What's up with 'some' gyms allowing parents to dish out a ton of money in exchange for their kid being front and center, or having last tumbling pass? I remember when those things used to be given according to ability and skill level! I know a gym that gave one girl point flyer, and front and center the ENTIRE routine! (There is NO tumbling ability, however.) Mommy walks in new this season, writes a fat check..and BOOM!! Amazing spots awarded! It would be one thing if this girl was amazing in all these areas, but she has very average skills! Also, she has fallen on EVERY tumbling pass this season! im not hating i just think there is a fine line between right and wrong. WHAT DO YOU THINK CHEER WORLD? Is this happening at other gyms?
I know exactly what you mean. maybe were at the same gym? i know for a fact at our gym it has been brought to the owner and coaches attention but nothing has ever or will ever be done or changed because we all know money talks. SAD, VERY SAD!!!!!!!!!!
WOW, thats really bad. Our gym makes the kids actually EARN their spots in every part of the routine. AND if they are not "pulling their own weight" they are switched with someone who can. Interesting... to say the least. We have parents who have paid their seasons up front as well, but it cuts no slack any where... thats why its competitive cheerleading.... you have to actually work hard to earn your positions on the team... I think its time you look for another gym...

If that gym feels this is the way to conduct their business that way, and the customers (the parents) are satisfied with the way they conduct their business, why does it matter so much to you?
One of the great things about this activity, there are other choices. I know one may have to travel or carpool or something, but the possibilities are there. Every gym has it's own personality, every parent/child should look into which gym meshes well with their own personality and join there and be happy.
How do people feel about pulling a kid and replacing them mid season. We have never practiced this and I hear about it all the time. How does the person moved react?
Yes this does happen. They don't just pay full tuition up front they pay extra on top of it. I would name the gym but those posts seem to dissapear. Needless to say it was one of the many reasons we left. This is teaching kids the wrong lessons in life and I want no part of it. I don't care how much the teams win when all is said and done I am hoping my daughter will grow up with high standards and know that she needs to earn things on her own merit.

Wow, so are you saying that the parents pay tuition and then another fee for the spot within the routine? That is crazy, I have never heard of this before. Why would you stay at a gym that does that. That is like Daddy paying for you to get into Stanford when you really should be at a J.C.

Exactly! Most people would never even think to ask but some with alot of money have learned that money talks so why not cheer.
This is the reason cheer is not recognized as a sport!! On the football field and basketball court this would never happen they pick the most talented and they don't care if you have money or if your so broke you only have your uniform to wear everyday.
Coaches and Parents if you are participating in this behavior you are hindering the growth of the thing you claim to love.

This is not true. In every activity my children have participated in there are always complaints about Joey that's pitching because he's the coach's son, Suzie is the goalie because her mom does everything the coach asks, Billy was chosen as the one to compete the tae kwon doe forms because his family paid for the new mirrors (never mind that it was Billy that broke them and that is probably why Billy's family paid for them).

ACE does this. It is advertised as the teams being "fluid". No spots are guaranteed at any time.

I don't disagree with the practice. But ouch if it's not handled well, which stating it from the get go would definitely help ease the pain.

That's little league, or pop warner, I am talking about high school, college, and professional where the free school rides are, there is NO SCOUT looking for "Joey" to jack up his or her career, and that's why the Laker and Bronco cheerleaders do it for free, they can not get paid due to integrity issues with their "sport" cheerleading on the sidelines and only getting paid for photo shoots sounds like a problem to me.
i agree.....if your coach and your daughter is on highschool cheer, she is front and center...whether she is good or not! I have a friend whom does not exactly "click" with the cheerleaders on her squad, however, she's a great cheerleader...she's in the back! Coaches daughter is front and center, and can barely do a kartwheel!

Tamara, you really feel this is okay? I'm very surprised. What message does this send to a member who has earned a spot in front but whose parents don't have that extra money (or who are sane and refuse to pay it)? Wow, it's unreal that this is going on, and we would be so out of that gym, in a second.

Like I said there is a gym for everyone, a gym that did this would not be for me. However, I'm tired of people complaining about what happens at other gyms or worse yet at their own gym yet continue to support them by attending this gym.

I agree. If the other parents are ok with it and it ends up costing the gym placements in competitions, then the gym gets what it has asked for. If it is common knowledge, then other parents should be upset. WHATEVER

Just some food for thought
Not True, it DOES happen in football and basketball!!! The best and talented does NOT always get the spot, it is more of who you know and how well you can be marketed to get people to come and watch... Capitalism
