Confusion

I think I have lost my mind or I just don't get it! The coach from our gym keeps saying that 3 of our girls can cheer on a level 5 senior team that is trying to get a bid for worlds. These girls did not turn 10 until after May 31, 2007. I thought you had to be 10 by May 31????? Then next year you have to be 11 by May 31 2008. Have I lost it or am I confussed??
Help!!!!

RE: Confussion

Taken from the USASF website rules:

The age of the competitor as of May 31, 2007 will be the age used for competition purposes throughout the 2007-2008 season for all
divisions.

The Girls Cant Compete Senior Unless They Turned 10 Before May 31st

Can these girls cheer on the team and get the bid, and then be substituted for Worlds?  Or do you have to use the same three girls?

Legally they cannot compete in the senior division at all, to get the bid or otherwise, if they are not 10 as of May 31st. Senior open, yes, but not straight senior divisions.

For the 2008/2009 season the girls need to be 11 by May 31st. Doesn't the age limit increase each year?  If it does in what year will the limit stop increasing and at what age?confused

Yes, it increases next season, and then the one after that. It stops at 12 (unless they change their minds between now and then).

Maybe your coach is confused!  Happened at our gym.  We're were all freaking out because he put junior aged athletes on a youth team at try outs.  Turned out he just screwed up on their birthdays and re-did the teams as soon as he figured it out (ahem, it was ever so gently pointed out to himbiggrin.)

I am not going to leak the name of this gym.  This gym does have kids who are 19 yr old for senior teams.  I do not know how they get away with it, but they do.

As long as you turned 19 on or after June 1st it is ok to be 19.  We have  a couple of athletes that turned 19 after the date and they are legal to compete.
