This is such a sad and frustraiting situation for those parents and cheerleaders involved. I am so sorry about the early end of your season. I do think the new gym owner could have answered your question with a little more sympathy.
I am sorry this happened to your daughter. I think the whole situation with people not paying is getting way out of control. I think these "parents" feel that since their child is part of a team the owner would prefer them to stay and add to the team instead of take them off. What is wrong with you? Your child does not deserve a free ride any more then any other child. All of the kids are working to be their best and the paying parents are working hard to pay their bill. It is not right for people to get a free ride. We have some "freeloaders" at our gym and I can tell you that we are getting bitter about it. The kids on the team are aware of who is taking advantage of the system and it does not do much for the unity aspect of our team. SO.....If you are a parent don't expect a free ride or think your child is so good that they should not have to pay. Even olympic athletes have to PAY. Quit making this experience a bad one for the other parents, athletes and coaches/owners. PAY UP!
Our gym has boys and the gym has them pay. Unless they wont pay and then they become freeloaders. I do not know of a gym in California that allows free tuition for boys.

I was not going to open up that can of worms...but since you did...lol
I have heard parents say that they know how bad a gym needs their kids because they are the star_________ so they know they will never kick them off
WRONG!!!!! Gyms are getting tired or pompous "you can't touch me attitudes' whether they come from the athlete or the parent(s) (Hey we did it 2 weeks before a major comp then turned around and had to do it again with 2 more athletes -Level 5 and 3 the week of the competition and still finished in the top Think the owners wouldn't do it again if they had to?
My favorite are the ones who say...I AM NOT PAYING FOR THE OWNER'S KIDS TO CHEER/COMPETE! Uhh...hello...owners do not make as much money as you think they do, no matter how much you think they are charging too much. Now don't get me wrong...i think there should be some balance if for nothing but perception's sake...but when you hear kids say that you know they got that from their parents.
Or a neighboring gym whose owners have no kids or have aged out

Anonymous wrote:I know this happened to a southern california gym last season. I certainly don't hope this is happening in the same gym again. In the end all the paying parents were to pay an additional amount exceeding $200.00 per cheerleader to cover the remainng expense. If this is the same gym, then there is a mismanagement of funds and more needs to be looked at.
This isn't the same gym - that gym is doing GREAT!
I think I know the club you are talking about. If so, it just now happened and you have not had a chance to hear from your new owner. What you have heard has come from either the rumor mill or your present coaches. The new owner and staff are a good group of people who have a very successful club so I would bet that they will try to do the right thing. I would wait to hear from them before drawing to many conclusions.
Unfortunately not everything that I have heard is coming from coaches...parents have called and talked to the owner and have been told the same thing......

I am another parent this is having this same problem. I believe we are talking about the same town and gyms and I have talked to the current owner and the new owner and to my surprise. The new owner has stated that your season will probably end after Vegas and if you want to continue then you need to tell your other parents to pay their bill.
I have a big problem with that comment. I am a paying customer and it is none of my business who pays and who doesn't. "Tell the other parents to pay their bill" did not give me a good impression of this guy and my child will not cheer for him. And hopefully her and her friends will be making a commute to another gym that is about 1 1/2 hours away, unless someone wants to come to Bakersfield and help these great kids have a solid good enviroment to cheer in.
My daughter's gym is about 1 hr 15mins south of Bkfd. We love our gym and their owners! You should come down the grapevine to our gym!

That is actually what we are thinking of doing....glad to hear we would be welcome....a number of parents are considering it!!!

Cheerforce.
Just to clarify this Cheerforce does not charge boys tuition. They do pay for everything else.

California allstars.
Actually, I'm not gonna put California allstars on blast for this. This is very common practice. Either your gym doesn't have a coed team, or you don't really have any idea of how gyms outside of your gym run their businesses. Having a successful coed team is potentially a good draw for your program, possibly a big enough draw to outweigh the lost revenue for the boys on your team.
Got a call that I should read and respond to this topic and after reading I guess I must as it sounds like the discussion concerns our purchase of Stars. I'll keep it simple and then encourage everyone to wait until the parent meeting we hope to have this week.
American takes over the programs at the Stars facilities March 31. Until then all decisions and actions are in the hands of the current owner. To the best of my knowledge Stars is going to Las Vegas this weekend, but check with your coaches. I hope they are and that it can be a time for the kids from both organizations to get excited about the future of cheer in Bakersfield.
After Vegas AMERICAN INTENDS TO TAKE THE STARS SQUADS TO ALL THEIR REMAINING COMPETITIONS. Hope that helps clarify things.
To the mom that I previously told that we were concerned about being able to go to the remaining competitions... you caught me just after I learned that there was a huge balance unpaid by many families and had not had time to figure things out. What I think I was trying to say was that IF those past due families would step up and pay their bills that would solve the problem. My apologizes for the confusion.
Lastly, let me say that American is excited about bring to southwest Bakersfield what we offer in the northwest. Between the two locations we have nearly 80,000 sq feet! WOW! By pooling our cheer programs together we will be able to be competitive nationally at every level of cheer including Worlds. Besides cheer we currently offer gymnastics, tumbling and trampoline, dance, swim lessons, taekwondo, judo, wrestling and more! Over the coming year we hope to introduce these same programs and more!
Join us in what together could be one of the most exciting cheer and kids sports program anywhere.
