teams don't get discouraged. It's hard to lose and then get up and try harder the next time. If winning is within reach, they should know. It was a parent who attended came on this board to blast their own program. I don't know the team or program, nor do I care. I do find it hard to believe a parent would be angry for their owners and coaches encouraging and motivating their teams.

why o why would a gym do such a thing. based on the first note it takes about GRAND champion status. it really looks like it just not enough anymore to celebrate a 1st place, now you can only celebrate a GRAND championship. geez what is this world coming to. now you can't just be in one category now you have to win the entire event. and to think that the gym owners were throwing a party for all of you. shame on the owners and same on you for going to such a joyous event. i mean really now. i would be embarrassed to associate with someone like a gym owner that cares about each and every cheerleader and even their parents. tisk, tisk!
Yeah, I think we are beating this parent up without knowing all the details. It sounds like she has continually been lied to. We were at a gym like this (perhaps the same one) and they did a good job of glossing EVERYTHING over. There were serious problems at that gym and continue to be - sometimes little lies show the integrity of the owners. THe best bet for that parent is to move on.
