How about this one. So...Royals Sr coed 4 definately had a great performance. But since this is a JAMZ topic, here it goes. If you know the rules in cheerleading, double downs from a one legged stunt is illegal, a 10 point deduction for the JAMZ guideline. So how is it with that legiality (in which it was the front and center flyer) did they win with no deductions? One of their best performances, yet, an illegal stunt? HELLO....rules JUDGE....Wakey Wakey...center flyer did a double from her stunt on center, and no judge caught it! Other than that....I agree with everything that has been mentioned. Break up the cheer and dance, and definately have some different awards sessions so we are not sitting in the parking lot at Midnight trying to go home because awards ended at 11:45pm. Sorry had to vent!
I totally caught that too! I told the mom sitting next to me. To Jamz owners and staff.....defend yourselves. We want to hear what you have to say!
someone mentioned this earlier and questioned this in an earlier post. maybe someone could shed some light... but doesnt royals also have jamz staffer on their staff??
FACT: A royal coach/choreographer has been or still is affiliated with JAMZ for a few years. Whether or not she did work this summer or will be working at the nationals - youth or all stars, she has established a relationship.
There are other gyms in attendance that have hire JAMZ staff members - CO and SWAT. So, I think if the judges are influenced by a staffing affiliation then perhaps the playing field was leveled to some degree?
Now if a huge deduction was missed and a team was awarded a first place and the points received earned them the extreme money award. Then shame on the host of this competition. It may be ok for something to miss if their is just a trophy but when there is a $$$ there is no excuse for mistakes.
TO THOSE GYMS THAT Plan on finishing our their seasons with a JAMZ Nationals, you may want to reconsider. There are so many national competitions that do have fair judges and keep things on the up and up.
So glad my gym has seen the light. We haven't attended a JAMZ competition this season and probably won't until some of this issues are resolved.

my gym too has seen the light and as a paying parent i would not pay to attend nationals at jamz period it just isnt right hopefully others will follow suite and do the right thing
jamz will catch on. all those teams you mentioned. co,swat royals and including starstruck, and roseville are good teams. it is not anyones intention to take away from their gyms... but enough is enough. year after year the same ole same ole....
First of all it is odd that others caught this illegal stunt but the judges didn't... what exactly are they there for?? Seems this was obvious to everyone but them. Secondly, numerous gyms hire staff from competition companies, or go to their camps, etc..., so you can't really single Jamz out. I'm not sure what the solution is. And lastly, welcome to the world of subjective judging. YOu are bound to see unfair results, but hopefully you don't more times than not.

I hear what you are saying... but hear what we are saying as well...
you don't see those same companies with their gyms at cheer competitions like you do jamz. I judged a cheer competition and they specifically asked all of us if we were affiliated with any of the gyms competing at any time. there was one lady there who was and she was switched to keep track of time only. they also had us list gyms that were our biggest competitiors or frequently competed against prior to us receiving the master schedule.
I personally coached at a gym that at this particular comp had our across town rivalry. i had to sign a sworn statement to be fair and the head judge told me both verbally and in writing that if my scores were significantly lower than the others for that team they would throw my scores out and i wouldnt be asked to judge again.
I was not allowed to have my team compete there etc

