RE: GSSA Res

My favorite performances are teh special needs and the tiny teams.  They compete with a genuine interest to have fun and I was suprised by the nice back handspring on special needs.  YOU ALL ROCK..  This takes us back to what competition is all about.  We can all learn so much from the special needs team.  HUGE COMPLIMENTS to the coaches of their special needs team.

To change the topic, I would just like to say to the kid that's the main tumbler on Motion Co-ed 4 and All American, you're awesome to watch.  You make it look so effortless and so easy.  You had me worried there for a second when you were tumbling, though.  I thought your pants was going to fall off.  Great job.

To the girls on Special Needs team, you girls are too cute.

POWER Large, you girls rock.  12 stunts.  If that's not a "WOW FACTOR," I don't know what is.

Great job UCF Junior 3, you girls looked really good.  As soon as you were done I knew that my daughter's team was in for a battle.

My favorites of the day:
1. I think it was Riptides Tiny team with the little boy with the bowl haircut.  He was the cutest thing I've seen since my own son was that age. Seeing him gave me such warm fuzzies!

2. All American Senior Coed.  I love that it wasn't a cookie-cutter routine; it's so original! And when those 12 stunts hit: wow!

3. Special Needs team - more warm fuzzies...

Unfavorites:
1. people (mostly cheerleaders, but not limited to) that got up and down, walking around and in front of others during routines.

2. No "spectator section" in the front.  Is it really so hard to ask that the first 3 rows are for viewing the current competitors?  I mean really, did the whole team from one gym have to sit in the front 6 rows the entire afternoon? Do I sound bitter? Sorry, ignore this one...

3. Airhorns! They should be illegal.

There were some organizational issues, and I wished that awards were announced in some discernible order, but overall a godd, if long, day.

To the kids:
I really enjoyed all of the performances and think all of the teams deserve a pat on the back.  You work hard and as parents, I think I can speak for most when I say that we are so very proud of you whether you came in first or fourth, whether the stunts all hit or you touched down on your pass.

I really like the All american coed team...but I was also really impressed with the Junior 5 team.....way to work it out ladies!!!!  I think in the next couple of years Pyramids will grow to have an unstoppable Junior/Senoir 5 team...when I watched Junior 5 I was thinking to myself 'they remind me of mavericks junior 5 that was untouchable a couple of years ago'.  Cant wait to see them all grow up together.  So Impressed.

On a different note.  I just loved the hip hop div.  I just love to watch Starstruck.  All their teams looked so good.  I like how this year they put a lot of dance into it along with the funk.  Great Job!!!!awwawwaww

8 pages of comments?  Oh my!

There has to be more time in the day for this board, geez!

I haven't got time to read the 8 pages, need to read them this evening.  I have skipped to then end of the pages and will begin my post.

I wanted to make a quick comment about clubs as a whole, not at the individual team level.  All the clubs are working hard no doubt about it and there are some clubs that are true stand outs (in just my book).

Pryamids and Motions:  Great job with your teams.  Love your stress on technique and precision.   Always one of the front runners at every competition.   So enjoy your coaches as they watch your performances.  You are going to have to video tape them and share on youtube.

POWER:  The name says it all.  You continue to push the envelope at every level of competiton.  Your kids are responding and you have set the tone of excellence.

Riptide:   Surprised me at this competition.  And it's only because I have never seen you before.  Not in the sense of winning every event, but the your over all compassion for the sport of cheerleading.

Starstruck:  Dancing is amazing!  Cheerleading doesn't take second to your dance program.  Just a great overall club.  You are definitely right up there with the leaders.

Athletic Perfection:  Again, another club that is consistant acrossed the board from tinys to seniors.  When other clubs see your name we know we are in for a great competition.

UCF:   Great stuff!  For a small gym, I can't say enough about you.  Love the unique themes to each of your routines.  Often times, clubs come out with every team doing the same cookie cutter routine, but your teams all look different in a fantastic way.

Fusion:  Way to go....nice showing!  You all looked amazing!  I mean it when I say all.  From your tinys to your seniors, everyone is going to have to worry about you.  Congrats!

The GSSA competition was very enjoyable to watch this season.  The cheerleading teams are working so incredibly hard and each month that goes by there will be that next club that you look and go wow where did they come from.

GREAT JOB everyone!

