But why?  Why should the USASF tell you how to uniform your athletes in your program?  So you have to go buy a new uniform....from Varsity?

I'm totally opposed to uniform restrictions for All-Stars.

Im on the fence with this one. I dont want to see a mini youth sometimes even junior team in a crop top but when it comes to senior or open i believe they should have the choice.

They are trying to phase it out of all divisions from tiny to senior- leaving gyms with no choice...........

What's next, enforced footwear, sold only by Varsity

Enforced music choice, mixed by Varsity

Enforced bows, socks, briefs, all available through Varsity

Enforced practicewear with surprise inspections

Why aren't more people upset about this?......not the issue of crop/full tops, but the fact that your choice will be removed!  No free will in Varsityland

I just think it best for everyone. There are a lot of good athletes that are bigger girls that you can tell are uncomfortable with crop tops. A uniform does not make you a good athlete or a better team...

But if you don't like crop tops, choose a different team.  If your kid doesn't want their belly to hang out, use your freedom of choice to choose a team with full length tops.  No one is FORCING you to CHOOSE a team with crop tops.

That's the diff here...USASF is trying to FORCE you to CHOOSE full tops.

I am totally against this!!!!!!!! We  shouldnt been  told  how to  wear  our  uniform. Its not  fair to team  who  bought  new uniforms  this  year  as crops  and  use them  for  2-3 yrs  and  have to spend  another 1000 on one  next  year because  of this  lame  rule. I also know  some teams  incorprate there uniforms as a theme  with there  music .. are  they  gonna say  we  cant  do that either. personally  the  styles  as full length  just arent  as  cute. I agree with  who ever  said if the bigger girls arent  comfortable that  they  could choose  another gym. its only  for  2:30mins.  then most put a  t shirt back on  anyways.  This  is just making me angry as a coach and  still a cheerleader. !!!!

I'm not saying I prefer midriff tops or not...I just dunno why it would be permissible or even reasonable for the USASF to think that they should get involved in personal business decisions made by coaches and gym owners

This would be a ridiculous rule, they cannot make me go to the dark side and buy from varsity and become like a stepford wife.  Viva la differance!!!!  I will not fold to the varsity brand, i will not.

I know...I think our next uni will be from Spirit Innovations or the company that does the uniforms for Pace.  Those were pretty.

This new rule proposal also states that your briefs may not hang out from under your skirt.  So skirts have to be long.

Someone tell these sports they should cover up too- if cheer is going all 19th century, everyone should!

If the USASF tries to go back to the dark ages in uniforms that would be crazy!!  The crop tops look great on most teams and I find them far more flashy then the long shell, long skirt uniforms.  My daughter does both allstar and high school and her all star uniform looks much better!  This is not a situation the USASF needs to be involved in at all and will only succeed in giving them a bad name.  Can you imagine if the USA Gymanstics federation tried to change from leotards to something longer.  Give me a break!!

What my child is allowed to wear has always been up to me. If I do not want her in a crop top, i do not belong to a gym that wears them. If I am okay with it, than she cheers for a gym that wears them. USASF is over-stepping it with this one. Nobody can say what is best for MY child other than me.

Before everyone continues getting their feathers riled up, do we even know this to be fact?  Some anonymous person comes on here and states it without even giving any sort of link backing it up.  I'm not saying it's not true, but I'm waiting until I see something a little more official.

The USASF National Advisory Board (NAB) and the USASF Board of Directors would like your feedback about a proposed change in All Star uniforms which would be implemented over the next few years. this proposal is the result of feedback from coaches, judges, parents and event producers who feel that midriff/bra tops and skirts that are very short are not portraying the ALL AMERICAN image that All Star cheerleading should be. Judges have a big voice in this and feel that uniforms should not distract from a performance when worn too small or by the wrong body type. We would appreciate your feedback on the following survey. Please read the opening proposal prior to answering the survey. Your feedback is important to us and will be taken into consideration in the development of the final proposal.

THIS SURVEY WILL CLOSE MARCH 16, 2008.

Sincerely,

Lance Wagers
USASF Board of Directors

USASF Dress Code and Proposal:

Based on the recommendation of the NAB, we propose the following guidelines and time frame for implementation:

Uniform Changes by the Fall of 2009:
*No midriff/bra tops for participants on Tiny, Mini or Youth Level and under teams. The bottom of the uniform top should meet the waistband of the skirt when standing straight.

**Skirt length should visibly cover the briefs when standing straight.

Uniform changes by the Fall of 2010:
*No midriff/bra tops for participants on Junior Level teams. The bottom of the uniform top should meet the waistband of the skirt when standing straight.

**Skirt length should visibly cover the briefs when standing straight.

Uniform Changes by the Fall of 2011 *No midriff/bra tops for participants on Senior Level teams. The bottom of the uniform top should meet the waistband of the skirt when standing straight.

**Skirt length should visibly cover the briefs when standing straight.

There are currently no restricitions proposed for Open Level teams.

If you guys want cheerleading to be a mainstream sport you are going to have to make some compromises.

Tell me a sport allows you to wear whatever uniform you want in whatever fashion you want.  There are none.

A big reason why All Star cheerleading is not likely to become mainstream any time soon is because people in cheer feel like they are entitled to everything.  They fight and complain about every little change and standardization that is made  All this does is slow down the process.

Time to choose your battles, fight the things are are truly going to effect the way cheerleading is run, and let things that have no impact on cheer as a "sport" go.
