Money plays a big roll in all this.  When the parents start paying for a service they have lots more to say than sitting back watching a youth league or high school team.  It's not to kids that are in the program that drive you crazy, it's the PARENTS!!!!  I wish the new gym lots of luck.

Its going to be tough starting a gym with so many other gyms in one area.  This gym is going to have to recruit some serious coaches to make it happen for them.  Good coaches are hard to find and aren't cheap.  Be prepared to hire some business consultants about how to open up a small gym.  It's going to take time to build a solid program and be prepared to struggle for a few years before success can really start happening.

Well now that we have confirmed that Lain will not be coaching, I doubt they will have the "serious coaches" they will need to be successful

I don't know anything about this gym, but my youth organization has been in the same league with VCS for 4 years with Cathy as the Head coordinator/varsity coach.  I can't speak for how she will be as an all-star coach, but she has always been professional and her organization has always come out and had great squads and performed with excellent routines year after year.

As for vacaville having too many teams, i know from our league that the VJB's have way more girls trying to sign-up than our league allows, so maybe this will allow the extra's some place to go...

If no one is afraid of a little competition, don't bash something before you've seen it in action.  Not just with this gym, but with any new gym, just because they don't have big name coaches doesn't mean that they can't put together a great program.  What everyone has to remember is that each program you all talk about started from somewhere.  Coaches and programs weren't just born great, they had to learn and start at the bottom and work their way up.

Isn't Aerials a new gym?  I've seen them at a couple competitions and I thought they looked impressive.

I don't think anyone is bashing anything.  I think we are all just stating the facts.  The economy sucks and a small town acannot handle that many programs.  AND Lain is a "serious coach" as the poster said.  So I don't think there is any bashing happening.  Why does SOMEONE ALWAYS have to turn things into DRAMA.

Aerials is a new gym and they have come so far in such a short period of time. Aerials will definitely be a gym that will stay competitive.  The difference between Aerials and the other gyms in that area, is that Aerials is training their athletes in their strengths, not just building teams to have a gym compete at a higher level (if that makes sense).  They may not have the higher level  teams, but they are competitive in their divisions, which is what makes a gym successful. Thier youth team is fabulous and their senior team makes the other teams in thier division work for their places. You can see the difference in their program in just 2 short years.  Also Aerials has coaches who have been in the All Star arena competitively.
I agree that most parents think that you can just open a gym because you have the money to do so. There is way more than having the financial backing.  Running a school program is not the same as running an all star program. NOt to say it can't be done, but they will definitely need to get out of that same mindset.
Since I am familiar with the group of people opening 707, i do believe that Cathy is very organized and pretty professional. She will need to let go of her set ways though to stay in business.
Katie is an agressive coach which will be great for all stars, so being young doesnt mean she can't do it.
Paula, well let's just say Cathy should make an executive decison and leave 'the coaching to those who should coach. Money doesnt make you a coach.  It will be a bad business decision to have her coaching.  This will be a case where a mom who coached elementary at vcs thinks she is fit to be all star. And we have all seen that in this arena. NOT GOOD!
Oh and not to take away from cheertyme, who may not be the biggest gym gym in vacaville, but they have a great owner and she is what keeps that gym open. Her heart is good.

I understand there is a not-for-profit team that is trying to start in Elk Grove.  They are going to be vagabonds of sort.  Planning to rent space from existing gyms in the area.  The coach is from a youth program in the area and thinks she can make a go at it.

When does she plain on letting people know with tryouts and sign ups going on she should do this soon, she may not get as many kids if she waits to long

The program is going to be for the local High School girls to participate in competitions. In Elk Grove, most of the high school cheer programs do not compete. This will allow those that are moving into high school from the rec league programs to continue to compete without having to join an all star gym that late in the season. It is currently being tossed around and not being advertised since it is just in the planning stages. From what I know if everything is agreed on it will be backed by Elk Grove JR Herd program.

Greetings all,
Coach Lain Here.
This is my first visit to the boards and what have I been missing? j/k
The best way to put a rumor to rest is to address it personally, so here I am for one time and one time only and then maybe my phone will stop ringing and my inbox will slow down, phew haven't gotten this much email action in quite some timebiggrin.

Coming straight from my mouth, "I am not working for 707 cheer as a coach, owner or tumbling instructor." I am in no way affiliated with that group of people in any way.

As far as opening a gym... well the thought may have crossed my mind and then wait...  I got this reality checkidea!
Seriously, I have a group of young ladies who are wanting to compete, but not join any particular All Star group in their area and I may do a little something something for them.

Other than that we can now lay this rumor to rest. I am not embarking on the adventurous concept of owning a full size gym.

Phew, well I need to get back to work on my computer and take care of my real job.

Blessing Y'all
Coach Lain 3

blah blah blah

you know what ...

they should make the cities organize the sport now.

City Parks and Recs Dept. You can only go to the gym in your area, just like schools or softball teams.

No more bickering, you go where you are only allowed to.. and make the best of your situation.