Wait, were any of the JUDGES at the JAMZ competition staff on a cheer team that competed? I thought the people who work as staff for cheer teams are only in non-judging positions, like ticket-takers and spotters. So this would be just like the example you gave above.
great point to the last poster. However, scores are not always as we perceive them. premise A: just because we think one routine may score higher doesn't mean the judges will agree. premise B: just because a team has a deduction or something illegal doesn't mean they still won't outscore another team. premise C: There is no playback call for 100% accuracy, many teams have been judged incorrectly because something was missed, i.e. a fumbled tumbling pass in the right corner; a dropped standing skill that was covered up by other skills; a double that was not accounted for. THIS IS NOT a test where everything is standardized and accounted for, its a performance, and every judge rates and scores what they perceive to have been performed. Case in point: How many teams illusion a full with a well hidden and placed 3 to lay pass in the back left corner and still receive full squad level 5 tumbling points? How many times has a highly skilled team lost to a less skilled team that just performed better? You can agree or disagree but regardless must understand that these things happen.
I'm sorry your team lost and u feel that it was unfair, but please don't go throwing daggers when you can easily contest results in a fair and honest way. Maybe you didn't win because you didn't perform as well? Or maybe the judges just didn't like your routine? maybe JUST maybe, that other team is actually better than you are in that particular division this season? Its all subjective!
My teams have placed up and down all season long, different judges like different things, hence it all makes sense. However I have never pointed fingers at another team, and instead concern myself with what I can do for my team to make sure they are more competitive and DESERVE their placing. I personally LOVE Jamz nationals, especially the venue and all the competition JAMZ attracts. were you there last year or the year before? It was intense and I LOOOOVED IT. awards was late BUT OMG was it crazy it felt like cheerleading worlds to me and for alot of people who have never had the chance to experience it. Do u remember hearing motions screaming from the top of the balcony when they got their worlds bid? I'm not from that gym, but sharing that experience is one of the best experiences i've ever witnessed. probably my favorite competition memory yet! or what about the all girl battle between california, power, american, supreme, rc, and stars? THAT WAS AMAZING!!!! i still reference those videos for choreo inspiration!
analyze what you must and if being bitter and rude is how you find your peace of mind then im glad you've found a place to do it. Once again congrats to ALL the teams who performed yesterday, Can't wait to see you all at nationals!
WAY too late on a Sunday night. I had a 2.5 hour drive after that comp. I could barely stay awake. Got home at 1am, had to get up and go to work and kids to school - yeah we are all grouchy today tonight should be fabulous.
Seperate the dance from the cheer.
Separte the mini's from the jr/sr kids and let them go home by having more awards breaks.
Start with low level and work to high level teams. I like seeing the teams do harder and harder things as the day progress's - not having the level 5 before level 3. whaaa???
Missing illegal stunts? Dang! I agree that the Royal Sr. Coed looked GREAT. And all things being equal that day - they probably had the cleanest routine of the 3 in general and good difficulty. I didn't see the illegal stunt, but I did see 3 of the boys that tumble front to back knock all the cheerleaders off the mat that were standing in back. Just like a bowling ball. I was thinking, WOW! they just knocked all those kids (and spotter staff) off the mat! That has got to be a big penalty. So if your saying that they did that and had an illegal stunt and didn't suffer any penanlties in their score sheet for it - hmmmmm. I find that interesting. But I do think they put in a really good routine yesterday.
Parking lot NIGHTMARE. Thank goodness I didn't park there- only because when I came at 1:30pm it was soo messed up that one person I talked to said it took her over an HOUR to move only a few feet!!! WHAT??!?!?! So I whipped a "U-y" and went and parked in the parking structure - that was pretty much empty. I heard it was like this last year too - can't they figure out a better system of moving people out quickly?
No HEALTHY food!!?!?!?! what the heck - This is an athletic environment. Hotdogs and nachos?!?!?! And when we went to come in with some subway sandwhiches for the kids, they didn't want to let us in !!! "No outside food" - I almost took the guys head off. So I got in with the food, but then I had to have a debate with the floor generals that wouldn't let me get on the main floor to bring the food to my kid because 1 - I didn;t have the right color wrist band and 2- No Outside Food allowed lady - But I think the look in my eyes and the color of my angry faced changed his mind and he told me to go ahead.
Lets not mention that they were selling sodas for $3 but all the vending machines around were selling them for $1.25 -

I hear what you are saying, but the differnce was once she was there they discovered that she was a fromer coach of on of the teams competing then the switch was made. it is not fair if the majority of the staffers have theor gyms competing at a venue that also employs them.
I don't thin it would be fair for a cheergyms team to compete at a cheergyms hosted event and would have the same complaint if our gym attended a competition
and to coach B.. I am not bashing royals or even the other gyms. it is unfair for this practice to continue. Cheerleading is going in a whole new direction and its time for changes. what worked in the past doesnt work now.
yes Jamz offers so much but it appears to be overshadowed with this adversity and it needs to change.
Not too long ago GSSA was being accused of the same thing and they listened and made changes. See its not just ones persons opinion it is many opionions and therefore maybe a new system needs to be put in place.
fair is fair a deduction is right that is all it is, but maybe f a team is penalized harder for throwing a skill not allowed in their level this late in the game then that would be fair.
deductions should be for skills not hit correctly, going over time, touchdowns etc... illegal stunts tumbling, age requirements etc should be grounds for disqualification or higher penalties.
so my apologoes to the royals gym if it even came off as bashing your gym. that is certainly not the case. you all did great.
i will not apologize to to jamz who seem to follow the same procal year after year. it needs to change

Very well said, we must all understand there will always be some type of connection between a judge and a gym. We just need to believe that judges are being fair.

