Received this today. What do you all think?? Sounds like an interesting concept to me. Might increase the skill level for those teams who wouldn't otherwise be able to participate on the "worlds" stage.
Announcing a New Worlds Caliber Championship Coming in 2009
THE INTERNATIONAL ALL LEVELS CHAMPIONSHIPSM
Overwhelming interest in a Worlds caliber championship for All Levels has prompted a coalition of industry leading All Star competition providers to respond with The International All Levels ChampionshipSM.
Scheduled for spring 2009, highlights that make this inaugural championship unique include:
Routines will be judged simultaneously via broadcast as teams compete from separate venues, one in Atlanta and one on the West Coast
Top teams will qualify at select championships run throughout the country by the industrys most prestigious event producers, including:ACA, American Championships, American Cheer Power, Athletic Championships, NCA, Spirit Sports, UCA, USA, WSF, and other event producers still to be announced
Competitions for both Large and Small gyms will run separately, but simultaneously
Teams of All Levels from the U.S. and around the world will vie for the Championship Title in their respective divisions
The event will serve as a finale to the competition season and an ideal complement to the USASF Cheerleading Worlds Championship
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the proposed USASF Scholarship Fund to benefit All-Star Cheer Athletes
Fundamentally, this championship is designed to be the ultimate competition opportunity for teams of all levels and gyms of all sizes. It truly distinguishes itself through the collective effort of participating Companies, as well as their genuine desire to give something back to the cheerleading industry via the scholarship program, said Regina Symons, President of American Cheer Power.
James Speed of Spirit Sports adds, We welcome and look forward to other leading event producers joining us, the Varsity Brands, in this venture soon.
I think It would intresting to have an all level worlds competition. sp then you will be able to see all level 3 team with handsring tuck and all level 4 with standing tuck and level 5 with standing fulls wow.... can you say dedication from every team memeber.cant wait for this to happen
If this is true than I see many teams across the country dropping down levels.
We are already seeing this. Chain reaction from level 5's dropping to 4, then 4's dropping to 3, etc... This will give gyms more incentive to step it up and field true level teams, I'm excited about it.
I think I like the idea, but I could be wrong. ;) It sounds pretty cool to me, but there's so much opposition to it on ProX that it makes me wonder what I'm not getting.
I think it would be great to finally have one true champion for each level. Isn't that what many say this activity needs?
If this thing does come to fruition, what would happen to the current USASF Worlds?
Is attending a Varsity competition the only way to qualify?
And the whole competiting on opposite coasts simultaneously seems a little wacky to me. Does this mean you wouldn't be able to watch your competition? I guess this would ease the space needed to hold a competition like this. Do you get to choose which coast you go to or is it decided upon where you qualified?
***Disclaimer***I could be Wrong!!!!***Personal Opinion Follows***Warning***
In my personal opinion, this sounds like a major swipe at Final Destination and the NLCC by Varsity. Final Destination has done a great job (not perfect) in reaching out to teams of all levels for an end of the year type championship. There is still a qualifying process one must go through to get there. Gyms who like to bring as many teams as possible, or those who don't have Level 5 teams have found this competition a reasonable alternative to a "World's" Championship. it is growing on the East Coast. Final Destination has been mocked on ProX as the "other World's, World's rip off, World's lite" etc by quite a few. IMHO it is problem some of the same people who are ripping the idea of Varisty having a World's for all levels, as for them the only thing they want to see are the top 10 level 5 teams in the country. Nothing else really matters to them for this type of competition.
Varsity's perceived weakness has been that many of their competitions do not really bring in the smaller gyms/programs. Reasons have been thrown about from the mandated you must be a member of USASF, competition cost, distance to travel to event, no reasonable chance of winning or doing well when your are being compared to the top gyms in the country, etc. I do not think any gym should simply go for the "easy win" but when you know you are about to be crushed and the reputation of the team you are competing against has already given them first place in many people's eyes...why do you want to demoralize your kids like that..over and over again? (This is what a coach told me from another team at a recent comeptetion) A second perceived reason is that a lot of East Coast teams (for whatever reason again) shun Varsity competitions. I am not just talking about the major programs here.
Varsity's purchase of ACP as well as this new announcement shows me that they are now aggressively going after those smaller gyms and trying to develop a format that you must, one way or the other go to Varsity events. You can now save money on competition costs by not traveling but so far out of your location...with this telecast judging. ACP was one of the main cheerleading companies in the NLCC and Final Destination loop. Their small gym championship was attractive to many gyms like the one I used to work at in Virginia with 50 kids on a very good day. That gym would rather close than go to a Varsity event...at least that is what the owner had told me.
***I do not work for Final Destination or the NLCC. Our gym has never been to Final Destination and in the past we have attended a Varsity event. I am just a coach speaking my opinion on the subject***
