RE: California Flyers!!!!! Way to go!

I was not at this competition so I guess I shouldn't have a say in how cheersport runs its competitions...but I really don't like that they divide up their divisions. From what I understand they do this because they have a lot of teams in each division and it can be difficult to rank accurately with so many teams. I personally think what should be done in this case is what used to be done at all the nationals: have prelims/semi-finals and finals. But the companies know that parents are shelling out a lot of money and want to see their kids perform twice so I believe that is why virtually all nationals have each team compete twice. But as a competitor I think there is a much greater sense of accomplishment when you have to go through prelims in order to compete in semi-finals and you have to do well in semi-finals to compete in finals. It also makes it easier for the judges and due to less teams the results are more accurate.

who were they against?

i believe they were in the tougher of the small sr 5 split divisions going up against cea, central jersey, sjs.

They were in the easier one.

wow and i guess you must be the expert in which oone was easier or not? how petty is that!!!
come on they went there and won. they competeted aginst other teams and eraned their first place! how many times have your teams won in your division and maybe went against one other team or teams that may not in others opinions be the top team to beat but you won. it is your victory. give me a break.  a win is a win.  congratulations

I was just stating the obvious. Their division was the easier one. Based on their score they would not have placed first in the other division. So, it must have been easier to win.

Your right they would not have placed 1st in the other division, but they wouldv'e placed 3RD overall if both had been combined!!!!! That is VERY impressive out of 32 teams! A total unknown team went out there with amazing new stunts and very entertaining inovative choreography and kicked Butt!!! Happy to see good quality tumbling technique over quantity of sloppy, ugly skills.
Good job flyer girls, you stuck it and deserved it!! Can't wait to see what you bring to the table at world's!! Good luck!biggrin

The team that was in first day one bobbled some full ups and the 2nd place team had some tumble bust.  The first place was better but did not hit there routine.  I looked at the video and the flyers were good not great.  A win is a win though so kudos to them.  And if you go on some of there myspace looks like the team that shoulda got first was hanging out with the flyers.  So that looks like good sportsmanship which is something we don't see very much.

Then they weren't the better team, IMO.

People have complained endlessly about cheersport's splitting of their divisions and how you will always end up with a division that is somewhat easier than the other.  Every team should be going against the same talent,  not the talent chosen randomly to be in a particular division.   But they don't care, they'll never change it, which is sad.   While a win at Cheersport is impressive, if you want to know how you truly stand against the top talent in our country, you go to NCA.

I understand why Cheersport has no choice to split the judging panel. It is impossible for one judging panel to score 32 teams. Just think how difficult that would be. It is a drag they can't. NCA seems to be smaller every year and Cheersport is growing. I guess the bottom line is Worlds.
I don't think Flyers had any intention of going to Cheersport and placing 1st nor did they have any plans to attempt to go for a bid to worlds. They would have tried right here in California for that. Are they even going??