ok... we all agree with the late competitions. but for food, dont put all the bashing on jamz. it is uc davis' vendors. and if you see a vending machine with sodas at a cheaper price, (LIGHT BULB. HELLO. CHEAPER!) buy it smart one. outside food... security from davis told me it was their venue and did not want to outside food due to their cosession stand raises money. And last but not least, Go to a football game (RAIDERS), baseball game, whatever; they sell garlic french fries, chilli dogs, beer (mmmmmmmm..) come on now. So do you expect to see salad, power bars, pomegranate juice, odwalla, and muscle tech at cheer competitions. Even pro body building competitions dont sell those health foods.
Where do you begin with Jamz!!! Let me say this first... honestly you can only fault the gym owners who keep attending these competitions as well. STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN AND STOP GIVING THEM YOUR MONEY(OUR MONEY)! If you stop attending JAMZ they will get the hint to change some of these things or will not be around too much longer.
Let's see I'll only list three: 1. Tiny and Mini teams should not be at a cheer competion until 9:45pm at anytime. As a matter of fact how about no team on a SUNDAY especially during the school year. TOTALLY RIDICULOUS...
2. They need fair judging and what I mean by that is... Please bring in outside judges with no affiliation with cheer programs. You can argue all day and night until you are blue in the face, that it seems unfair or even that it doesn't matter they judge fairly. BUT how about this, you will eliminate so much negativity about the JAMZ orginization, if JAMZ just brings in outside judges. Please dont take us paying customers as fools. As a parent it pisses me off to see the staff up on stage doing their damn dances etc with their Jamz uniform on and then spot them with a gym they coach or help. UCA is or was good for this and I can tell you that most gyms stopped attending their competitions and boy has it shown in the attendance of their comps. Stand up for what you believe in, GYM OWNERS STOP GOING TO THEIR DANG COMPETITIONS!
3. This is for Jamz and other cheer comp orginizations. Please keep High school and youth leagues out of all star competitions. and what i mean by that is... have those on different days that way you can start all star early morning and be done at a sensible time.
ATTENTION PARENTS WHO ARE TIRED OF THE JAMZ BS EACH YEAR!!!
When you enroll your children for the next season ask them if they are attending Jamz competitions and stand up for your children and let the gym owners know you are sick of wasting your money. Our children deserve to be treated like the athletes they are. Which means fair and equal judging of their talents. Respect that they are children and that school and their health is important- meaning it is unhelathy and JAMZ shows a disrepect and inconsideration that school is important.
Let me say this, I am a paying customer and I spend my money on things that I like. Things that my children like. Things that give us pleasure etc... you get what I mean. If I don't like something, I dont pay for it.
When I joined our gym, I asked them if they attended JAMZ comeptitions and they said no! I wouldn't waste my money or my time even enrolling in a program that frequents Jamz. Its my right as a paying cutomer. Believe me, if we parents take a stand about Jamz, the gym owners will too. PROTECT OUR CHILDREN AND THE SPORT THEY LOVE If you don't stand for something you stand for nothing!
DONT BE MAD AT JAMZ WHEN YOU LOSE. YOU ONLY MAKE YOURSELVES LOOK VULNARABLE. YES, THEY NEED SOME THINGS CHANGED, BUT THATS HOW EVERYONE LEARNS; BY THEIR OWN AND OTHERS MISTAKES. NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO IN THE CHEER WORLD, NO COMPANY AND GYMS LIKE JAMZ, NCA, USA, GSSA, ETC.; SWAT, CHEERGYMS, CHEER ODYSSEY, STARSTRUCK, CA, ETC. IS NOT PERFECT. NAME JUST ONE TEAM IN THE WHOLE CHEER WORLD THAT HAS A DEFINITE PERFECT SCORE AND HAS TAKEN FIRST PLACE AT EVERY COMP. NONE!!!!!! EVERYTEAM HAS ITS UPS AND DOWNS!

