Yes, Jamz as well as USA combine them ALWAYS. How can you justify putting a team of 8 girls against a team of 27 in ANY CASE. Seriously I don't know why competitions keep doing that, but we need to find evens where they CATER to small gyms like in Texas.
I agree that combining small and large can seem kind of unfair at times. But some of the smaller gyms I've seen compete still manage to come in 1st. I admit I don't totally understand the scoring system. How does a small team compete with the scores of a larger team that has more stunts, more tumbling, and the ability to add more difficulty etc. Maybe someone knowledgeable could explain it better.

Ok what are the "small" gyms you guys keep mentioning on here. Power, Cheergyms, Cheer Odyssey, Starstruck, NCE and Airborne are NOT small gyms. Technically they are supposed to go on percentage, but the larger visuals just come across "bigger". You won't ever know the feeling unless you have been there with a team with TODAY's standards of cheerleading.
We are not talking about small as in gym. I'm referring to small team. We have all been to competitions where you see a small team consisting of 11 or 12 girls competing against a team of 20 or more if the divisions are combined. The larger team has the ability to have more stunts, more tumbling and overall added difficulty. Gym size or a particular organization has nothing to do with it. Does the scoring system hurt these small teams when the small/large division is combined.
No. Work harder and get better. If you cannot get your kids better. Prepare to lose. I think it is unfortunate that people pull the small gym and big gym in NorCAl. ALL OF THE GYMS ARE NOT THAT BIG.
because it is called a compitition and not a recital
Obvious it is an issue. USASF is going to get a wake up call in the next 2-3 years because small gyms will NOT continue to attend specific competitions. It's already happening. You may critcize as you want, but its up to each coach/owner to take their kids wherever they want. Seeing the SAME programs place high at the same comps gets old.
Boy people can really take a post and turn it around. No one was talking about small or large gyms. The question was about a small team of like 11 or 12 competing against a larger team of over 20. This has nothing to do about the size of a specific organization. I'm also so tired of hearing about California needing to get over themselves and how small all our gyms are compared to the ones in the East Coast. I'm sure they have smaller organizations there also. If your going to post a reply get your facts straight. Also remember the old saying if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

It doesn't matter. Judges look at how many stunt groups you can put up based on the amount of people you have on the team. As far as tumbling, you should have at least half of your team tumbling whatever level you are at if you are level 3 plan to have at least 50% doing back tucks if not, keep them at level 2. Thats just good coaching. I come from a small gym where teams aren't always stacked with 20 or 36 per team and we are constantly going against large gyms with full teams. Trust me it doesn't matter.

Is Cheer Odyssey going to any competitions that Power or Cheergyms are going to? It would be nice to see how they do against the powerhouses in our area (other than NCE).

Although I do know where POWER will be competing at, it is not my place to post there competition schedule. Yes I believe after seeing both the Cheergyms and POWER schedules we will see them this year.
