NCE had a great showing today. Power looked great as always. Other teams I thought looked sharp, clean, and entertaining were UCF, Cheer Xplosion, and Fusion, whose gym had a great showing today as well. Also I really enjoyed the Sr Coed Lev 4 team from Riptide.
An additional note, and I don't mean to sound negative but.. I was a little discouraged by the quality of some of the teams in particular divisions. Honestly I wonder what the coaches are thinking sometimes. Do they look to see what it takes to compete in a particular division? Or do they figure if they have a few girls who have a particular skill, throw them in the higher division. I just didn't get some of the teams I saw today, I felt bad for them. Put them in their appropriate level so they can have a chance. Sorry, I'll stop now.
I enjoyed the competition. The awards in the morning took a while, I thought they could have moved everyone on the stage a little faster. Afternoon awards went quickly. It was a fun day.
So much fun tp see the turn out at the Nor Cal Championships from UCA. There was a ton of positive energy from the cheerleaders to the coach to the family support and even the UCA staff behind the stage and in front of the stage.
Many clubs stood out in my mind yesterday. Those were POWER, NCE, Cheer Explosion, University Cheer Force, Fusion, Rebels Elite, and Legends. The routines that were performed by these clubs had energy, complexity, and demonstrated excellent skill and performance sportsmanship. These clubs were constant acrossed their entire gym from the tinys, if they had one, to the senior 5 teams, if they had one.
I do have to say thorough there are some gyms that if their cheerleaders stay in their program for a few more season they will certainly be top 3 contenders as will. Riptide, CheerXperience, Cheer with a Twist, Airborne, Station 1 and Swat are moving right along and with more time with be great next season.
Way to go! It was a great competition the entire day. It was nice to see so many teams in the younger ages. These teams are the future of cheerleading for years to come.
Why did they put everyone on the stage if they didn't recognize the whole team?
Sorry, I should have quoted it, this is the question I don't understand. Speaking of awards I know it's nice to acknowledge everyone but when there are 10 teams I don't know if it's a good feeling to get 10th place, you know? I always think it's better to award the top five maybe, and leave it at that. That way the bottom five are lumped together. Just my opinion. I agree about the energy and I loved the UCA staff. It was a very nicely run competition!
How about Station 1 Athletic All Stars, does anyone know where they are from? It's nice to see different gyms at this competition.
Station 1 I remember from last season and i remember that noone knew much about them and thought they wouldnt be too much competition but they have a really strong level 4 team with all returning members and strong full squad tumbling. i heard they were shooting for level 5 this season but chose to stay level 4 another year. thats just what i heard.......
The posts about this particular gym were either about a different gym or they were fabricated. Although this gym gave it a good effort, they were clearly in the wrong levels, sorry. Hope they adjust before Nationals.

I totally agree! It took a long time to load all those teams onto the stage and then they didn't even let the first place team get up to take a photo with the banner! Everyone regardless of place got the same generic medal in the warm up room. Even a ribbon or something individual for even the top three teams in their division.
Otherwsie, it was a fairly well run competition, they moved along quickly which was nice. One major problem I encountered was when we got there early ( when the doors opened) we had a large choise of seats. There were already 75ish peolple sitting in the seats on the floor on either side of the judging tables. I asked three different UCA staff if those were seats for the teams performing and was told all three times that no, it was general seating open to everyone as they were allowing team supporteers to either come to the front or sides of the stage while their teams were performing. About 2 1/2 hours into the comp, they announce that everyone sitting in those seats were going to have to find other seats! Do you think there were ANY seats available at that point, NO! I found that bothersome as I had arrivfed VERY early and could have had my choice of seats and then are forced 2+ hours in that we had to move
I only have two complaints about this comp: 1: Ran out of programs right away and was told to look at the schedules they have posted. I want the program in my hand so when they're announcing the placements, I can keep track. And I like knowing how many teams are going before our team performs. 2: The teams didn't get pictures when they won 1st. My favorite moment was when the announcer announced to refrain from using AIRHORNS!!!!!!!!! Thank you!! My two-year-old always gets scared.

I know exactly what you mean. As I sat in the stands and they made that announcement later that morning I thought the same thing, where are these groups of people going to sit now that it's too late to find anything? I didn't have a schedule but fortunately I printed one out before I left home. From now on I always do that just because you can't always depend on the competitions supplying one. And I also agree it would have been nice if they had done more for the first place winners, especially a team that took first out of 10! Just handing them the trophy and banner just didn't seem like enough. Maybe they do that for their Nationals, this was just a Northern CA championship. But those were my only complaints about the competition. I felt the judging was fair and overall it was enjoyable, I hope we go again next year.

I had a chance to talk to many of the girls on their senior 4 team. They were all so very sweet with just a great positive outlook about their teammates. They wanted the challenge to reach for that next level. The girls all understood where they stood and the levels they were in. They also had some major set backs this season. It really didn't matter to them. They were on a mini vacation in Sacramento and looking forward to an even better vacation in Florida. They had a chance to break away from reality for a weekend and they were in enjoying the experience. Good times with their friends and family, that is the most inportant in the end.
I guess I just don't get that, maybe our sport is different from others. I would expect that "it really doesn't matter to them" attitude maybe from youth or rec, but I always though you sign up for competitive cheer to be competitive. There are cheaper ways to just have fun and bond with other girls. Anyway, I'm sure they will enjoy the rest of their season.

That was my point. If they weren't going to photograph the winners or call the whole team up, why bring all of them on the stage?
My concern is about the vendor selling the event shirts. They did NOT accept cash??? And when you paid with a credit card they didn't have a machine so you had to give them all your information on a sheet of paper (including the security code). Don't know about you guys, but that didn't leave a secure feeling to me. I'll be watching my account for awhile.
Yes!! That has me worried too. They didn't accept cash??? Very very strange. I wonder how secure those pieces of paper are with our security codes on them, what do they do with them once the information has been recorded? I think I will be calling in about a week to get an answer to that question.
