The majority of teams that usually go to this competition are from AZ even though it has a partial paid bid and an at large bid. It is usually pretty small, but last year drew some teams from So Cal Stars Extreme and Pacific Coast I believe went. They are well run competitions, though last years comp ran late do to unexpected weather. The warm up area was out side which is usually ok in AZ but it happen to be a record setting cold day at 23 degrees last year with the wind chill. But the owner is very good about getting a range of judges that have very good experience which give great feed back on routines. She is also the USASF rep for Arizona and Nevada.
The Valley of the Sun Cheerleading Championship is currently the largest All-Star Cheerleading Competition in Arizona. It is also the only competition in AZ that offers a partial-paid bid to Worlds as well as an at large bid with an incredibly broad and experienced judging panel. **Rumor has it, someone who made the top 5 in American Cheerleaders Top 25 Most Influential People will be on the panel...along with a number of other 'ridiculously over qualified' people :) Last year, they had a great showing in the Worlds Division by gyms representing 3 states and pretty much every worlds division. Yes the competition ran late last year...which, is very unlike the VOS competitions...but a high of 33 and a low of 19 degress in Arizona is not something that happens on a regular basis...nor something that is typically planned for. But they pulled it off by moving the entire warm-up room to the front of the building in the Lobby. A tentative schedule is already posted online at www.azcheerevents.com Hope this answered any and all questions.
