If you ever decided to open a gym in Tracy, or Livermore I'd come.. hint hint :)
Yeah me too!which is why I asked. No harm. It was a parent of yours that said she heard it.I was hoping to be able to have her cheer in Tracy where we live. Please open a gym in Tracy
I think everyone from Tracy through Danville were excited about it! Sure wish it were true. Glad to hear Power is just as strong as ever, which is evident by the talent we see them put on the floor.
I am hoping to stop by this competition and finally get to enjoy a competition without having to coach at one! GOOD LUCK to everyone competing, I am really excited to see all of my favorite teams at one place! I cant wait to see the pyramids junior gold team in their debut of level 3!! I loved their routine at level 2, so you go girls!!!
First of all let me start by saying that this is incorrect. This rumor was started by a former POWER parent that was not allowed to come back to POWER this season for various reasons.I could have had this post deleted, but thought it best to address the situation head on to avoid being questioned about it further.
POWER closing Modesto and moving to TRACY ...FALSE
POWER staff not coming back next year ... FALSE
POWER numbers are down this year ...FALSE (we are one of the few major programs in California that have seen an overall increase in our numbers this past year)
Staff stretched to thin...FALSE. I actually have several staff members that want more hours than what I can give them, and I have had numerous coaches from across the country looking to make a move possibly to Northern California.
I will honestly say it amazes me that some cheerleaders and parents have nothing better to do than to rip various programs on these boards, question every move that program directors, coaches, and owners do, and negatively speak of cheerleaders and their team's performances.
My advice...Tend to your own, help them improve and do what you can for them.Let everyone else do what ever it is they do, and stay out of the drama that is not your own.
Cheers
JOHN
PS Tryouts are April 11, 2008 in Modesto and April 12, 2008 in Sacramento.Visit our website for more details next week.
Come to sonoma county! I'd join. Don't listen to the people who want your gym in Tracy, hehe ho ho.
No matter where Power would open up people would be knocking down the door. They put out great teams time and time again. A true class act program! No matter if it was San Jose, Tracy or Sonoma County all gyms would be affected by a program like that coming close to their gym.
I think one of the biggest problems I see in all star cheer, especially in Northern California is instant success. They want something because it appears to be the "best", but teams have to build their way to be successful. Nobody can ever grow because people just leave when they see something that is "better". I guess dedication and loyalty means nothing.
I agree. I think that Nor Cal has never experienced people jumping teams. It happens quite a bit all over the country. Here not as much. I think that Nor Cal is sheltered alot in the cheer world and we are just starting to experience the same type of competitiveness that has been around in the South and the east coast for many years. Because of us being new to all of this we dont know how to react when kids leave and go to other programs or when people come on here and talk poorly about our teams. Most of us would not last a week on the East Coast. Its a way of life over there.
People sometimes leave for greener pastures but they dont realize this. If Cheergyms, Power, Nor Cal or Cheer Odyssey opened a new location they would not instantaniously be successful. Part of those gyms success is that they have kids that know the style that those specific gyms look for. With a new area and new kids you will have to teach that. You also need to remember that if Susie is on the Senior 3 team at ABC allstars and only has a bhs then she would probably not be on Senior 3 at one of the big gyms. Not because Susie is not a great cheerleader but those programs set standards for each team and stick to them.
Hey- this does not need to become a pro-power thread. This cheergyms.com board and I think it is a little rude to be talking about Power opening a gym. I think John just wanted to clear the air because there was a wacked out parent that was not allowed to come back to Power and was spreading completely untrue rumors about the program. The parent comes on here so I think John just wanted to her to know that he knows. Lets just get back to comp talk. This weekend should be a good one. Good Luck to everyone.
I understand what you are saying when you refer to "instant success" and I do realize that some gyms are still in the "building years". However, you cannot blame someone for leaving a gym for their own reasons. I really dislike it when it is referred to as "gym hopping". I think one may be foolish for staying at a gym that may not have everything one is looking for. I think one would be foolish for staying and trying to make the best of a bad situation. That doesn't mean you aren't being "loyal". That word is thrown around on this board so much. Let me also add that "gym hopping" is often blammed on the child only wanting to "win". Well, I am here to tell you that the wins often come when things are well managed at the gym and on the practice mat. Compare all star cheerleading to any business and some are managed much better than others. That is why some bussiness succeed and others close their doors. Some have a lot more to offer to the consumer for the same, and many times, even less money than one was paying before. In these difficult economic times we must be a smart consumer and get the most for our money. Why wouldn't you want that to mean going to the gym that has the best coaches, best tumbling instruction and that is run professionaly, with respect and consideration to the families and athletes? So...be a smart consumer and find a gym that has the best of everything to offer your athlete. Your child deserves the best no matter what level of cheerleader they are!
My daughter is part of a program that is still going through thier building years. She sometimes looks to programs like these, and wonders what it would be like to be part of a more competitive team. Your right when you say she would have to prove her skills if she switched to one of these programs. But after doing cheer for 5 years now she wants to progress and wonders if time will run out waiting for the program she is at to get to a higher level. Sometimes at the smaller gyms the level of skill and commitment of some of the girls is not as great. Plus what is wrong with wanting to win. This is a competitive sport. Mind you she likes her current gym, and loves her team and coaches. It would probaly be a hard decision for her to make. I don't consider it gym hopping, more of a natural progression as her skill level grows and what she wants out cheer. If one of these programs where located closer yes we would probally consider it. Unfortunately when we were looking for a gym distance did play a decision in our choice.
My daughter has always wanted to join Motions, but it's just to far. I know I hear about parents driving over an hour but everyones circumstances are different and distance also played a part in our choosing a gym. Now if Cheergyms would just have a gym a little closer to the valley we would definitely be interested.
It is true that a larger organization opening a new gym somewhere does not mean instant success. We've already seen this happen and the gym closed down after a couple years. I think the key is the talent in your area or close enough to your area. I agree with the post that said that they see nothing wrong with moving to a different gym if it means advancing your child's skills (if that is their goal). If you can only go so far at a gym, I think even the gym itself if they really care about you would encourage you to go where you can be on a higher level team, if they know they couldn't offer it there.
To get back on topic, I'm excited to see all the gyms perform tomorrow. Good luck to everyone, and most importantly, have fun!!!
I think it is very fair to say that a successful program does not mean that it will succede whereever you put it. If that was the case all of the Cheergyms gyms would of stayed open, but the majority of them have closed. it is not because they are not successful, but you have to have the marketplace.
How is everyone measuring success on this board? Is it all about the win? Is it all about getting your cheerleader to level 5? Is it the number of kids that walk through the doors each night? What is success to everyone?
I know that this is way off topic and if this topic needs to be moved to another thread please do so.
