Posting Videos on You Tube

With JAMZ and GSSA comps coming up do you think it's ok to video tape other teams and post them on You Tube?  Just wanted everyones opinions.  I've done it in the past just because I thought everyone would enjoy seeing them.  Now I probally won't because it seems it causes alot of negativity.  Just curious do you think it's ok if they were posted, but no comments where allowed.  But then if they get posted on the message board you can still get those who can be rude.  Just curious what everyone thinks.

Technically, they are performing at a public event where recording is allowed so I don't think that you could be accused of any wrong-doing.  And we all want to see the performances whether to review (as in wow that team was awesome, I want to see it again!) or because we missed that comp.

I just know that I would feel uncomfortable posting video of any team outside of my own gym without consent.  But that's just me...  Some people get so touchy: they think that taping is done to steal ideas or whatever. Ridiculous!

The GSSA tread was closed so I will reply in this one, since it is related. Anonymous wrote:

Can Someone Video Tape?:

Power Senior 4
Pyramids Senior 4
Fusion Senior 4
Fusion Senior 5
Club Spirit Rockets Senior 5
Fusion Junior 5
And
Cheergyms Junior 5

I will be recording Motions Jr 3, Motions Coed 4, All American Coed 5 and All American Jr 5.  I may have some of the Pyramids teams as well.  Hopefully I will get it together enough to upload before we leave for Vegas!

Since both of those competitions allow videotaping (are we ever going to come up with a new word for this since most don't use tape anymore? :) ), I wouldn't have a problem with posting ALL the teams on youtube. I LOVE watching youtube videos, especially of those that I don't get to see as often.

The only times I wouldn't post are if the company taping the competition didn't allow it or if the routine was filmed at something other than a public event.

Edited: Oh! I won't be at either of these, so post away and make sure you link it on here...cuz yeah, i wanna see

At comps that I can take videos I usually just setup my tripod and let it run.  I've gotten alot of videos of different teams this way.  I just enjoy watching all the teams.  You see things you missed when you watch it the second time around.  I would never post a video of a team that did really bad, or to make a team look bad.  I can see why some of the gyms don't like too after seeing some of the comments made, they tend to get a little mean spirited at times.  I do like the idea of posting it and not allowing comments.  I would love to see a video of the All American Team's exhibition performance at GSSA.

Good point.  If a team that I videotaped had an unusually rough routine, I too wouldn't post that one.

I would love to hear from gym owners and coaches about this.
Hey all, How do you feel about your team's video being posted?

I feel mixed about this.  Of course if it is a great performance I am ok with it...lol.  Really though, I think if it is in a public venue there is nothing we can do.  Let's just hope for great videos showing up on Youtube!

I agree, if it's going to make the gym look bad (i.e., it's not their best performance) I don't think it's right to post it without their permission.  I feel like you should get their permission regardless.. I videotape teams we compete against because my daughter usually can't watch them perform because she's backstage warming up, but I have never posted their videos anywhere; I wouldn't feel right about it.

If you are performing at a competition where video is allowed, who's to say who can or cannot record whatever team... if you dont want your routine to be seen...why are you on the mat?

lol.

I like to see videos from comps that I could not attend...and dont think it should be a problem to post videos regardless of what team you are on. Its really not a big deal.
