Exactly.   Also what other skills does she have?  Does she fly?  Is she a good base?  Based on what you have said no gym is going to guarantee her a spot on a level 4 team without looking at other factors.

She flys. Sticks her stuff too. Bases can twiggle under her and she still sticks. Having problems sticking the landing on standing tuck.

So she is not a level 4 cheerleader yet, standing tucks are level 4. ( I say yet because obviously she will get there very soon). What level did she cheer on last year?

lv 3. Acceleration in tumbling comes from outside of the gym.

Does your gym have a level 4 team in her age bracket?

I am confussed how is your child being held back if your gym does not even have a level-4 team to offer her?  I think you answered your own question.  Either go to a gym that has L-4 or perfect your L-4 skills and cheer on a L-3 in the hopes that the rest of the L-3 can get L-4 tumbling for next season..

Whenever I see a team perform in a level that is very clearly higher than they should be in I blame the coaches.  The coaches know what is required at that level and what the competition looks like.   If they don't know, it's time to leave that gym.  If they do know yet put the team on a constant losing streak throughout the season up until the end, again, it's time to leave and find another gym, seriously.  It's fine to push and challenge your athletes up to a point, but then reality has to set in and the team needs to be performing in the division that reflects their true capabilities.

Two years ago I cheered on a level 3 team. I had level 5 skills. I had a standing full and a running full. I could base well enough and had jumps to tuck. I had good motions and I am a decent dancer. Now I was on a level three team because at the time my gym only had a level 5 all girl team and since I'm a male I could not cheer on that team. My gyms 2 level 4 teams were both all girl also. So the only team I could be placed on was a level three team with two other boys who were just normal cheerleaders. They didn't suck, but they weren't good enough to move up to the next level. I could of moved gyms and went to one about 25 minutes farther then the gym I was at, but I was having fun so I decided to stay and what do you know the next season 2 new boys came with fulls one with a double and bam that all girl lvl 5 became small coed lvl 5.

What I am saying is that sometimes a gym doesn't have a higher lvl team to offer to a person with the skills to be on it. Therfore they have no other choice but to put that person on a lower level team. The good news about being on a lower level team is it gives you time to perfect basic skills which you will need to get higher in tumbling and stunting/flying.

My daughter has been on a youth 4 and all season they have lost. They have one more competition, the team is undefeated so I guess we know what is to come. Some people felt it was right to keep them at level 4 including the coaches, but I feel it would have been better to place them in a level that truly fit. They would have had their moment to shine instead they had a season of defeat. Before anyone starts with its not all about winning. She is on a YOUTH team a win here or there would have been nice for her young ego.I really am sad because she is done with cheer she wants to try something else, oh well. Did anyone else have this problem?

I had this problem with my daughter and her team about 5 years ago.  the team she was on was treated like a red-headed step-child.  We looked into other options and now we drive 45 minutes to be at a gym that fits her needs. Her teams don't win every time but the attitude and atmosphere are positive.

If your daughter wants to quit and you are feeling ambivelant about it you might consider having her take tumbling classes for the next year.

Thank you everyone for sharing your opinions on this matter.   It is hard to decide what is best for your child.  Pay $$$ for something that will not excel your child and pay extra to excel them on the side or start all over in a new family or tell your child that she is going to take a break this year.

Does this happen in any other sport besides cheer?

My daughter is going to stay where we are.  She does have level 4 skills and is on a level 3 team.  She loves her coaches and her friends and I love where she is.  Are their any gyms with every cheerleader true to their level/team.  I have not seen one yet.

Really?   I would bet money that a girl that possessed level 4 tumbling was on their level 3 team this past season.  Now, she may have not started on this team as a level 4 tumbler and gained the skills as the season progressed but there is not way to have true level teams throughout the year.

We all should have known of course POWER they seem to always have it perfect.. Boy I tell you every time I come on here the answer is always power.  Yes there teams are fantastic hands down, but with that comes a lot pressure and maybe some stress.  There are lots of other cheer teams in california that are just as good as Power.  I really enjoy watching there teams and I admire there cheerleaders I guess I am just a little tire of the answer to all it Power.  There is more to a gym then just winning all time.  You build friendships with the coaches, parents and other kids in the gym.  I love are gym they may not always have the level available for my dtr to cheer on, but that doesn't mean she has stopped developing her skills.  Last season she was on a lower level team this season all the girls have the required skills to move up to a L-4 and there skills are rock solid.  So I am glad we waited a year for everyone to develop solid skills and to preform them safely.

You know I use to be one of those non-believers that was always so jealous of what POWER did. I would swear up and down that they were "stacking" teams ... I mean when we lost to them, it was always easier to assume they cheated. I have come to learn that they are probably one of the ONLY organizations that is places athletes on their age AND skill appropriate levels. Trust me, I have been in this business for a long time, as has my family and I am 150% pleased with how John and the staff at POWER has ran their program. They honestly have the girls placed in their right levels. I am excited to start my new venture with their family. I understand that your gym may be the best fit for you and your family, but boy am I glad I switched. I will now be able to see teams that are in their appropriate level. I can already see the rapport with the coaches and families of POWER, placements this past weekend were amazing, I met some great families even though I was worried they weren't going to welcome me in. I am excited to win and form new bonds with new friends (the people at the previous gym STILL talk about me -because I chose to try out POWER ... and they were the ones who claimed to be my friends. Thats not the definition of friendship!) And going back to levels, this is the same for Cheergyms, although we all may have not liked how they didn't have level 5 teams in their home gyms (just through AA), teams are supposed to compete where they max out their points .... not just barely skim the bottom of that level (which is what my previous gym did). Whether you choose to admit it or not, the reason that people were so mad at these teams this past season was because they won and we felt as though they should have been in a higher level. NO, these teams performed well by performing the same skill level as your team, they probably just had more people do it. I hope this makes sense! I dont want to confuse anyone or make people mad, but its true. It took me a long time to realize this. I am sorry for being one of those people that use to think certain teams were "stacked". I NOW realize I was wrong. *sigh* I'm tired now!

Well either 1. You're new theory will prove correct or 2. You may find you have been sold a really good sales pitch. Only time will tell. This is by no means meant to be a negative post so please do not take it that way.

Honestly, the new season hasn't even started yet so the grass may seem very green.
The only thing that truly matters is that your daughter is happy. That is why we are all here; for our kids and their happiness. Shoot, if I wanted my child to be miserable, I could do that all by myself and it would be free. I'd just take away her cell phone.wink.gif

Best of luck to you, your daughter and her new program.

Wow!!! You make one comment about POWER that they don't like claws come out.  Man I read the thread it was not a jab at POWER or towards John.  I think you need to pound your thunder sticks a little more to get out your frustrationsidea
