Bummer - we were excited when our girls came home stating that they were told that we are going to be part of Power. That just solidifies our decision to leave.
Yes, thank you! That really makes it much clearer, and it is a very interesting idea. Can individuals take part in the process, or is it only by teams/gyms?

The collective groups of Cheer Gyms in this area are lame. and it is old. The two gyms that are always complaining about each other on this board. I think you all should know that to the outside, you both look LAME
I really don't see that at all. I do see that the bashing is a bit one sided. It's just a shame. Can everyone here just learn to respect one another and least tread on neutral ground?
I've read the website. There is not a single reference about UCF becoming a POWER gym. The website also talks about the very same thing that Mr. Herbert stated, nothing more. They are looking for ways to save the parents money. And it looks like they have found a way for their cheerleaders to compete at the Level of 5. That's all it says.
Some of you are reading more into the information than should be. It's difficult to know the facts if you are not affliated with the gym. Why don't you all just call the gym directly and get your questions answered instead of assuming something is there when it's not. Then coming on this board and starting a rumor that just isn't true.
I'm done complaining about the negativity on this board.
Businesses requires marketing strategies. And if this gym has a great strategy then we can all learn from this. My dad always said, "you be the leader, the trend setter, and never the follower." It's important that you always have your viewers visit more than once. It looks like they have done just that. They may have just "made you look". I say that's marketing.
So the point of this is to have many of the Nor Cal gyms competing at the same event. So who gets to select which competitions are deemed "NCAA" worthy, as well as would if you decide to change your mind down the line on what competitions. In addition not all the competitions in Nor Cal are attended by just Nor Cal teams. Hmm I think we will wait this season out and see how it pans out.
Also many teams complain about not having competition. Sorry there aren't many large level 5 all girl teams in the entire state, so by doing this, it won't create those teams. In addition most of the competitions this year had many events that were competitive, maybe not in level 5, but in the other levels. Just look at allthe Jamz regionals, jamfest, cheersport, american championships, and even the UCA regional which happened this past weekend. I don't like any organization that basically regulates where my gym can attend. Isn't the whole part of doing all star cheerleading the ability to choose when and where you want to go. Sorry not all of us want to be overwhelemed at every event. Not every coach wants to go at 8 am and then leave at 9pm at every local competition.
From speaking to John and hearing about the amount of programs interested in the NCAA I think you will find that there are going to be more than one competition to choose from per month or weekend for that matter meaning that he has spoken to teams that enjoy going to GSSA in Dec and others that enjoy Jamz in Dec. I feel that you won't be restricted to attending only one comp. I agree that I would not want the majority of the gym owners in the NCAA telling me where my gym will compete. We have our favorites for different reasons. I am chosing my competition schedule now and when we all get together if it works out for us to join the NCAA then we will , if it is beneficial to our program , if not then we will continue with our normal routine. I would rather not save $5 - 10 per cheerleader per event than make my customers feel upset with our schedule that we have come to really get used to and like. I think some people are seeing this as a negative and technically it is only a positive if it works for your program. This is a personal choice per program, no one is forcing anyone into anything and the goal of NCAA is to only grow the competitiveness in our area and allow us as gym owners to have a louder and more effective say with voting with the USASF. Goodluck to everyone in making a choice that works for their athletes and programs.
I have no idea if this is a good idea for the n. california teams or not. Wouldn't it be nice if more people had Nicole's reasoned response.
I just find it sad that so many people will be critical of ANY attempt to do ANYTHING different.
This might work and it might not. But there's nothing wrong with the effort.
But not trying reminds me of a definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over, but expecting different results. (Either Benjamin Franklin or Albert Einstein, I can't remember).
For those that choose to join the NCAA, I wish them the best.
Everytime I see "NCAA", I think of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the organization through which the nation's colleges and universities govern their athletics programs.

no but that is what they told our kids. lies lies lies. it looks one way on paper they say the other to our kids. they lie all the time. so no its not marketing it is a bunch of lies. they are being exposed daily for what they do. they are not innocent in all of this bashing. they bash other gyms and talk to our kids about other gyms not just their rival. they lie aboout other gyms and they cause rifts. again behind close doors it is a huge mess. so many of you would not jump to defend them if you knew the things they were sayong about your gyms programs etc. to keep stuff going

My request for a neutral discussion has desolved. You win. I will no longer ask for everyone to get along. It's just not worth the time or the energy.
This was a day to bash Cheer Force teams, in So. Cal and No. Cal.
I only hope everyone the best with a continued success and tranquility.

That's too bad about your situation with your current gym. There's nothing like paying this much money for your daughter/son to cheer and be so unhappy about the gym. Good luck next season. Hopefully you're able to find a gym to your liking.

Read John's explanation again. This time comprehend it.
Agreed - no one will force you to attend anything. If your organization chooses to not attend, then more power to you. Those who choose to attend will save the difference in competition fees. No one is going to twist anyone's arm to make anyone attend anything.

has anyone heard anymore about this gym alliance? I hope we can get to the competition companies and have our voices heard. If anyone has new info please post how it is going!
The Northern California All-Star Alliance is going great. We currently have 20+ gyms wanting to be involved. The gyms represent all sizes and levels from Fresno to North of Sacramento, and from Placerville to the coast of the Bay Area.
All of the major event producers have contacted us regarding the upcoming 2008/2009 season. Even the President of the USASF has given us a call. We will be having our first meeting on April 12th 2008 in Stockton, CA. All gyms are invited to attend. If you are interested in having your gym represented please conatct me at powercheer@aol.com .
We will post information regarding our meeting on April 14th or so.

I'm wondering if anyone has looked at this from a legal standpoint this seems like a move towards unionizing. I don't know how I would feel as a competition company. Times are hard for everyone including the companies and this type of pressure coming from owners seems unecessary JMO. I think it is USASFs responsibility to arrange something like this since they are the governing body, not Northern California Gym Owners.

I have to disagree! It is NOT the USASF responsibility. The USASF is a governing body of rules and to make sure gyms and companies abide by those rules. It is our responsibility as gym owners to provide a good product for our cutomers, that being the kids and their parents. It is our responsibility as gym owners to ensure comp companies do not put comps on the same weekend. If the larger comp companies are going to purchase the smaller companies and not give us options, then we need to band together and show them we are a team and have them remember we are ALL their customers. SOME companies get that, some do not!
