Pick and choose...there are plenty in your area that are free. Your child will understand that you can make the local free ones and not the travel expensive ones just so they can cheer.

THIS IS SERIOUSLY RIDICULOUS WHO WOULD HAVE THEIR KID DO AN EVENT THEY CAN'T EVEN GO AND WATCH, BESIDES WHO SAID ALL KIDS DONT CARE IF THEIR FAMILY WATCHES THEM!!!

Sounds great, just make sure you dont complain about the costs of travelling competitions.

Exactly.  And I don't see the problem with sending a child with a trusted adult.  One, if they're old enough (maybe 9 and up) and two, if the adult is a TRUSTED adult, there shouldn't be a problem.  We've done it for the past two years and have yet to encounter a problem.

Your still missing the point, Why do a sport that you can only afford to send you kids with a trusted adult and why assume a kid want to perform to just strangers and not their familiesweirdface.gif

No I think you are missing the point.  It sounds like your mind is made up and it is a waist of time to try and give you ideas on how you could still work cheer into your childs life and it not be a strain.  All families are making sacrafices to allow our children to cheer.  I have two dtrs in cheer and it is all about sacraficies and I am not going to feel bad if the only way I can do it is to have a great friend who shares the load.  She takes to one comp and I take my children and hers to the next comp.  It helps out a lot with cost we share the load.  We may not make it to all of them, but we make it to most..

while i absolutely love my parents being at my competitions and knowing they are there watching always makes me perform like it is the last competition.they sent me to atlanta with somebody else. Actually, they didnt even meet the people i was going with until we got to the airport that morning. I still went to atlanta and performed my heart out just as if they were there watching if not harder. The good thing about competitions like that is after it is over you can order the dvd and watch it. Then they also dont have to sit through teams they dont want to watch.wink I know aswell as my parents that i am very responsible so the mom i went with didnt really have to do much of babysitting. I pretty much did what i wanted while i was there<-always with someone from our gym though. the only time i really saw her was in the hotel room.I know it is hard to let go...but she will be fine.

We had a single mom this year in our organization that has two daughters on a team.  Her total cost for the year for the two this year was a little over 6K.  She fundraised every single penny of it and was able to make it to the majority of their competitions.

As parents you do what you have to do to put the smiles on your kids' faces.

I wasn't referring to ALL competitions, just the ones that are away and costly.  My parents couldn't afford to travel with me to Illinois, Texas or Ohio, yet that didn't mean I was performing for strangers.  I performed for my teammates and my coaches and for myself.  And I didn't see it as a bad thing that they couldn't always afford to go -- it's expensive.

THAT'S my point.  And to reiterate, I don't mean the kids should be alone at ALL competitions.  Clearer now? smile

I am sad to say that I no longer believe that I will be able to afford to allow my kids to continue to pay for cheer.  My heart is so broken!  Am I the only one this is happening to?  I watch my friends and other parents pay for cheer year after year (my kids and i have only been in cheer for 3 years).  We have similar jobs with similar salaries but everyone else seems to be able to make it work.  Does everyone else know something I don't know?  Do you think they're hocking jewelry to pay?  Or have side jobs that I don't know about?  These prices are crazy!  They could pay off a house early...I could retire early!  I could even put my kids through college and pay cash for all 4 (or 5) years.  What the heck?  Please someone tell me the secret so that I can stop sulking. cry

There are several booster clubs that have fundraisers you can participate.  Since booster clubs are non profit and can not support one specific organization I'm sure you can find a booster club close to you that will help you.  Booster clubs are open to the public.

The only booster clubs that I know of seem to "belong" to organizations and do not include outsiders in their fundraiser, unless they are relatives or good friends of the organization's members.  Are you speaking of a different type of booster club?  Could you please give more information?

Hi there...
if you are with cheergyms you can fundraise. I did that last year, worked just about the entire summer, made about $3,000.00. While I did that in the summer, it goes the entire cheer season so you can spread it out. It can be a lot of work, but it is also fun too!
Hope this helps!

What kinds of fundraising did you participate in to raise so much? That's fantastic!

I know Vicky100.  She worked nearly every fundraising event, AND she's not the only one who has fundraised an entire years worth of cheerleading...some have even done it for more than one child!

The fundraisers that seemed most effective were working the concession stands, you can "earn" a flat rate or a percent of the stand, also you get to keep the tips (some events tip much more than others).
