I think that EVERY team was great to watch and each team was judged fairly with the exception of AP Youth 2. Those girls deserved better than what they got. Were the judges on a bathroom break during their performance? Clearly that must have been the case.

Hey it's coach Dyan!  Our girls did a great job on Sat.  We as coaches/parents are very happy with their preformance.  Please keep in mind that our sport of choice is a subjective sport.  We are back in the gym and working hard to give another amazing preformance in on Jan 27th in Stockton!!  Have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all the Cheer families out there!!

Scores are Up!

Looks like in the cheer Divisions POWER took the top score.

There were also very high scores in Dance.

Great Job!

Congrats to Pyramids Junior 4 for the 3rd highest score in the All Star cheer division (81.375). Pretty impressive to be right below Powers Senior level 5 (87) and Powers Senior level 4 (84.5). Great job ladies and Angie!!!!

Power Senior 4 scored the 2nd highest ? Way to go girls. It is hard for a level 4 team to score really high just based on the score sheets. I think you girls are just amazing. Maybe John should put you against your level 5 and give them a run for their money.

That brings up a question I've always been meaning to ask.  When you see all the scores from the various divisions, is it a fair comparison to match scores across divisions?  In other words, if you see a score of 70 in one division, let's say Senior Level 2, and then a score of 65 in a Senior Level 3 division, does it mean that tecnically the team in the Senior Level 2 division has beat the team in the Senior Level 3?  If they were to go head-to-head, the team in Senior Level 2 would have won?   Or are the scores relative to the division they are competing in?   If you're in level 3 are you expected to do level 3 skills and are you scored accordingly?  I don't know if I'm phrasing my question right.  Maybe what I'm asking is if the scoring is relative or absolute?

I think it depends on the host company.  If you see some of the score sheets for ex. level 4 cannot score higher than 90, level 3: 80 and so on.  In that case, yes a lower level team that scores higher could conceivably beat a level 5 team.

I don't think that was the case at GSSA, but don't quote me.

It's dependent on the competition.  At some competitions, the higher the levels the higher the possible score.  These competitions it would not be fair because there is no way for a level one to get as many points as a level two or above.  At other competitions, each division is able to max out their skill level for the same amount of points.

I never thought of it that way.  I always looked at it as "This competition is not giving level one a chance to score as high as level five, there's no way to compare."  But, if a level five scores low enough that it's in the level one bracket, then I guess there is a way to compare.  I love having my eyes opened to a new way of thinking...thanks Pix!

Also, remember at this competition there were two separate judging panels. So, no, you cannot compare scores and say you would have won. Also, judges score according to the division. So, if they just gave team A a score or 80, and then think the next team, team B, is better, than they will find a way to give team B an 81.  So again, you cannot compare scores from this competition and say that the level 3 team that scored a higher score than the level 5 team beat them.

Congratulations Fusion Mini 2.  Yall did awesome yesterday and are bunch of talented young ladies.

How old do you have to be to be in Mini 2?  I thought some of those girls were as tall as my 11-year-old daughter.  Majority of them looked cute to be minis, but there were some tall girls that didn't look like they should have competed in minis.  Just wonderin'.

I think of mini's as what we used to call youth,  youth is what we used to call jr. prep, but I can't remember the age requirements offhand, maybe someone will post them.  Agree that some of them sure are tall!

You need to still be 8 years of age by May 31, 2007.

My daughter was tall for her age and when she was 10 and 11 competing on a junior team we heard that all the time.  Believe it or not one time another gym contested our win because they thought are girls were older.  Yes there are alot of girls who are a lot taller these days.  Not all cheerleaders are short and petite.  Power to tall people they can cheer too!!!

I remeber one year our minis and even our tinys went undefeated all season and at one competition the hosting orginization actually came up to us and said now come on are they all really mini age.  And we chuckled and said yes.  It just happened that, that year all of our girls accept one was at the top of the age group and we had quite a few tall long legged girls.  So you can never base it on their size. On the opposite note we had a cheerleader who remained the same size basucally for about 5 years (not growing too much) on our senior squad and everyone thought she was 6-8 years old and would make nasty comments about how sill she looked with the big girls but she was 14 lol

cheerleaders come in all shapes and sizes and you just never know. I don't think most gyms would jeoperdize being caught cheating. How emabarassing would that be?  I'm sure there are some out there but thats their burdern and they have to live with that.  And sooner or later you always get caught.
But i highly doubt too many people do it.

how lucky for any team who gets thise great back bases who are taller than the rest of the girls biggrin

Ok this is random but I think it Is was at Jamfest, one team they had white uniforms and the girl up front center was tall.  Boy she could jump.  The last couple of posts made me think of her.  I dunno know she just stood out in a good way.  So it's good to be tall you get noticed.

The bad part of being the tallest on your team is that your usually stuck in the back behind all the shorties ugh...
