Cheer for Charity? Marketing Stategy

It's always interesting to see how creative some gyms can be at tryout time.
Cheer force hosted an open house today..... that's great!  But what does cheer for charity have to do with an open house?  They might receive a few canned goods, or a few bucks from a raffle that will go towards helping those thousands of kids in simi as the flyer stated.............  but in my opinion, it's yet another smokescreen.  Hey let's hookup with a family that has lost a child, throw their foundation a few bones, but in the meantime what we are really interested in is getting kids to signup for our program.  Just having the open house would have been fine, but using someone's loss for your benefit isn't.
Now I'm sure we'll see how much proceeds went to the foundation posted on your site making you look ever so humble.  You are using this foundation to your own personal gain and advantage while trying to make it look like you are the do gooders.  Wonder how long this post will last.

I think it is admirable that gyms get involved in charity events.  This allows kids to realize there is more to life than just cheerleading.

As a cancer survivor of a very, very rare cancer I am truely offended by your comments.  Sometimes these events are not about "being thrown a few bones".  Did you know pharmaceutical companies don't want to spend money on researching rare cancers.  That's because there are so few of us to buy their product, that they wouldn't make any money.  I know I could never raise enough money for research, but by people hosting charity events, it raises awareness so perhaps one day these pharmaceutical companies will do what's right.

I'm not familiar with cheer forces charity event, but "Cheers" to them.

I would much rather have my kid know it's not always about winning or being better than the gym down the street.

With Hope to all.

You are so ridiculous!! Tell me...Why are you so interested in what Cheerforce is doing? It's clear by your post that you are a hater, so why don't you leave well enough alone and go jump on someone else's bandwagon. Really, you must be so intrigued by them because you seem to know everything about their every move. Right? You obviously don't know a thing about the charity event so BUG OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!yawn.gif

7:00 poster you gave me goose bumps!!

Cheers to Cheer Force!!  Marketing Strategy or not, Charity is important, Especially in a field like ours where money needs to flow like water to keep us all going.

Giving back is so so important and a great lesson to teach our kids.

I am appalled by the first posters comments. You are WAY OUT OF LINE. You are one sick puppy that is so wrapped up in hate YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF!

So that everyone knows what this charity event was all about, it was to give back to The Amanda McPherson Foundation that sponsors their special needs team. This orginazation sponsors the special needs year after year and Cheerforce wanted to give back in some way. They came up with this idea at the beginning of the season, but it just takes time to get everything and everyone in order for an event like this. It was a huge success. Thanks to all that attended and showed their support. It was fantastic.

I cannot believe someone would talk negatively about a charity event that was to help support a foundation that sponsors a special needs team, I am slightly sick to my stomach.

I agree with Amy, why are you questioning the intentions of Cheerforce, they have always been into helping their kids.  We are doing a CF walk for one of our girls, is that not okay in your eyes?

Why don't you sign your name original poster?????   Why because I get the feeling you are one who consistently comes on here trying to find ways to make this gym look bad.  You should put that passion into something more productive.

I am so appalled by the original poster, that I needed to do something positive to release the anger. I just went on the Amanda McPherson website and made a small donation, thanking them for sponsoring CheerForce's special needs team. OK, I feel better now.

What a sad post that was started.  But it shows that everyone is not ok with this type of attack on a gym.  It is good to see that people draw the line when it comes to such negativity and bashing and honestly to most of us just looks like pure hate!

Have you ever heard of using what you have for the good of others.  SO what if this gym used an open house for charity.  The fact that they are doing it speaks volumes.  How many of us have been at a competition and they have their staff walk around collecting money for a chairty. Is this not the same thing?? you could look at these companies as hooking person in and playing on their heartstrings when they are their to watch their kids perform.  NO NONE OF US THINK THAT AT ALL. we are touched by the fact, they look beyond all the competition and cheerleading and are doing something great for someone else.

This gym is teaching kids about giving. And reminding them that there are people who are less fortunate.  If anything there are more people who may not come because of the charity drive in fear of feeling pressured to donate.

I am appalled at the original poster and you should rethink how you handle your insecuriities, hate and anger towards this gym.  If you are going to not like someone or something..... BE REAL AND DON'T LOOK FOR **** (excuse my french) to tear them down.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE QUOTES " people who talk bad about others is a false sense of making themselves look better than they really are"

Cheerforce and others who get tired tearibg you down " I first have to avlue your opinion in order to care.  And I dont" love this quote and keep it in the backl of your head. It will put things into perspective

Good luck this upcoming season to you and all the gyms in cali.  love our west coast teams!

Congratulations to Cheerforce.

ACE does something similar every year.   We have "Meet the Tribe" in October to show off the new routines, uniforms, etc.  It's open and free, but we ask for a donation to help out a group chosen for that year.  Two years ago it was to help a gym that lost their building to Katrina.  Last year, it was to help the cheerleading team at Enterprise High School that got hit hard by a tornado.

Again, nice job to Cheerforce.

This is just sick and mean spirited. Original poster you have seriously crossed the line. I hope you will take to heart all the comments directed toward you. It's obvious your hatred for this gym. I think you have gone too far. Whatever your reason LET IT GO.MOVE ON.

I might agree with closing it, if not for all the responses to the original poster that, hopefully, will show the person (I write that begrudgingly) how way off track s/he is.

Really?? i thought this was going in a really good direction. People are finally starting to realize that people say things on this board because a. they feel threatened by a gym b. how they fell about the gym or people at the gym or c. to make themselves fell better. Not because of how they feel about the stiuation at hand.

Hey first Anonymous posterblehweirdface, are you who I think you are? Anyway, I am a proud cheerforce mom and to be honest I have not been on these boards since the end of last season but I heard about your post and was outraged. We put on an amazing charity event today, we worked our butts of to support a charity that we all care deeply for (the same charity that we support every year at the Amanda Walk). Cheerforce made a lot of money today for the Amanda McPhearson Foundation, we collected a lot of food for the simi food banks. Besides the Amanda Foundation is wonderful to cheerforce and sponsors our awe inspiring Glacierz. I have watched the Glacierz kids grow in leaps and bounds from shy little kids to proud cheerleaders, and their is nothing wrong with that. As you probably also know cheerforce has had numerous charity events for one of our Glacierz Boys, such as the huge bone marrow drive that happened last year and softball tournament. Cheerforce kids donated lots of money to Katrina victims, Tsunami victims as well as sending many x-mas gifts to the wonderful men and women fighting for your freedom.

Please keep your nasty remarks to yourself and find a charity so that your gym could do some good rather than evil.

Thank you Shawn and Becky for doing all the wonderful things that you do. We are proud to be apart of your family.

I have been a part of CheerForce since the beginning. I just would like to share with the original poster a few of the things I remember.

CHEERFORCE has :

Collected and shipped teddy bears /clothes to the families of the 911 tragedy

Collected money for Hurricane Katrina survivors "Direct Relief International"

Performed and participated in The Amanda Walk for a few years

Collected card's and care packages for our troops

Sponsored a toy drive for our local food bank just this last Christmas

Sponsored a bone marrow drive for one of our own special needs kids

I know there is so much more but that is just off the top of my head.
