Ehem... I don't believe CA is the only gym who posts such things. I think you should get over the CA horn thing. It ain't goin no where.
Just congratulate them and get ready for the next comp. It's been a great season so far with much talent. A lot of these gyms are celebrating in their own way. Leave em alone.
I think the poster was stating more of a fact that people need to respect where they are using these horns...although, most of us responding are not a fan of them period. I am not a fan. I think it's distracting. Like someone else mentioned, clap, yell, make posters.....although, I have to say, one of the vendors at this comp was selling them. Our gym discourages the use of them. CA allstars is plenty good, they will do just fine without them....
I have to say their teams are very good. I was impressed by every level.....not just the higher ones! I thought the level 3 was awesome! Good job.
I can't help myself I have to voice my opinion on the subject ofAIRHORNS.I cannot count the number of times I have been sitting at a competition and had one go off right in my ear. Mind you I'm all for supporting your team.I can handle loud screaming, cow bells, thumper sticks, etc., but I wish they would banAIRHORNS.They are a menace to society. They cause temporary deafness to innocent bystanders, and have been know to cause severe migraines. They can turn a normally sane cheer parent into a dangerously grouchy, angry person. I have witnessed many people assaulted by the exuitiating loudnoise ofAIRHORNSthat have almost been pushed to the brink by these horribleinstruments oftorture. At one particular venue I witness parents almost resorting to physical violence when another parent insisted on using an AIRHORNthroughout all the performances of all their gyms teams.Did I mentioned they where a rather large gym, and by the end of the day I was ready to tell this parent to stick herAIRHORNwhere thedon't shine........
Well, I have a strong feeling that it has become more of an issue this season, and companies are going to be looking further into this.
There are other ways to support your teams than to honk a horn. RRRRGGGGG.
I have a strong inkling that they will be banned within th next two years. Some competitions already ban them, and a know of a few more companies that will be jumping o n the banning bandwagon next season, and the season to follow. THANK GOD!

I just wanted to say good job to your level 5 team this weekend. They have great flexibility! Are you coming up for gssa?
THANK YOU! I'm not sure if we will be coming up to GSSA this year. I do not coach the level 5, and I can barely remember my own teams' competition schedule! Lol!!!

I am the original poster of this topic and it was not my intention to have CA picked apart for this because as so many indicate many other gyms are guilty of this too and there is no rule against it. I only wanted them to ask their parents to be respectful.
Due to the number of replies from people who DISLIKE airhorns, this thread is best just to continue on that subject only and not to mention names. I have not seen many posts in favor of airhorns. The biggest argument seems to be they help support your teams but many feel there are so many other ways to do this. Some excuses iare that people get overly excited and don't always think WHICH WAS the root of my post!!! Please think, I mean really how do you miss two silver haired elderly people sitting directly in front you?
At this point since so many people are against the airhorn, maybe if enough of us write the cheer companies they will listen (or should we blow a horn in their ears and see if they can listen......LOL).
personally, it doesnt't matter if an older person is sitting their. Airhorns damage airdrums. It is not healthy for anyone especially littl ekids and older people. Basically it is about respecting others in the arena. Clapping, yelling, thunder sticks etc are all healthy ways of crowd participation. and good old fashion yelling. Ok so yelling can starin your voice(but it is your voice you may or may not harm and not others)!!!!!! so airhorns should just be bannned and any other instrument that is harmful to others hearing.
I love it when a crowd goes wild for a team. It is great to see parents chant, whistle, and applaud loudly while their team is taking stage, and at key moments during the performance. It adds a lot to the excitement of the performance, and is impressive to spectators.
BUT, I don't think that it impresses anyone to hear (loudly) that a team parent knows how to use an airhorn. ANYONE can push a button and make an excruciatingly loud honk come out of them - SOOOOO not impressive! I cringe when it's a parent with our own gym, because I think it is a fairly rude way to show your support. (Also, isn't anyone afraid of damage to kids' hearing after attending several of these competitions?)
I love the chanting, clapping, and "Go Team" spirit - hate, hate, HATE the airhorns!! They should be used outside only, and not near other people who may treasure their hearing!
Unimpressed Parent (who happens to have tinnitus that is exacerbated by very loud noise)
I did not know what tinnitus was so I looked it up...
tin·ni·tus A sound in one ear or both ears, such as buzzing, ringing, or whistling, occurring without an external stimulus and usually caused by a specific condition, such as an ear infection, the use of certain drugs, a blocked auditory tube or canal, head injury, or airhorns.
as i member of California Allstars i COMPLETELY agree with everyone who absolutely ABHORS airhorns! everytime i hear them i want to tackle the person to the ground for blowing them inside of a venue..its so annoying and completely distracting from the routine/music...contrary to what it says on our website..please do not bring or use them hahha.
what about the flags that were blocking the view of the stage? I was at home watching the webcast and it was diificult to view at times because of the flags that were in the camera's view...

While the flags may be a bummer...that's all they are. Those airhorns even when properly used can cause permanent damage AND they're a bummer.
If I'm traveling all the way to this competition, it's more than just a bummer if someone blocks my view with flags. There are only so many seats available so telling me to move would not be an option. Wave the flags before and after, but never ever during the performance, please!!
And I agree about the airhorns, they are rude. We don't want to hate your gym for using them, but that's what will happen, trust me.

No one is needs to get over the "CA" airhorn thing, it is about airhorns in general! Geez....we are not even allowed to use airhorns at our youth football games in the mornings due to neighborhood noise and that is outside!
No one is blaming CA, just the horns themselves, no matter where you are from, PLEASE DON'T BLOW! Its scares the pants off my 2 year old son
Look what NCA is doing this weekend. So leave the airhorns at home.....hooray!
NOISEMAKERS - NO ARTIFICIAL NOISEMAKERS. Air horns, Pepsi cans stuffed with pinto beans, and any other artificial noisemakers will not be allowed.
The reason we created this rule is to - Create a tolerable atmosphere for young children, the elderly and anyone with a borderline hearing disability (or, a disability that may potentially be caused by the beans in the can). - LET THE JUDGES ENJOY THE MUSIC you worked so hard to create. Remember that music is included in your choreography score. If the judges can't hear your music, you will not be rewarded for it.
