i'm pretty sure every other coach knows what i'm talkin about.

i hate it how all star coaches work their butts off to train little girls to become better athletes and as soon as they get to that "high school" age, they immediately leave the gym to become a "HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADER". and most of the time, its the parents who force their child to do HS Cheer.

i have many problems with these parents.

i hate the popular answer from these kids, "my parents are making me do it."

well, if you're parents are dumb enough to think that High School cheer is goin make their child better, these kids should just run away from home. (JUST KIDDING) but on a serious note.

these kids need to stand up for themselves and say what they want. not just complain about stupid crap like, "i hate high school cheer" but real reasons of why they should stay in all stars. such as: a higher caliber of coaching, equipment, facility, competitions, athletes, wider range of travel, and an overall offers a better program.

and i hate how high school cheerleaders say that they're real cheerleaders cuz they compete on a non-spring surface. OKAY! go ahead a screw up ur legs, and joints doin tucks and layouts morons. why do u think spring floor was introduced into cheerleading, anyone who knows what they're talking about will tell you that it was for safety reasons.

i dislike any parent who forces their child to do HS Cheer just so they can be called a cheerleader in high school. please teach your child the importance of social status over happiness.

anyone?

This is one of those made up questions that is a set up for Dateline NBC, right?  Where's Chris Hansen gonna pop out from?

Because I can't really believe this is a legitimate question from a coach.

whats the question again?

I agree with poster 6:08......I have had kids in my program leave once they are HS aged....So annoying, but to each their own. I was a HS cheerleader but we were trained by Pyramids for my Jr and Sr year. So I guess I got the best of both worlds. I have also coached both HS and All Star. HS cheerleading has something that All Star doesn't and vice versa. I cannot compare the two, apples to oranges. If you are into games, rally's and such HS is a perfect place, and depending on the HS you can have a great competition team also.
For you busy kids who do both, does your HS compete? or is that why you are on All Star??? I have been thinking about coaching a HS in our area again, but I don't know that I would have them compete.

yeah, that seems to be the only way HS cheer works, if they're coached by an all star coach, or someone who was a very competitive all star cheerleader. i'm sorry, but most of the high school routines i've seen from "respected" and very "prestigous" high schools around my area haven't impressed me at all.

i often sit at a competiton and wonder, "WHY IS THIS HAPPENING"

i don't see anyone saying there legs get screwed up performing as a college cheerleader, remember they don't compete on spring floor, so why don't you have the same complaints when you go from all-star to college...hmmm your not going to a spring floor....this is also why we have a great country to live in, freedom of choice!  I'm happy for any teenager going to all-star or hs, there not out killing people, causing trouble or sitting around getting fat.  THey are accountable for there grades along with cheering, support there school, have a life long memory of friends and games, and here is another thing to add.....
not everyone can afford All-star cheer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Give it up to the girls that stay in the sport no matter what they decide, just how you don't like HS cheer many girls don't like all-star cheer.  I also know as cheerleaders that do go to college try-outs freak out with not having a spring floor.  just let it go and enjoy the team that you choose, quit making cheer so full of drama!

At most High Schools in California, cheer is not a sport.  It's popularity and just about the skirt.  All-Star is like football, it is tough and the girls that stay with it are truly the extreme athlete.  High School is cute,  All-Stars are amazing.  The girls that do All-Stars are like the guys that do football, stay out of their way.  The colleges contact our All-Stars for their teams, and they make them.  One of our girls received a scholarship for a college back east for cheer, fully paid.  Two of our cheerleaders received partial scholarships for college.  As a parent, I am glad my child is an Allstar!

the only reason they can't be a sport is beucase to be called a sport in hs they ahve to be able to compete against all other hs's in there league.  THis would have hold cheer competitions every week against one school. there are several hs teams in california that are all star level, and are great athletes...

I Need to clarify!!!! I had posted earlier that I agreed with poster 6:08......I must let you all know I ONLY agreed with the part about girls being trained by All Star coaches until they are old enough to try out for HS and that it was annoying, and that most the time parents push their kids into HS cheerleading.

I do not in any way agree with the later part of her message about them being trampy.....That was uneccessary and EXTREMELY rude!! I agree that it can be annoying to us All Star coaches who do train those kids from the time they were 3 years old.

Acedad - Thanks so much for the PM.....I had not even realized that I stated I agreed with those horrible words!

Just wanted to clarify!!!!!

I guess it can depend on the highschool to.  My niece who cheers for H.S. likes it for the rallys, football games..uniform at school.  However, my daughter does all-star, everytime my niece comes, she makes the comment she would much rather be on an all-star team.  Her school has comp teams, however, it appears the coach has "her/his" favorites, and last year, those were the chosen ones.  Only 12 girls got picked for comp, and therefore, it was a little tough as there were a lot of girls trying out.  After going to highschool games, and all-star comps,,,,I pick All-stars as my favoritebiggrin

If you ask the best person on any high school squad where they learned to be a cheerleader they will probably say they were on an all star team.

i agree, you are taking away from top HS teams in cali.  Not everyone is an all-star cheerleader.  And there are top ranked hs teams who have girls that never cheered all-star.  I don't understand why you think they have to be an all star cheerleader to be good?

I wasn't going to respond to this post at all because there is no comparison to allstar and cheer as some one who grew up cheering for both.  They are completly different.  You cheer allstars because you live, breath and sleep competitive cheer and want to be the best at what you do.  you cheer hs for the Social aspect along with respect from school being able to do rallys and cheer on your sport at games etc.  You also get to compete on hs and at the hs in my area this is not something kids can jsut do becuase they want to wear the uniform.  Anyone that continues to believe that about hs cheer, needs to look around and not just at your specific school.  I know it can be annoying having girls leave allstar for hs but that goes both ways. Our local allstar gym gets our kids all the time and they always recruit our best gymnasts and flyers etc.  You dont see their coaches on this board complaining all the time this is a business and sport and that happens.  Get over it already!  Also all the other comments were jsut unwarranted and coming from an uneducated person get up on your knowledge before you accuse kids and people of anything.

I would like to say, most parents don't make their athlete quit allstars to do high school.  Most of the time it is the cheerleader.  They want to check it out.
They don't want to let their coach down, so they blame it on their folks.   I have witnessed it in our business.  Almost all of them come back the next year, or they do both hs and allstars (if they can afford it).  We had a parent that would not let her daughter do hs because she, the parent felt hs was not cheer.