There are issues that really do need addressing, which come across as complaining but still need to be brought up.   This one has been driven into the ground and keeps cropping up again, probably because it's a hot issue that hopefully won't be an issue in the future (and hopefully won't be brought up repeatedly after every competition).

I really liked AA's routines, very creative.  Loved Power's Level 5 team, wow!  Great showing by Aerials, they have an excellent fan base, they were loud and really showed their support!   All in all the entire day was a lot of fun, but it was a long day that might have been shorter without all the breaks.

I thought a couple teams really stood out yesterday.

Power Senior 5- They were amazing. I have never ever seen any thing that good that was not on the computer or vidoe. That routine is just so jam packed with skills. I loved that they added another trick in to their two mans. It seemed so much faster than at Jamfest. I also loved the pyramid. Man it just did not stop. Those girls are truly amazing. How is it that you get that good.

Pyramids Junior 2- I think they are setting the bar way to high for anay other level 2 team. They are just soooo good for level 2. They sale that routine like no other. Way to really make the other level two teams to really pick it up. I mean 9 stunts at the level 2. That is amazing

They did ...sorry for the error in my reporting.  I was trying to write everything so fast and then make sense of it all after I got home.

L2- Small Junior Cheer should be:

POWER- 1 (67)

CYC- 3 (61)

Extreme Cheer- 2 (65)

Gymstars Elite- 4 (?)

Wow the scores between 1st and 2nd were close.  One thing GSSA did right was read out the scores.  I like when comps do that.

If you have been at any other comps we have attended, you would know that in our program are teams always sit together for the whole comp. If you could have pointed out an area that had appoximateley 65 open seats then they would have been in a different area!! It is to bad the only thing said about the "red" team was were they sat. Our youth level 1 has just won 1st place in 3 straight comps, competing against no less than 6 teams each time. If not for a penalty at jamfest they would have won 1st there as well. Hopefully at San Jose they will let parents and teamates cheer on the the kids in their program.

I haven't seen any comments about Power's Senior 4 team. They don't get mentioned because of their Senior 4 team, but they were the second most impressive team to me behind their 5 team. They are a TRUE and solid 4 team that nailed their routine. Great Job!!

They were great. Actually I am pretty sure that they were the second highest score of the day behind their Senior level 5. They do get over shadowed by their Senior 5 but they are so great. They stunt really well and just dont make mistakes. They are clean, clean, clean.  I love the pyramid and the dance is super fun. As far as a true level 4 team, they have girls on that team that have level 5 skills too, but they did not have them when they tried out, they have trained to get them. That is the great thing about Power and Cheergyms, they train kids so well that they get skills. They are able to get kids to the next level, so they they should not be penalize for having their athletes advancing the skills that they have.

That happened to everyone all day, the first time was 9:15 am for us. but thanks for pointing us out. It is great to get attention, negative or positive(rarely). So it is safe to say you did not see enough seats for our kids to sit together anywhere in the stands!

So now that we have all determined that GSSA took way too long with way too long breaks and silly games etc...
We also know that most of us would like an area for veiwing our teams on the floor

Most of us were not huge fans of the younger teams performing late in the evening instead of first - although they had a legitamite reason for prom night i guess. What teams had prom and do they accomodate others through out the season for that. not just gssa but other orginizations? is that a common practice?

what suggestions do gym owners, coaches &parents have to express our concerns to gssa

because i dont know if  could sit through another day like saturday it really was extremely difficult and a tad bit insulting think we would all want to endure that all day

i think someone sadid it earlier in the post competitive cheer has taken the next step, it is time for these companies to do the same and make some changes

not a huge fan right now and gssa should know that! it is the only way gssa can make changes if we speak up

I don't mind the older kids going in the morning, its just the DEAD time they have during the events. So much time wasted when the event could of ened about 4 or 5 pm, instead of closer to 8pm.  To me if your event is that big, then run it efficient.

I agree the dead time was a waste of timecry
as a parent i will politely express my concern and disappointment to the gym owner and hopefully they will handle it from their end

Totally agree! Very fun team to watch. I think that most level four teams don't get the "props" they deserve behind 5 teams. This is especially true when the level 5 team is as awesome as Powers! Awesome job Sr 4! biggrin I believe the scores were 87 for Sr5 and 85 for Sr4.