How do you explain them running out of food and then not allowing food in? It was late and the kids needed to eat (I don't care what the food was healthy or not). Then to make is worse, they were not letting the parents bring the food down to their kids (some of them 5-6 years old).
A couple years ago... we were at Jamz Nationals and we felt as though our teams got ripped off. First we wrote to jamz both as a gym and parents. We got ther response we thought we would. So then we decided to send off the dvd to several different areas to have them judge them by video and each of them did not put the top 3 gyms in the top 3. They did however put our gym in the top 3. We did not say what gym we represented. Not one placed us as 1st however top 3! Now remembering that watching by video is different. They were only allowed to watch it once and judge usong Jamz score sheet. They had to leave comments as well.
After receiving all the results, we sent them all thank you notes and told them which gym we were and they were all shocked and in disbleif of the results. ALL OF THEM!
So at our gym we had a couple of PI and they did some investigating! Found out some interesting things. One the announcer that year, was the husband of the gym owner that placed first.
That a majority of the teams that placed in the top 3 had JAMZ staffers on their staff at their gym.
We did consider sending our story to dateline or 20/20 for a full investigation on the Jamz cooperation as a whole, but at the time didn't want to feed into all the negativity competitive cheer was getting.
I do suggest that as gym owners that you call around to these gyms that you know have no association with JAMZ and get one of these well known investigative teams to investigate. You all have spent so much money and time and it needs to stop. Competitive cheerleading will never get to the next level if we all continue to close a blind eye to these things.
Like i said before.... I asked gyms point blank when we were looking if they did JAMZ comps. and ifthey said yes, I expressed my concern and dislike for Jamz and I finally found a gym who doesnt attend.
you leave plenty of competion wondering what the judges were thinking, its not just jamz. But the difference is you know that the judges are not owners, staffers at the gyms. So you blow off some steam and move on. BUT YOU/WE CAN NOT KEEP OUR MOUTH SHUT ANY LONGER AND KEEP SUBJECTING OUR CHILDREN TO THE UNFAIR JUDGING AT JAMZ. STOP GIVING THEM YOUR MONEY. OUR MONEY! Times are hard an we are all making sacrafices and budgeting to keep our children in competitive cheer, don't let us parents down. STAND UP
Your post is ridiculous.
Get a grip. All I can do is but laugh.
Do you honestly think its a conspiracy? The cheer world is not that big, where do you think the staff of Jamz came from? Hmm... from other cheer organizations, I would think. Do you possibly think maybe they cheered or had to have some sort of experience before being accepted as a Jamz staff member?
Of course there is going to be some affiliation.
Their scoring has gotten tremendously better, if you haven't noticed the switch off between judges, their recapping with the computers in front of them now?
Same with any organization, USA, UCA, GSSA, etc.
You honestly think the jamz staff are the ones judging? The guys on the floor dancing and entertaining you? Your announcer? The gals walking around selling you tickets? Which of these people have the pull to influence the JUDGES? I would like to know.
You hired a private investigator? Pahhhlease.
Comments like yours is what gave competitive cheerleading the 2 second bad rep.
We've gone to other Jamz comps this year. They have all ran pretty smooth. We actually have enjoyed them. The kids love them and so do the parents. They offered quite a bit of them for our area this year.
What it looks like to me is some gyms procrasitnated and waited to attend the last one to make bid to nationals. And you know what ... they accomadated. Don't get mad at Jamz for your gym attending this last competition. Don't get mad at Jamz for UCDavis running out of food, they got the schedule and they should have known to provide for such a large crowd. I'm sure you're gym like many others gives each parent an itinerary to please pack healthy snack for your children. You knew exactly how long you were going to be there. And you are mad at Jamz?
You sure aren't mad enough to not go to Vegas in March now are you?
Tell you what, If you are so upset with Jamz, scrap the Vegas nationals from your list. Stick to your beliefs! Stick to your guns! Craptalkers UNITE!
Can't do that now can you, because you like it soooooooo much.
That's right, crap talking really doesn't look good, especially when we all know you are just dying for that last Jamz comp of the year, You are dying to get that jacket and banner to hang in your gym.
You had me at minis at awards at 9:45 PM. Egads. I suppose it was the UC Davis arena that showed poor judgement there? I've never attended a Jamz competition, but I am sure that there is something to all sides being presented. With as much discussion as this topic has generated, it sounds like Jamz needs to study their business model if they want to remain competitive. My kids have school on Mondays and that is their priority.

I do not think that most legit programs are wasting a big travel trip on JAMZ Nationals. Thanks though.
Well to be honest not many of the larger gyms are going to Jamz anymore. So that statement is pretty true. Jamz is very political and has a funky way of judging and just how they do things. I have gone to Jamz for over 7 to 8 years with all stars, schools, and youth teams and they are NEVER consistent, never on time, always doing something random, and just not very professional. We might go to a regional, but won't waste money or time going to their nationals.
