I wasn't there to see Open Level 4 perform. I know there were three teams. Was POWER's Level 3, who competed in 4, not deserving to win that division?
I thought they were quite deserving of the win...very clean entertaining routine.
The key word there was "clean". Power Open 3 put a clean performance on the floor. It looked like the same Open 3 routine with a several girl throwing layouts instead of tucks. No 540's, no double downs, no kick fulls, no standing tucks. But sometimes that's all it takes. You wait for the other teams to penalize themselves. They didn't out skill the other teams certainly.
UCF was technically stronger- throwing level 4 skills - without a doubt. That team had 3 two-man stunts on the floor, in addition, they had 5 elites total, with only 18 girls. That's guts! They could have easily put up 3 to 4 safe stunts and kepted their elites super clean. However, when you take risk you chance a fall and that's what happened to them. UCF was the better team yesterday, if the fall didn't happen, and I won't be surprised if they don't end up the National champs by the end of the season. UCF has officially ranked themselves in the level 4 category. And I might add those girls stunting those two mans are stunting right with POWER's level 5 team. Great job UCF! (Perhaps, CHEERGYMS should call UCF up and set up their next partnership. Those girls can stunt their booties off. Just a thought)
Rebel Open 4 team had a rough day. Where did all that tumbling come from? What a difference from last season. That team certainly have grown with some great talent. The team looked a be nervous today and perhaps not everyone is comfortable with the routine yet. It's tough to see a pyramid not go up. Probably it's just a timing thing. Rebels will get there.
Maybe we come from two different schools of thought but putting stunts/pyramids or anything in your routine that is not perfected in practice is not the smartest coaching move. Why would you set yourself up failure like that? Putting up 3 to 4 safe stunts that are clean are going to score you more points than 4-5 that shake and have any chance of falling. Last time I checked, most competitions have Deductions....
Yesterday's competition was surely a very long competition considering that there were not really that many teams competing. Personally, I feel like GSSA could've moved things along and we could've all done without so much in between. However all the parents and spectators were on their best behavior and it was so nice to sit and enjoy our children and not fight over seats. People were respectful that seats were saved for the cheerleaders and we didn't have to listen to the announcer say a thousand times, no saving seats" lol.
I enjoyed all of the competitors yesterday and I think that all the teams did a fabulous job. This part of the season is always tough. Gyms start to lose children to injuries, money issues and poor attendance. So I thought each gym had a great display of talent.
My daughter cheers for UCF senior open level 4 and they were extremely proud of their showing this weekend. These groups of girls have so much fun together and display great sportsmanship. They were equally as proud of POWER and the fact that they were close to beating them. POWER has amazing talent and they have some of the best coaches in the industry. There was no doubt in any of our minds that they would be able to move up and be competitive. It made for a fun competition. And that is what its all about, these girls on this squad are working hard at improving their skill levels and they too had to make changes due to members leaving etc. So the dropped stunt did probably hurt them score wise, but our coaches have done a super job making changes. And we all know that at this level they are not playing it safe, they are pushing these girls hard. The goal is to keep pushing and make them stronger. AND they are doing that! Each competition these girls add more and more difficulty and become more and more confident of their routine.
My favorite teams were: The UCF junior team level three. I loved Pyramids level three team at this competition (great stuff). POWER level 5 omg was just amazing. What a bunch of talented girls. I'm pulling for them at worlds. I loved the cheergyms special needs team. I totally love when the one little girl jumps up and down Power minis both teams love them. I am huge fan of the little ones. Especially when they go out there like the big girls and stunt doing halves etc.. So cute
Aerials is making a name for themselves as only a second or third year gym. I think everyone needs to keep a good eye on them. I think all their teams did great this past weekend.
Great job to all the teams this weekend and a very special thank you to all the parents. We did it..... No fights in the stands
One suggestion for all the gym owners, can we write letters to thank GSSA for providing a bigger venue but please request that they move the competition along faster. It is both hard on the parents and cheerleaders.

We have a voice Atlanta Jan 2 is where you can vote on new rules for the upcoming season. They are going to cover the crossover issue. If you are a USASF member (gym, Coach or athlete) you have a vote. Let them know how you feel!!!
Yes the comp was to long and I feel that if they didn't have so many breaks that the comp could of ended 2hrs befor. I loved that Supper Man song but after yesterday I am so over it. Come on lets mix it up. I sat for over 12 hrs their and i must of heard that song the Cha Cha slid and the YMCA about 20 times.

Agree on the Cha Cha slide, time for something new!
It was nice having free admission and allowing videotaping. Overall we had a good time, but I do agree about too many breaks. Loved loved loved Power's Small Level 5 team, it was so much fun to watch, we were all in awe.

Based on this board....the cha cha slide, superman song, etc. we can all do without. But nobody has mentioned the parent competition. Do you want to see parents strutting their stuff to win a t-shirt?
Congrats to all the athletes yesterday. All teams put on a great show.
this comp was way to long! we have been talking abou tthis and think so but maybe somebody knows for sure. is there a girl on power that used to be on nor cal? we saw who we think was her when she walked onto the center front for senior 5 yesterday. she had a super good kick double, flying and tumbling. she was a really good flyer and tumbler at nor cal so we think its the same girl. anyways power all looked really good and the stunting and tumbling was the best of the day.
all american 5 was fun and looked good to but was a little messy. they will be super good in coed and i cant wait to see them later.
I think that post was referring to the parent competition they had in the morning session. Not sure if they did it again during the day since I had to leave. I personally could have done without that too. But seeing as though nobody has mentioned it, I guess people didn't mind it.

oh no we all mind believe me and yes they did some more crazy crap later with adults i think it was coaches... but in any case gssa gets a minus 10 for running a nice smooth competition as far as breaks go
Shoot, you know me, I would do it with you. But I'm not gonna be happy about it! lmao
As for my "only" negative comment, welllllllll... probably not my only negative comment but I really TRY HARD not to post negative things. Trust me, I'm human. I think them all the time! I guess I just care what you all think of me. And negative is really what I don't want.
"Perfect" would be a good thing to think about me though! hehehehehehehehe kidding.

Aww, I like the Cha Cha Slide (within reason, like once at a comp is fun).
